Leisurely Life in the Beast World - Chapter 180
Xiu Yan followed Ji Nuan as she walked away, leaving the three Green Mountain Tribe beastmen standing in place.
“That little female just now… is she the one who made the powder to cure worm disease?” The broad and muscular Lu Shi narrowed his eyes, making it difficult for anyone to discern his true intentions.
Sa Miu’er shot him a sidelong glance. “Since our Green Mountain Tribe is here to seek Watson Tribe’s protection, any schemes from you, your father, or even my father will eventually come to light. I suggest you drop whatever bad ideas you’re brewing.”
He shifted his gaze toward Sa Duo’er, her eyes still red from crying. “No one will be able to save you if trouble arises—not her, not anyone.”
Receiving her older brother’s sharp warning glance, Sa Duo’er pouted but stayed silent.
Lu Shi’s otherwise stoic face twisted into a sly grin before he quickly nodded. “Of course. I won’t bring any trouble to the Green Mountain Tribe.”
Sa Miu’er regarded him with deep suspicion for a long moment. Finally, frowning, he decided to head toward Sa Ka’er’s cave. He needed to inform his father. Something about Lu Shi gave him a strong sense of foreboding.
“Ji Nuan, are you upset?”
Xiu Yan followed Ji Nuan cautiously, his usual confident demeanor subdued. His silver hair, typically radiant, seemed to have lost its luster as he drooped his head like a scolded pup.
Ji Nuan turned back, amused, and took a step closer to grab his well-defined hand. “Do you like that Sa Duo’er?”
Xiu Yan scrunched up his handsome face and shook his head vigorously. “No. I can’t stand her.”
Not just dislike—he loathed her.
Ji Nuan’s smile grew brighter. “Then there’s nothing to worry about. You dislike her so much; why would I be upset with you? Besides, didn’t Uncle Ge Xing say before that you were too young back then to know what you were doing?”
Xiu Yan instantly seemed revitalized. He took a step forward and swept the petite Ji Nuan into his arms, striding purposefully toward their home. His usually stern face now glowed with a smile so warm it could melt the snow. “Let me carry you back. It’s too cold out here, and I can’t let you freeze.”
Ji Nuan rolled her eyes. “Now you’re carrying me? After all this time standing in the cold?”
“Ji Nuan…”
When they arrived at their courtyard, a warm, sunny male figure stood at the entrance. Upon seeing them, he froze briefly before flashing a gentle smile in greeting.
“Ji Nuan!” A cheerful voice interrupted as Tu Yaoyao peeked out from behind Ge Tai. Her round, smiling face radiated so much joy it was infectious.
Ji Nuan patted Xiu Yan’s arm, signaling him to let her down. Once on her feet, she jogged toward them. “Why are you here? Ge Tai, are you feeling better?”
Ge Tai nodded and opened his mouth to reply, but Tu Yaoyao eagerly cut him off. “Ji Nuan, we’ve come to beg for your help! You must save Ge Tai—he’s been suffering so much!”
Ge Tai blinked, his expression caught between awkwardness and disbelief. Wait, I’ve been suffering? Why am I only hearing about this now?
Seeing Ge Tai’s discomfort, Ji Nuan raised a brow, then turned to open the courtyard gate. “Come in and talk. It’s too cold to stand outside.”
She added teasingly, “You males might not feel it, but we can’t handle this weather.”
After ushering the two inside, Ji Nuan led them to sit on the warm brick bed. The cozy heat was a welcome relief, and Ji Nuan let out a satisfied sigh. The weather outside was simply too bitter.
She brought out some dried fruits, handing a portion to Tu Yaoyao and Ge Tai before piling another generous helping in front of Xiu Yan.
Xiu Yan shot her a look of approval, clearly pleased with her thoughtfulness.
