Leisurely Life in the Beast World - Chapter 122
At the weak beastman gathering area, Mao Da stood solemnly before the tiny kitten-like cub. At the same time, Mao San looked on with sympathy at his mischievous younger sister, who was obediently squatting nearby.
The little one was far too daring, sneaking out alone like that. It was luckily that she had encountered the mild-tempered Fu Yi. If it had been the sharp-tempered silver wolf Xiu Yan instead…
The thought sent chills down their spines.
(Xiu Yan: Mao San, come over here and explain what makes you think I have a bad temper!)
“You dared to sneak out alone? What if someone had captured you? Why are you so disobedient?” Mao Da scolded, clearly exasperated as he looked at the little cub before him.
“Meow, meow, meow!” The tiny cub blinked her wide, round eyes and sincerely apologized without a hint of argument.
Mao Da’s anger instantly dissipated with a soft “pfft.” Scooping up the naughty little fluffball, he gave her a thorough cuddle before setting her back down. He gave her a gentle nudge on the rear. “Alright, go play now. But if you sneak off again, I’ll spank you.”
“Meow!” Taking the threat seriously, the little one instinctively shielded her bottom with her furry tail and scampered off to play with her friends.
“Father, Mother! I never thought I’d see you again!” Now that his sister had run off, Mao San could no longer hold back his tears, sobbing quietly.
His mother, sitting nearby, also wiped at her eyes. Even Mao Da’s own gaze turned red with emotion.
“Stop crying. How have you been in the Nayu Tribe?” Mao Da asked hoarsely as he patted the head of his long-lost brother.
Mao San shook his head. “Father, I never made it to the Nayu Tribe. They traded me to the Watson Tribe. The chief and shaman held my joining ceremony because the beast tide was discovered early last cold season. Now I’m officially a member of the Watson Tribe.”
“That’s wonderful! Hahaha!”
“Yes, we’ll never have to worry about your future again,” their mother added with relief.
The family sat together, talking happily, and Mao San only returned to the Watson Tribe after finishing lunch.
Yet his father’s parting advice weighed heavily on his heart.
The days passed quickly, and the tribe gathering was already on its third day. Ji Nuan’s most significant gains, besides exchanging for various fruits and seeds she’d never seen, were several dairy cows.
These had been traded from the Iron-Horned Cattle Tribe, which claimed the cows were easy to raise and ate fresh grass and hay without fuss. Among the traded cows were males and females, perfect for raising milk-producing cattle.
Ji Nuan was preparing to start the trade for the parasite medicine tomorrow. Chief Ge Xing had already gone with other tribe members to announce the news to the surrounding camps.
She mixed pumpkin seed powder with powdered tasteless grass, and the blend immediately took on a fresh, grassy scent, masking the original pumpkin seed aroma. The resulting mixture was incredibly refreshing.
Using collected leaves, Ji Nuan carefully portioned the medicine into small packages. After placing the packages beside her pillow, she finally went out to eat dinner, feeling reassured.
She didn’t notice the sneaky figure lurking behind her tent.
A snake’s tail slid carefully through the gaps in the knotted wood. The intruder cautiously opened the bundle beside the pillow and removed the neatly wrapped packages of medicine one by one, placing them into a prepared beast’s hide pouch.
She Wu’s eyes gleamed with joy and relief. Finally, he could return to his tribe and reunite with his brothers.
Without a second glance, he turned, slithering away toward the Tumang Tribe’s camp, his snake tail dragging behind him.
