Leisurely Life in the Beast World - Chapter 121
Fu Yi tilted his head. “Your brother?”
The little female cub nodded enthusiastically, her round eyes sparkling. “Meow meow!”
“What’s your brother’s name? I’ll help you find him.” The tribe did have Cat Beastmen, but it wasn’t easy to tell which one just by their appearance.
“Meow, meow, meow,” the kitten excitedly answered, her watery cat eyes full of joy as she spoke her brother’s name, Mao San.
Fu Yi, usually calm and composed, couldn’t help but twitch at the name. He remembered Mao San vividly.
When crossing the Ainilu River, Mao San had ridden on the back of a beast. Overwhelmed with fear, he nearly fell into the river and ended up with minor injuries from the ordeal. Fu Yi grabbed him at the last moment, preventing him from becoming the only casualty of the river crossing during the tribe gathering.
Waving a tiny paw, Fu Yi said, “Zhi zhi!”
Come on, I’ll take you to him.
The little female cub was ecstatic, repeatedly chirping “meow meow” in thanks, which made Fu Yi wrinkle his furry brow. This Cat Tribe cub was far too noisy for his liking.
Mao San had just returned from patrol and sat around the fire with his tribe mates, enjoying delicious roasted meat. His gaze occasionally drifted toward the riverbank in the basin’s center, a hint of melancholy in his eyes.
“Mao San, what’s wrong?” the leopard beastman who had patrolled with him asked, noticing his distracted state.
Mao San chewed on his meat and replied quietly, “I’ve been thinking about my parents. I heard the Cat Tribe was here, so I wondered if my father and mother might have come. I want to take some time to go and see them.”
The leopard beastman patted him on the shoulder. “If you want to go, just go. We’ve finished our patrol, and I can go with you this afternoon.”
Mao San was touched, taking a bite of his roasted meat and nodding tearfully.
“Zhi zhi?” Mao San?
A familiar chirping sound came from nearby, drawing the attention of the beastmen around the fire. Turning toward the sound, they saw a mink standing not far from the firepit.
“It’s Fu Yi!” The beastmen eagerly gathered around.
The mentioned Mao San was bewildered but allowed himself to be dragged over by the leopard beastman.
As Ji Nuan’s status in the tribe grew, Fu Yi, her protector, became an admired figure among the beastmen.
When the beastmen got closer, they noticed the fluffy little furball standing behind Fu Yi.
“It’s a Cat Tribe female cub!”
“It really is! How adorable!”
“If only I could trade for her as a mate!”
Fu Yi was thoroughly exasperated. These hopelessly smitten beastmen could barely move when they saw a female cub.
He shifted into his beastman form and unceremoniously picked up the little female cub by the scruff of her neck.
The poor kitten was terrified, dangling with all four paws in the air and her soft belly resting in Fu Yi’s hand. When she saw her brother pushing through the crowd, she immediately started crying, “Meow meow!”
Hearing the familiar, high-pitched voice, Mao San knew it was his little sister. He rushed forward and gently took the frightened kitten from Fu Yi’s rough grip, cradling her in his arms and stroking her fur.
“This little one was meowing outside Ji Nuan’s tent early in the morning. I brought her to you to avoid disturbing Ji Nuan. You take care of her,” Fu Yi said flatly. After greeting a few beastmen, he transformed back into his mink form, a flash of white light marking his departure as he disappeared into the camp.
