Leisurely Life in the Beast World - Chapter 198
“We’re almost there. Stay alert. Soon, we’ll split into three groups to surround the area. Don’t let any beast escape,” Xiu Yan’s cold, commanding voice rang out. The beastmen immediately heightened their vigilance.
Inside the valley, Lu Te and his followers were feasting on the carcass of a wild beast. Their faces were smeared with fresh blood, creating a revolting scene.
“Are you still thinking about going back to capture Ji Nuan?” After observing his son for several days, Lu Te finally noticed Lu Shi’s unusual behavior. His calculating and ambitious gaze constantly wandered toward the Watson Tribe’s direction.
Lu Shi didn’t deny it. Instead, he nodded without hesitation. “Yes. We can’t survive in this forest. The only way forward is to follow your original plan and seek refuge with the tribes in Nia Forest.”
Lu Te nodded in agreement. “We can go there directly. Right now, the Watson Tribe must have strengthened their defenses against you. You won’t be able to get back in.”
Lu Shi chuckled. “Then I’ll figure out a way to lure her out. Once I do…”
“I don’t think you’ll get that chance,” a cold voice interrupted from the open space. Lu Shi, Lu Te, and the other beastmen instinctively turned toward the source. A large silver wolf, with a sleek and powerful build, was approaching through the snowy terrain. Behind him, an army of beastmen emerged, sending a chill down the spines of Lu Te and his followers.
“Go, my tribe! Kill this Fallen Beast! Only then will our tribe be safe!” Xiu Yan’s voice carried through the air.
“Charge! Kill them all!”
The beastmen surged forward, their fervor unmatched. Without waiting for further instructions from their leaders, they attacked. The vast difference in numbers was evident. Within moments, the battlefield was strewn with broken limbs and bloodied remains.
Lu Te lay on the ground, a gaping wound in his abdomen oozing blood. His weak and lifeless form was a far cry from the beastman who had been envisioning a bright future just moments ago.
Meanwhile, Xiu Yan and Lu Shi were locked in a fierce battle. Their evenly matched strength created a back-and-forth clash, where Xiu Yan’s powerful strike was immediately countered by a well-aimed kick from Lu Shi.
Elsewhere, Ya Li, in his small snake form, coiled himself on Mo Qi’s tiger back, trembling in the freezing cold. His inner complaints bubbled up like little sparks. Why did I listen to Bei Ni’s advice and come out here? Winter is for hibernation, not wandering through snowfields!
His stiff snake tail, completely ineffective in this state, only made his helplessness worse. Frustrated, Ya Li glanced disdainfully at the large tiger beneath him. Mo Qi’s yellow-and-black striped fur was similar to Lu Shi’s, but unlike the cunning tiger, Mo Qi was chuckling foolishly at the sight of his father and brother being beaten.
“Mo Qi, why doesn’t your father acknowledge you?” Amidst the life-or-death struggle of the battle, this patch of relative safety became a haven for gossip.
Mo Qi tilted his head, thinking for a moment before replying. “Mother said it’s because Lu Te looked down on her for being a servant beast. That’s why he doesn’t like me either.”
Despite his words, there wasn’t a trace of sadness on Mo Qi’s simple, honest face. He spoke as if recounting someone else’s story.
Ya Li, now in the form of a small black snake, lightly tapped Mo Qi’s tiger head with his tail. “Don’t worry. I’ll look out for you from now on.”
Mo Qi turned his head to look deeply at Ya Li. Then, without a word, he lowered his head.
You can’t even take care of yourself right now, so how are you going to protect me? Mo Qi thought silently. When did Ya Li start boasting like this?
Seeing Mo Qi lower his head in apparent emotion, Ya Li felt immensely pleased. See? In the hearts of our tribe members, my status is still important.
