Leisurely Life in the Beast World - Chapter 179
Ji Nuan turned to see a petite, sweet-looking female with wheat-colored skin running toward them, her face alight with joy. Her golden hair flowed freely behind her, bouncing with every step. Even Ji Nuan, as a fellow female, couldn’t help but admire how pleasant she looked.
Behind Sa Duo’er trailed two tall males. One of them was Sa Miu’er, whom Ji Nuan had met before, and the other was an exceptionally strong and robust beastman who seemed faintly familiar.
Sa Duo’er ran up and tried to grab Xiu Yan’s arm, but he swiftly dodged with a look of utter disgust. Her eyes reddened instantly, and tears welled up, glistening like they were about to spill over at any moment.
The tall beastman rushed forward, pulling Sa Duo’er into his arms protectively. His fierce gaze locked onto Xiu Yan, full of hostility. “How dare you make Duo’er cry!”
He looked ready to start a fight at any moment.
Xiu Yan’s demeanor turned icy. His sharp wolf eyes narrowed dangerously, and his presence became even more overpowering. His lips curled into a mocking smile. “Keep your female in check. Next time she touches me, I’ll make sure she loses that part.”
Xiu Yan’s fiery temper was as unapologetic as ever, his response even more domineering than the other’s.
Sa Duo’er’s tears spilled over as she sobbed, “Xiu Yan, didn’t you promise when we were little that you’d become my mate? Why are you treating me like this now?”
Sa Miu’er sighed heavily. As someone aware of his father’s past schemes against the Watson Tribe, he knew the Green Mountain Tribe would never regain the same status it once held here. Keeping a low profile was their best option.
“Duo’er, we’ve already explained Xiu Yan’s situation to you. Stop bringing this up,” Sa Miu’er said with a firm tone. As a disciple of his shaman, his words carried weight. Sa Duo’er reluctantly buried her face in her mate’s chest, whimpering softly.
Sa Miu’er turned to Ji Nuan with a polite smile. “Hello, Ji Nuan. I heard you’ll officially succeed as the shaman of Watson after the cold season. Congratulations.”
Ji Nuan gently pulled Xiu Yan behind her, shielding him as she responded with a light smile. “Thank you.”
Her tone was polite but distant. The Green Mountain Tribe’s history of conspiring with the Tumang Tribe had left her with little goodwill toward them.
Sa Miu’er seemed to understand, nodding briefly before motioning for Sa Duo’er to leave with him.
However, before they could leave, Sa Duo’er turned back, her tear-streaked face now full of innocence. “Big Sister, who are you? Why does Xiu Yan let you touch him but not me?”
Ji Nuan stiffened. big sister?
Her eyes narrowed as she smiled sweetly. “You’re calling me big sister? Haha… If I remember correctly, aren’t you much older than Xiu Yan? You already have a mate—and quite a few cubs too. How can you call me big sister? I’m not even of age yet.”
Her words were sharp, showing no concern for sparing the Green Mountain Tribe’s pride.
Without waiting for a response, Ji Nuan turned and walked away, not sparing another glance at the trio.
Xiu Yan followed her lead, but not before giving Sa Duo’er a disdainful look. His piercing gaze then landed on Sa Miu’er. “Ji Nuan is the shaman of Watson. You’d better remember your place. Keep your ugly female in line. My warning wasn’t a joke.”
