The lively feast continued until dawn, with several beastmen finding companions to share their lives with.

Ji Nuan, carrying her chubby cub, wobbled her way home. She kicked off her beast hide shoes, pulled over a beast hide quilt, and fell asleep.

Outside the tribe, the sky suddenly darkened. The snowflakes, which had been as delicate as leaves, now seemed bundled in thick layers, falling heavily. The patrolling beastmen on the wall could barely see far ahead.

“Chief, the snow is too heavy. We need to find shelter, or it’ll be dangerous.” The beastman beneath the leader was already struggling to move. The rising snow had buried his limbs.

Gou Dan frowned, irritated, and waved a hand. “Gou Zi, go scout for a cave. We’ll shelter there.”

“Got it!” Gou Zi ran off.

Man Li, cradled in Gou Dan’s arms, shifted restlessly. The intense snowfall chilled her. Remembering the warm brick beds from her time in the Watson Tribe, a wave of longing surged in her heart.

She tugged at Gou Dan’s beast hide. “Chief, the beastmen in the Watson Tribe sleep on heated brick beds. Even in such snowy weather, the beds stay warm and cozy.”

Gou Dan, whose face had turned pale from the cold, immediately brightened. “Really?”

Man Li smiled smugly. “Why would I lie to you? I slept on one during my time there.”

Not only Gou Dan, but even the surrounding beastmen, who had been eavesdropping with pricked ears, showed a fiery glint in their eyes. Such a good place clearly belonged to a strong tribe like theirs.

“Let’s find a cave to rest. Once the snow lessens, we’ll move on.” Gou Dan gazed into the distance with renewed intensity, driven by Man Li’s words.

“Bo Sen, what are you thinking? The cold season is so dangerous, yet he keeps sending you out again and again. Isn’t it just to get you killed? Why do you still follow his orders?”

A group of beastmen trudged through the blizzard near the Ainilu River, tightly wrapped in hides.

Had Ji Nuan seen them, she would have recognized Bo Sen and the others who had abducted her previously. However, they no longer looked as spirited as before. Their disheveled hair clung to their scalps, appearing as though it hadn’t been washed in ages.

In truth, if not for the houses built this year and the warm water available for baths, the beastmen from Watson wouldn’t be much different from Bo Sen’s group.

“My Amma and sister still live in the tribe. I can’t abandon them,” Bo Sen replied calmly, with no trace of resentment in his voice.

Na Wei clenched his fists in frustration, his friend’s unjust situation filling him with anger and helplessness. His eyes reddened slightly.

“Bo Sen! Someone has collapsed!” A commotion erupted at the back of the group, and anxious cries rang out.

Bo Sen’s expression sharpened as he hurried to the rear. The beastmen had gathered around what appeared to be a “bundle” wrapped in dry grass, pointing and muttering in curiosity. Who would venture out wrapped in dry grass in such a frigid season? Were they courting death?
