Leisurely Life in the Beast World - Chapter 197
“Today, everyone has gathered here. I believe you all know the purpose of this mission.” Ge Xing, the chief, stood at the front of the crowd and spoke loudly. “But I will say it once more. We are going out to kill the Fallen Beast Lu Shi and his accomplices, which include Lu Te, the chief of the Tumang Tribe, and some of his beastmen. If anyone is unwilling to participate, you may leave now. No one will force you.”
As his voice echoed, Ge Xing stood silently, observing the dense crowd of beastmen gathered on the open ground.
“No one from our tribe will leave. When do we set out?” Ya Li, from the Tumang Tribe, stepped forward confidently. His slanted, sharp eyes gleamed with determination.
Pei De, the leader of the Liangshan Tribe, followed by declaring loudly, “The Liangshan Tribe is all in.”
Sa Ka’er added firmly, “The Green Mountain Tribe will send all our beastmen too.”
The heavy gates groaned as they lowered, accompanied by creaks and groans, until they finally thudded onto the ground. The tribe members left behind inside the gates watched the departing beastmen with worried hearts.
Yet, they all knew that the existence of a Fallen Beast posed a severe threat to the safety of their females and cubs. It could not be ignored.
Standing atop the city wall, Ge Xing watched the departing group fade into the distance and murmured, “Xiu Yan, you must kill this Fallen Beast Lu Shi!”
“Ah Nuan, are you home?” A soft, delicate voice called from outside. Ji Nuan set down the beast hide she was working on and stood to open the door. Standing outside was Qi Mo, the young female who had joined the tribe a few days ago.
Ji Nuan had a fondness for this adorable young female. “What brings you here today, Qi Qi?”
Qi Mo fiddled with her fingers, looking slightly embarrassed. “I want Tuan Tuan to be my mate, but I don’t know if he would agree. I’m afraid to tell him—I don’t want him to ignore me afterward.”
Her small, rosy lips pouted high, and her flushed cheeks revealed her shyness.
Ji Nuan’s eyes lit up. “You’ve taken a liking to one of the males in the tribe?” She considered this good news. Adding another bonded pair to the tribe was a blessing no one would oppose.
Patting her chest confidently, Ji Nuan promised, “Tell me who Tuan Tuan is, and I’ll talk to him for you. He won’t dare say no.”
Qi Mo’s small eyes sparkled with excitement as she hugged Ji Nuan’s arm. “It’s the little furball, Fu Yi! He saved me and brought me back here. I like him and want him as my mate!”
Ji Nuan froze, her expression stiffening. Her thoughts immediately spiraled as if the song The Slap Comes Too Quickly, Like a Tornado were playing on loop in her head.
Although Fu Yi had just reached adulthood and was nearly chosen as Man Li’s mate, his popularity in the tribe was undeniable. He was easily one of the top three most sought-after males. Many young females wanted him as their mate, but he had yet to bond with anyone. His reputation as a hard-to-win mate was well known.
Ji Nuan realized with dismay that she had eagerly dug herself a deep pit and jumped in joyfully.
“Well, haha, I’ll ask him for you when he gets back!” Whether or not it would work out would depend on fate.
“By the way, Qi Qi, do you have a mate already?” Ji Nuan suddenly thought of something and quickly stopped Qi Mo as she was about to leave.
Qi Mo’s face reddened slightly. “No, I’ve only ever wanted one mate, but my father keeps choosing males who look like the Ainilu Mountains, and I don’t like them.”
Ji Nuan chuckled. “Good, then. I’ll help you ask him when the time comes.”
Pleased with Ji Nuan’s response, Qi Mo left happily and returned to her house.
