Leisurely Life in the Beast World - Chapter 108
The birds chirped loudly early in the morning, filling the air with noise. Ji Nuan, holding the plump little wolf cub in her arms, rolled over and grabbed its two chubby paws to cover her ears.
Why are the birds and beasts so noisy today?
Suddenly, a loud lion’s roar came from outside. The powerful presence of a top predator made the noisy birds and beasts fall silent. Except for a few faint whispers, the earlier ruckus vanished.
Sitting up, Ji Nuan held the soft cub in her arms. Though still a bit groggy, her mind was now completely awake. Ge Xing, I know you’re trying to help, but now I can’t sleep anymore.
Annoyed, she pinched the cub’s paw before heading out of the tent.
Overnight, the basin filled with tribes, appearing like mushrooms after rain. Those who arrived early took the inner circle, leaving latecomers to settle around the edges. A faint smell of blood hung in the air, likely from beastmen injured while crossing the river or from freshly hunted beasts.
Some tribes were setting out items to trade, others were butchering prey, and a few beastmen, like Ji Nuan, were climbing out of their grass nests with sleepy, irritated faces. The entire basin was lively and bustling.
After washing up in the small river in the basin, Ji Nuan returned to her tent to organize the items she planned to trade.
The plump cub was still lying on its back, snoring away with its soft, white belly rising and falling. A tuft of fur near its mouth was wet with drool.
Feeling envious, Ji Nuan crouched down and poked the squishy belly. The cub’s little leg twitched, and its sleepy eyes blinked open. Recognizing her, Xiu Yan yawned widely, his round head nuzzling her chest before falling asleep again.
“Ji Nuan, are you going out today?” Fu Yi’s cautious voice came from outside the tent, making Ji Nuan laugh.
Xiu Yan had been distraught the day before when she held Fu Yi’s fluffy beast form, glaring at him so sharply that it was a miracle Fu Yi hadn’t turned into a pincushion. After that mental blow, Fu Yi seemed slightly nervous about Ji Nuan’s cub.
“Yes, I am. Today, I need to find the beastmen from the Grizzly Tribe. Ge Ye asked me to trade for some crisp sweet fruits to bring back.” Ji Nuan remembered Ge Ye mentioning that these fruits were very popular among females. It would be wise to trade for as many as she could while the trading area was still less crowded.
“Alright, I’ll grab two pieces of roasted meat. We can eat and head out.”
As Fu Yi walked off, Ji Nuan sighed to herself. Fu Yi is such a good beastman—handsome and capable. I wonder which lucky female will end up with him.
She lifted the chubby cub by its two front paws and shook it. “Wake up! The sun’s already shining on your butt!”
“Awroo~” The cub let out a small, raspy groan of complaint, its round eyes filled with sleepy tears as it looked at her.
“Heh,” Ji Nuan laughed awkwardly, feeling slightly guilty. “Get up and eat some meat. After that, I’m heading out. You can keep sleeping if you want.”
Sleep? Who wants to sleep now? Xiu Yan’s eyes immediately lit up, staring at Ji Nuan suspiciously. “Awroo awroo?”
Who are you going out with? And why aren’t you taking me?
Feeling guilty, Ji Nuan avoided his gaze and mumbled, “I’m just going to look around. I want to trade for some crisp sweet fruits with the Grizzly Tribe.”
The cub wriggled out of her hands, landing gracefully on the ground before transforming into his tall, severe beastman form.
“I’ll go with you. And tell Fu Yi to carry the stuff.”
Hmph, trying to take my female? You’ll do the heavy lifting!
Relieved, Ji Nuan felt she had successfully dealt with Fu Yi’s involvement.
“I’m here for the little female,” said a familiar voice from outside the tent, laced with a sinister edge. Ji Nuan’s back stiffened instantly. It was Ya Li.
Ge Xing’s voice turned cold. “We trade outside. You can look there. Ji Nuan’s tent doesn’t have what you’re looking for.”
Ya Li chuckled lazily, his snake-like eyes on the tent covered with hide curtains. “What I want to trade for can only be found here.”
He leaned in slightly, his slender figure weaker than the other beastmen. A wicked smile spread across his lips. “Powder for treating worm disease.”
Ge Xing’s pupils shrank, his hands clenching tightly at his sides.
His sharp gaze locked onto Ya Li’s smug expression. The traitor has already told the Tumang Tribe about the powder!
