Leisurely Life in the Beast World - Chapter 105
“Hey!!! Which tribe are you from over there?” A loud shout suddenly came from across the river, capturing the attention of all the beastmen of the Watson Tribe who were resting by the riverbank.
Hearing the voice, Ji Nuan turned her gaze toward the other side of the river. A group of beastmen was wearing grass skirts, about thirty in total. Their numbers were shockingly small, and the goods they carried for trade, either in their arms or slung over their shoulders, were even fewer.
She turned to the tall silver wolf beastman beside her, whose expression still carried a hint of sourness. “Brother Xiu Yan, which tribe do those beastmen belong to?”
Seeing the little female cub willing to speak to him, Xiu Yan’s mood immediately soared. The corners of his handsome lips curved into a faint smile, and his deep, wolfish eyes begrudgingly shifted toward the scruffy group on the opposite bank. “That’s the Liangshan Tribe. Their territory is mostly barren mountains with few forests, so prey is scarce. However, the beastmen of the Liangshan Tribe are very brave and excellent hunters. Every year, they trade large quantities of prey for hides to take back.”
Meanwhile, Ge Xing had already started speaking with the leader of the Liangshan Tribe.
“I’m Ge Xing from the Watson Tribe. Pei De, why are you folks from the Liangshan Tribe so late this year?”
Pei De, a beastman with brown hair and a thick beard, looked a bit older and rougher than Ge Xing and Sa Ka’er. He even appeared somewhat disheveled.
Ji Nuan raised an eyebrow in surprise. In this world where male beastmen were typically clean and well-kept, it was rare to see one who looked so scruffy.
The beastman, on the other side, was relatively straightforward. Hearing Ge Xing’s name, he waved enthusiastically. “Haha! So it’s Ge Xing, the chief! Our tribe brought a lot of sturdy stone tools this year. We can trade some with your Watson Tribe once we cross over.”
At the end of last year’s gathering, the Liangshan Tribe, because of its smaller numbers, was ambushed and robbed by the Tumang Tribe. Thanks to Ge Xing and the beastmen of the Watson Tribe stepping in to help, they hadn’t returned home empty-handed.
As a result, the honest and straightforward Liangshan Tribe beastmen were deeply grateful to the Watson Tribe for their help.
Ge Xing’s eyebrows twitched with excitement at Pei De’s response, and his broad chest shook with laughter. “Be careful when you’re crossing the river. If you see dead trees floating on the surface, be highly alert. Those are monstrous fish. Don’t get injured; bleeding will attract even more dangerous ones.”
Pei De nodded gratefully at Ge Xing, then began organizing his tribe to safeguard their trade goods and prepare to cross the river.
Ji Nuan turned a jade bead in her hand thoughtfully. The Liangshan Tribe wasn’t wealthy; its beastmen were straightforward and sincere. This was a good opportunity to form a friendly bond.
She nudged the tall silver wolf beastman beside her. “Brother Xiu Yan, could you call over uncle for me?”
There was no way Xiu Yan would refuse her request. He tucked the beast’s hide over her legs and quickly walked to the riverbank to relay her words to Ge Xing.
Ge Xing, chatting animatedly with Xiu Yan, soon approached Ji Nuan. “Little Ji Nuan, did you call me over for something?”
Ji Nuan smiled warmly and nodded. “Yes, uncle. Could you send a few beastmen to help the Liangshan Tribe?”
Ge Xing was sharp. As soon as Ji Nuan made her request, he instantly grasped the deeper meaning behind the offer of assistance.
Teaming up makes things easier!
Whatever he had imagined made Ge Xing’s expression turn sly in an instant. He looked at Ji Nuan, saying, leave everything to me before turning toward the beastmen eating roasted meat around the fire.
Before long, a reluctant Ying Yan was roped in and, along with three other eagle beastmen, flew to the opposite bank to assist the Liangshan Tribe.
With Watson’s help, the Liangshan Tribe crossed the Ainilu River without significant incidents. Apart from one feline beastman who suffered minor injuries in a crocodile attack, the rest crossed safely, mingling with the beastmen from Watson, laughing and eating roasted meat together.
“Haha, Ge Xing, we can’t thank you enough! I can’t believe you came up with such a good way to cross the river.” Pei De’s honest face was filled with admiration.
Ge Xing scratched the back of his head, his cheeks reddening slightly. “This wasn’t my idea. Our shaman apprentice thought it up. Besides, we’re two allied tribes. There’s no need for such formality. Come on, let’s eat!”
