Leisurely Life in the Beast World - Chapter 118
The words from Ge Xing and Ji Nuan sent shockwaves through the gathered beastmen. Even Lu Te, watching the drama unfold with glee, quickly reverted to his beastman form and strode over.
“You’re saying this little female cub can concoct medicine to treat worm disease? You’re not trying to fool us, are you?” While his words expressed doubt, his intense gaze on Ji Nuan suggested he wanted to devour her on the spot.
Ge Xing stepped forward, blocking Ji Nuan from view, his eyes filled with disdain as he addressed Lu Te. “Not exchanging it with your Tumang Tribe anyway! Believe it or not, it’s none of my concern!”
Exchange?
The surrounding beastmen, who had gathered to watch the commotion, suddenly perked up. Judging from Ge Xing’s tone, would this medicine to treat worm disease be part of the tribe’s exchanges at the gathering?
In an instant, the weak beastmen became a secondary concern as the crowd eagerly peppered Ge Xing with questions about trading for the parasite medicine.
“Chief Ge Xing, how do we trade for the parasite medicine? What goods do we need to exchange for it?”
Ge Xing’s smugness was palpable, his every expression brimming with self-satisfaction. “We’ll hold a trade session at our camp in a few days. Tribes in need can come to exchange for it. The specific rules will be announced the day before.”
He ignored Lu Te, whose expression had darkened, turned and tugged Tu Ben along. The Rabbit Tribe beastmen trailed behind as they headed toward the Watson Tribe’s camp.
The camp guards were bewildered when they saw their chief returning with such a large group of weak beastmen. “What’s going on?” their faces seemed to ask.
“Uncle Tu Ben, I like this little cub! I want to go to the Watson Tribe!”
Suddenly, a soft, delicate voice interrupted Tu Ben’s dazed thoughts. It was Yaoyao, the young female hiding behind her mother earlier. Her beautiful eyes sparkled with admiration as she looked at Ji Nuan.
This immediately put the chubby cub nestled obediently in Ji Nuan’s arms on high alert, his narrowed eyes brimming with suspicion.
Tu Ben, a bit anxious, looked toward Ge Xing. “R-really? Are you really letting us join the Watson Tribe?”
The Rabbit Tribe beastmen behind him gazed expectantly at Ge Xing and Ji Nuan, their eyes filled with hope.
Unaware of Ji Nuan’s true intentions, Ge Xing had only brought the Rabbit Tribe beastmen back to the camp to find a safe place to discuss matters with them.
Ji Nuan tugged at the beast hide Ge Xing was wearing, signaling him not to speak yet. Turning to Tu Ben, she said, “Please have your tribe members wait here for a moment. I need to discuss something with the chief, and then we’ll arrange for your living spaces.”
While Ji Nuan’s words didn’t explicitly confirm that they would be accepted into the Watson Tribe, the promise of arranging living spaces made the Rabbit Tribe beastmen’s eyes brim with tears. Wasn’t this an indirect way of accepting them?
They quickly nodded their obedience.
Ji Nuan then pulled Ge Xing into her tent. She accepted two bowls of hot porridge from Fu Yi and handed one to Ge Xing before finally speaking. “Uncle Ge Xing, our tribe currently needs more and more beastmen, including the weak beastmen outside.”
Ge Xing blew on the steaming porridge before taking a sip. Puzzled, he looked at Ji Nuan. “The weak beastmen have poor hunting skills and contribute little to the tribe. Accepting them would be a burden.”
Hearing this, Ji Nuan broke into a mysterious smile. “Uncle, this porridge we’re eating has crisp sweet fruit I traded from the Grizzly Tribe. Let me ask you, do we have this fruit in our territory?”
Ge Xing thought for a moment and nodded. “We do, but there’s very little of it, and it’s scattered all over!”
