Leisurely Life in the Beast World - Chapter 172
“What were you doing just now, Xiu Yan?” Ji Nuan asked, handing him a bowl of hot porridge.
Afraid the little female might burn her hands, Xiu Yan quickly took the bowl. “I went to ask them which tribe they’re from.”
Ji Nuan’s eyes lit up. “I only learned they’re beastmen from another land, coming from the Nia Forest across the frozen Ainilu River. I didn’t get their tribe’s name before you arrived.”
Xiu Yan sipped the warm porridge, the heat spreading through his body, and let out a sigh of contentment. “Hmm, they’re from a large tribe in the Nia Forest called the Gelu Tribe. They came looking for medicine powder to cure the worm disease.”
Ji Nuan nodded. “They told me that too. I said I was from the Tumang Tribe and gave them a small amount of the medicine powder.”
Xiu Yan raised an eyebrow. The little female cub was growing cleverer by the day.
The beastmen quickly packed up their belongings. Ji Nuan, bundled up like a dumpling, climbed onto Xiu Yan’s back as the group resumed their journey toward the Watson Tribe.
Their figures gradually disappeared into the vast whiteness of the snowy forest. Behind them, the bushes rustled, and a few beastmen emerged.
“Chief, it looks like Bei Ni and his group are really heading to the Watson Tribe. What should we do now?” A sleazy-sounding voice broke through the forest stillness.
Lu Te snapped a dry branch in his hand, his gaunt face twisted into a sinister grin. “Didn’t someone say there were beastmen from the Nia Continent here? Since that little female claimed she was from our Tumang Tribe and even gave them the medicine powder, let’s ask those Nia beastmen to take us in!”
“Heh heh…” The surrounding beastmen chuckled maliciously in unison.
“Chief, what about the cubs and females back in the tribe…?” one beastman hesitantly asked, his voice filled with worry.
Lu Te snorted. “The tribe is already surrounded by ferocious beasts. Are you going back to save them? Once we’re in the Nia Tribe, as long as you’re skilled hunters, do you think the females there won’t accept you?”
The beastmen exchanged glances, disappointment flickering in their eyes.
“Enough! Split up and find the Nia beastmen. Once you’ve located them, regroup here!” With a wave of his hand, Lu Te led a few beastmen deeper into the snowy expanse.
The remaining beastmen exchanged another glance before heading in the direction the beastmen from Watson had taken.
“Chief, those traitors! Let’s kill them!” The menacing voice of a tiger beastman growled through the forest as Lu Te and his group reappeared.
“Let them go,” Lu Te said with a cruel laugh. “Do they really think the Watson Tribe would take in beastmen who once attacked them? Ha! Let’s move!”
The snow was deep, so much so that even the tall beastmen’s limbs disappeared into the drifts as they ran, making the terrain even harder to navigate.
The journey back was especially bumpy. Ji Nuan had to grip the silver wolf’s fur tightly for stability. When Xiu Yan leapt over a deep ravine, Ji Nuan’s heart clenched, and she instinctively tightened her hold.
By the time she realized what she had done, a thick tuft of fur was clutched in her hand.
Stealing a glance at Xiu Yan, who was focused on the road ahead, Ji Nuan stuffed the fur into the pocket of her beast hide clothing and let out a quiet sigh of relief.
But as her gaze fell on the bald patch on his neck where the fur had been, guilt surged in her heart. What if this spot was visible when he transformed back into his human form? Wouldn’t that mean he’d have a bald patch on his head?
Imagining the proud silver wolf with a bald spot on his handsome head…
