Thinking of Ya Gu’s little female cub, Bei Ni sighed. “Ah Jie, Man Li still has a little female cub. Could we forgive her this time? I’ll make sure Ya Gu keeps a close eye on her so she doesn’t leave the cave again.”

Ya Gu looked at Man Li, disheveled and despised, then at the cub in his arms. The thought of his beloved daughter growing up to resemble Man Li filled him with dread. Clutching the little cub tightly, he declared, “I agree to expel her. But I ask the shaman to officially sever our mate bond. I will raise the female cub myself.”

Traditionally, the tribe believed that males couldn’t raise female cubs alone. If a cub lost their mother, they would usually be entrusted to the care of a designated elder responsible for nurturing orphaned cubs.

Later, Ge Ye woke up and refused to let go of her chubby cub. The little one, well-fed and drowsy, lay snuggled in his mother’s arms, sound asleep. His plump, honest appearance was utterly endearing.

“Ji Nuan, can you help name the cub?” Ge Ye asked, her bright eyes fixed on her friend sitting at the bedside.

Ji Nuan waved her hands frantically. “How could I do that? It should be up to his mother and father to name him!”

Song Yu entered the room carrying food. “A name given by the future shaman is sure to be one the cub will love.” He lightly poked the little one’s chubby cheek. “Isn’t that right, little cub?”
