Leisurely Life in the Beast World - Chapter 192
Sa Duo’er, her face ashen, was placed weakly onto the kang bed. Her breathing was shallow, and a trace of darkened blood lingered at the corner of her mouth.
Looking at the once arrogant and manipulative female now lying on the brink of death, Ji Nuan felt a complex mix of emotions.
“Sister, I’ve never encountered something like this before. It doesn’t seem like she ate anything poisonous. What do you think?” Bei Ni, the shaman, asked, frowning deeply with evident worry.
The Green Mountain shaman standing nearby nodded gravely. “I’ve never seen anything like it either.”
Without responding to the two, the shaman, supported by Ji Nuan, moved closer to Sa Duo’er and began a meticulous examination.
Lu Shi stood nearby, his eyes bloodshot, looking utterly distraught. When Ji Nuan glanced his way, he forced a stiff smile, his lips trembling with unshed tears, trying to appear genuine.
Before Ji Nuan could react, a broad wall of muscle blocked her view of Lu Shi. Xiu Yan’s deep wolf eyes glared dangerously at the embarrassed Lu Shi. His cool voice was laced with icy disdain. “Take care of your own female. Stop smiling at others’ females.”
Ji Nuan secretly rolled her eyes. How had she not noticed before that this silver wolf had such a jealous streak?
(Probably because he dealt with all your admirers in the shadows.)
At that moment, the shaman completed her examination. Ji Nuan stepped forward to help her sit on the kang bed. “How is she, grandmother? Is there any hope?”
The shaman’s face was heavy with worry. Her dark, sunken eyes scanned the room, taking note of the chiefs present before she finally spoke. “Sa Duo’er has ingested the blood of a Fallen Beast…”
As Ji Nuan had feared, the mention of a Fallen Beast sent shockwaves through the room. The gathered beastmen turned pale.
“I once saw a beast die horribly after drinking a Fallen Beast’s blood. Their entire body turned a dark blue-black,” the shaman said grimly.
Sa Ka’er stepped forward, gently patting his child’s hair, before looking at the shaman with desperate eyes. “Is there any way for someone who drank Fallen Beast blood to survive?”
The shaman first shook her head solemnly, then spoke with deliberation. “To save Sa Duo’er, she must drink the blood of a Fallen Beast again to neutralize the poison.”
Sa Miu’er looked devastated. “But we don’t even know where this Fallen Beast is now! Poor Duo’er. If we can’t find this creature, my sister…”
Sa Ka’er’s eyes reddened as he stared at Sa Duo’er’s faint form. “How could a Fallen Beast appear in the Watson Tribe and harm Duo’er?!”
His words carried a heavy note of complaint and dissatisfaction, with a faint edge of blame directed at the Watson Tribe.
Sa Ka’er’s accusation made Ji Nuan frown. She stepped forward, her voice sharp and mocking. “Before the Green Mountain Tribe came here, we never had Fallen Beasts harming our females or beastmen. Who’s to say this Fallen Beast isn’t from your tribe?”
Her words made Lu Shi, who was crouched beside Sa Duo’er, freeze momentarily.
Sa Ka’er’s face turned red with embarrassment. Being chastised by someone so much younger, especially in front of so many beastmen, made him feel as if his face was on fire.
At that moment, Lu Shi wiped his tears and stood up. Taking a step forward, he grabbed Sa Ka’er’s arm. “Father, actually… while I was out hunting, I discovered… I discovered…”
