Leisurely Life in the Beast World - Chapter 178
The tiny tiger cub, with a head no larger than a fist, nuzzled against Song Yu’s large hand before burrowing back into Ge Ye’s embrace and falling into a sweet sleep.
“When is Di Feng coming back? His own cub has been born, and yet he isn’t even here!” Ji Nuan asked curiously.
Song Yu carefully covered Ge Ye and the cub with a beast hide. “Ah he went out to hunt for some tender meat. In a little while, the little one will need to start eating minced meat. All we have in the tribe are dried and salted meat.”
Ji Nuan nodded, thinking to herself that raising this little cub wasn’t going to be easy.
“This little guy will take his father’s surname and be called Di Ling,” Ji Nuan said after a moment of thought. In her previous life, she’d had a friend who explained that Ling represented intelligence and cleverness, and its pronunciation was similar to lín, symbolizing a red thread that ties two fates together in lifelong companionship.
She hoped the name would bring the cub good fortune, that he might grow up in this world where males far outnumbered females and find a mate who loved him wholeheartedly.
“Di Ling! Di Ling! That sounds like a name for a female cub!” Ge Ye muttered, pouting.
Unexpectedly, the little cub let out two excited cries as though in approval. His chubby paws even waved in delight.
Ji Nuan raised an eyebrow, her expression smug. “See? Even the little one likes the name!”
“Fine!” Ge Ye smacked her lips and picked up the cub, rocking him gently. “Ah Ling! Ah Ling! My little cub!”
But the rocking made the little one uncomfortable, and he let out a series of grumpy cries.
Song Yu quickly took the cub from Ge Ye, carefully placing him back on the platform. His tender and loving demeanor made him seem more like the cub’s mother than Ge Ye. The combination of a rough mother and a meticulous father left Ji Nuan at a loss for words.
She promptly made her escape.
Just as she stepped outside, a familiar icy voice stopped her. “Ji Nuan.”
She looked up to see Xiu Yan standing there, his expression unpleasant.
Tilting her head, Ji Nuan asked in confusion, “What’s wrong?”
Xiu Yan’s lips moved, and his brows furrowed so tightly they could have squashed a buzzing bug. “Sa Ka’er from the Green Mountain Tribe has arrived.”
“Sa Ka’er?” Ji Nuan thought for a moment before an image of a golden-haired older beastman flashed in her mind. “You mean the beastman who conspired with the Tumang Tribe? Chief Ge Xing’s brother?”
Xiu Yan nodded. “He’s brought the beastmen from Green Mountain with him. Their tribe was attacked by feral beasts. Only about 300 warriors remain, and they’ve fled with their cubs and females. They’ve come to ask for help from our tribe.”
“That’s something Chief Ge Xing will need to decide. We shouldn’t interfere. After all, Sa Ka’er’s actions with the Tumang hurt Uncle Ge Xing the most.”
Xiu Yan’s brows remained furrowed, his lips tightening. “His cubs are here too.”
Ji Nuan thought for a moment before exclaiming, “Oh! You mean Sa Miu’er? He looks so much like Ge Tai!”
Xiu Yan nodded absentmindedly. “Not just him. The others are here too.”
Ji Nuan finally sensed something unusual about Xiu Yan’s mood. “Is something going on? If there’s something to say, just tell me, Xiu Yan.”
Xiu Yan hesitated, his eyes darting around nervously before he began, “It’s just that…”
“Xiu Yan! Xiu Yan! There you are—I’ve been looking everywhere for you!” A soft and delighted voice interrupted him from behind.
Ji Nuan saw Xiu Yan’s face darken immediately, his expression turning as cold as frost.
