Leisurely Life in the Beast World - Chapter 187
The forest bear hesitated as it paced back and forth in the snow, casting wary glances at Qi Mo, the noisy creature that had unsettled its ears. It seemed to be debating whether to eat this source of the unpleasant sound.
The fur on Fu Yi’s small body smoothed down as the forest bear faltered. Despite the pain in his hind leg, he mustered his strength to release a faint but intense pressure from within.
The overwhelming aura of a top predator washed over the poor forest bear in an instant.
The massive creature, its green eyes glowing with hunger, let its small round ears droop flat against its head. Its hefty rear end shrank timidly, and with a loud whimper, it tucked its tail and fled.
As it ran, pitiful howls echoed in the air, leaving the two beasts under the tree stunned for a long time.
It had been a while since anyone had seen such a cowardly forest bear. Perhaps it was because this one was too young?
Fu Yi leapt down into the snow, transforming into his beastman form. “Why are you, a young female cub, wandering out here alone? Come with me up the tree quickly; it’s dangerous to stay on the ground.”
Before Qi Mo could recover from the shock of seeing the little furball turn into a beastman, his strong arms had already wrapped around her. With some effort, he climbed a nearby tree, carrying her with him.
As she sat on the branch, she looked at the pale-faced, panting beastman beside her. Tears welled up in Qi Mo’s eyes, glittering uncontrollably. “I’m sorry! Was I too heavy? I’ll eat less from now on! Hiccup~”
Fu Yi, silently enduring the pain of his injury, raised his large hand to wipe away the young female’s tears and snot. “Don’t cry. I was already hurt before this, not because you’re too heavy.”
His clear and bright eyes revealed his sincerity.
Qi Mo nodded her small head, her tear-streaked face breaking into a grin. A large bubble of snot blew out from her nose as she smiled.
Her disheveled and ridiculous appearance made Fu Yi’s lips curl into a small smile. This little one was undeniably adorable.
“Which tribe are you from? The cold season is so dangerous; why are you out here alone?” Fu Yi handed her a fruit he had on hand as he spoke.
Qi Mo swallowed hard and took a bite of the withered fruit. The sweet and fragrant taste spread through her mouth, making her close her eyes in delight.
What kind of fruit is this? It’s so delicious!
“I’m from the Lumo Tribe deep in the Ainilu Mountains. This year, the wild beasts in the mountains have gone mad, attacking our tribe, so Father brought us here to hide.”
“And where are your tribe members now?” Fu Yi asked, scanning their surroundings cautiously.
Qi Mo lowered her head, looking pitiful. “Father wanted me to become mates with a beastman I don’t like, so I ran away!”
Her dejected expression made Fu Yi swallow the scolding that had been on the tip of his tongue.
“I’m being chased by a bad beastman and it’s very dangerous, so I can’t go back to my tribe for now. But if you’re willing to help me, I can take you with me!” A sly glint flashed in Fu Yi’s eyes.
Qi Mo’s eyes lit up. “Sure, sure! I’ll help you! If you hadn’t saved me earlier, I would’ve been eaten by that big furry bear!”
(That was a forest bear, thank you!)
“Tomorrow, I’ll take you near the tribe. You’ll pretend to be lost and ask for shelter from the tribe. I’ll stay in my small beast form, hiding in your beast hide, and sneak into the tribe,” Fu Yi explained.
