Leisurely Life in the Beast World - Chapter 123
“It’s just as I suspected!” Ji Nuan stood near a tent, holding the silver wolf cub in her arms. Fu Yi had already disappeared into the camp.
Xiu Yan nodded his little head. “I noticed something was off with him when you made the crisp sweet fruit. If I hadn’t been there that day, he might have also tried to take you away.”
“It’s fine. Those powders I left were just tasteless grass and stinky fruit powder—completely useless for treating worm disease. I really hate sneaky behavior like that,” Ji Nuan pouted.
At that moment, Chief Ge Xing was with his tribe members, creating an atmosphere of silent tension. Many other tribes had noticed something unusual happening with the Watson Tribe that night but had no idea why.
The only one who understood the situation was Ya Li. He lay comfortably in a grass hut modeled after the Watson Tribe’s shelters, smiling at the young beastman before him, beaming with pride and holding a fragrant package.
“Brother, this is the medicine Ji Nuan just made. I only managed to steal it while she went out to eat,” She Wu said, looking at Ya Li expectantly, hoping for praise.
A rare genuine smile crossed Ya Li’s usually sinister face. “Go rest. Tomorrow, we’ll enjoy a good show. Without the medicine, let’s see how the Watson Tribe plans to trade.”
She Wu nodded and went to the grass hut Ya Li had arranged for him. Although it was nowhere near as warm or comfortable as the Watson Tribe’s shelters, being close to his brother filled him with happiness.
The following day, as the beastmen woke up, a mix of tension and excitement spread through the basin. Many skipped breakfast and gathered en masse at the Watson Tribe’s camp, eagerly watching the tribe members, who were still leisurely eating their morning meal.
Ji Nuan held the chubby cub in her arms while Fu Yi followed closely behind, carrying a large beast hide bundle. Chief Ge Xing, his mouth still shiny with grease, led a group of beastmen carrying a massive stone slab roughly one meter tall and two meters wide.
Seated behind the stone slab, Ji Nuan addressed the crowd of beastmen packed tightly before her. “I know many of you have doubts about the effectiveness of our deworming medicine. To prove that the Watson Tribe has not deceived anyone, I will select three beastmen today to test the medicine.”
Looking around the crowd, Ji Nuan raised her voice slightly. “Is there anyone willing to volunteer for this trial?”
Mao Da was the first to raise his hand. “I’m the chief of the Cat Tribe. I’m willing to test the deworming medicine.”
Ji Nuan glanced at Mao Da before loudly announcing, “This trial does not require you to trade anything. So, is anyone else willing to try it?”
Hearing that no goods were required, several beastmen from poorer tribes eagerly stepped forward. Among them, an elderly beastman spoke up, his voice filled with pain. “Honored Shaman, my worm disease flared up last month. It’s likely to fully break out soon. Either way, I’m going to die. I might as well give this a shot—maybe I’ll get a little more time to live.”
Ji Nuan handed him a small packet of medicine. “Don’t worry. This powder will cure your worm disease. Once you drink it, it will kill the parasites in your stomach. It might hurt a bit, but please bear with it.”
The elderly beastman’s hands trembled as he accepted the packet. Carefully, he emptied it into his chipped stone bowl and mixed it with his fingers before cautiously drinking it.
