Chapter 11 The New Agent

Before Fang Zhuo could respond, the property agent waved his hand impatiently.
He had seen plenty of small startup bosses like this all talk no action. They’d visit the penthouse level and take three hundred photos just to show investors and job applicants back home, painting grand visions with those pictures.

Their pockets were emptier than their faces were clean, yet they insisted on putting up appearances.
Sneering, he picked up the keys to lock the penthouse door and urged from the doorway, “Hey man, you leaving or what? Your company only has about ten people. The rent here is two million a month it’ll take forever to earn that back. Even if you’re burning family money for fun, you should think about whether it’s worth it.The man across from him ignored the urging and simply replied, “Giant Entertainment.””

“What?” It took him a couple seconds to process that the man was answering his earlier question.
Giant Entertainment? Wasn’t that the ridiculously wealthy company that went viral overnight on StarNet?

Their hiring conditions were absurdly generous even entry-level assistants started with nearly forty thousand in base salary, plus all kinds of enviable benefits.

His expression instantly transformed, face breaking into an ingratiating smile. “Director, please wait a moment, I’ll fetch some fruits and snacks for you.”

“No need. The other party disregarded his attentiveness, simply transmitting Giant Entertainment’s online corporate verification card before requesting the rental contract. After scanning it briefly, he signed.

True to rumors decisive as ever. Two million seemed like insignificant digits in an account to him.

The property agent beamed with joy. His commission for this deal alone exceeded ten thousand. He’d barely lifted a finger throughout the process, yet the contract was signed so effortlessly this commission came way too easily.

Big spenders like this really knew how to throw money around. He decided to seize the opportunity to push another sale, determined to squeeze every last bit of profit:

“Boss, you must still need office supplies, right?” I know a shop with excellent quality many companies renting in our financial center use their desks and chairs. Would you like me to recommend them?”

“Not necessary.”

Fang Zhuo did a quick walkthrough, mentally noting what furniture was still needed before collecting the electronic keys and heading out. He coldly observed the property agent’s attitude completely flip within mere minutes.

“Notify your direct supervisor. Have him wait for me in the lobby.”

The top three floors had a dedicated elevator that reached the ground level in seconds. The moment he stepped out, he was greeted by two full rows of property management staff.

The leader among them was hastily straightening his collar while catching his breath clearly someone who’d rushed over after receiving last-minute news.

Seeing him emerge, the lead supervisor bowed apologetically while trying to salvage the situation: “Director Fang, our deepest apologies for the inadequate reception. Had we known you were coming personally, our entire team would have been here to greet you.”

“If you need any assistance during the soft installation phase later, please don’t hesitate to assign our property team.”

“My electronic business card has been transmitted to your Light Brain along with the office layout plan. You can contact me directly for any future needs.”
The supervisor was clearly more competent than the property management guy from earlier, who only now belatedly realized he had made a grave mistake, his face turning deathly pale.

Fang Zhuo couldn’t be bothered to argue further with the service staff and said coolly, “First, falsely claiming the top floor is no longer available for rent, then improperly promoting a renovation company is this your standard of service?”

As soon as he finished speaking, a thin layer of sweat broke out on the supervisor’s forehead, and he bowed repeatedly in panic.

“My apologies, we will strengthen team training and impose performance penalties on the staff involved in this incident.”

“We’re truly sorry for your negative experience. We will waive your first month’s property maintenance fee, and we assure you nothing like this will happen again.”

The staff lined up in two rows also bowed in unison, while the original property management guy was so frightened he began stammering, stumbling over his words even when apologizing.

Fang Zhuo didn’t respond. Instead, he turned and left the financial building as the supervisor continued sweating profusely.

He didn’t head straight back to his apartment but detoured into a shopping mall.

This commercial area happened to house the flagship store of the Star Federation’s largest chain renovation company, making it convenient to source all the soft furnishings.

After scanning the floor plan of the entire office area, the designer realized this was a major client and quickly ushered him into the VIP room, promptly presenting four layout options.

“This row-style workstation is our most recommended option. It’s the most cost-effective filling all available office space would require 320 desks and chairs. Including the appliances you need for the break room, the total comes to 2.05 million.”

Fang Zhuo frowned.

These row-style workstations resembled cramped, privacy-less barracks. Employees would probably want to set the whole place on fire the moment they clocked in.

He swiped through the other options and tapped on the fourth image. “I want this one.”

The office layout in the image was completely different from the current mainstream style in the Star Federation. The entire space was arranged with open, flexible workstations.

Instead of cramped rows of desks or rigid cubicles, there were comfortable sofas that could be freely rearranged and semi-enclosed desks that could be easily moved.

Hidden sliding tracks were embedded in the floor, allowing partitions to be adjusted to form small meeting rooms, with meeting content projected directly onto the partitions in real time.

This layout had low space efficiency and high costs, but its only advantage was the extreme freedom it offered employees. The office’s design was almost indistinguishable from working from home with a few friends employees could just plop down on any sofa and get straight to work, and no one would notice if they slacked off in between.

“Boss, this package totals 5.6 million, which is significantly more expensive than the row-style workstations. We handle installation and moving, and everything can be set up by tonight.”

“Fine.” Fang Zhuo swiftly paid.

As the designer uploaded the full plan to the cloud platform, he couldn’t help but marvel at the renderings. “Your employees are so lucky! Boss, are you still hiring?”

Even the receptionist nearby leaned on the desk enviously and joked, “No comparison, no regrets take me with you! I don’t want to work here anymore either.”

Fang Zhuo, who had been about to leave, leaned against the desk and smiled. “We’re still hiring. You can search for Giant Entertainment on StarNet and submit your resume directly on the official website.”
Before leaving the room, he could still hear the astonished chatter behind him

“Giant Entertainment? The same Giant Entertainment I know?”

“Of course… Don’t call me when you go to supervise the on-site installation this afternoon. I’ll be green with envy.”

“What does the design plan look like? Let me see Damn, I’m jealous too. I’m going to secretly submit my resume later. None of you are allowed to tell our manager.”

“It hurts. Just thinking about not being able to enjoy the luxurious office I designed myself makes me feel awful.”

“Starting monthly salary of 40,000, over 20 days of annual leave, workstations where you can slack off anytime, and a high-end coffee machine in the breakroom what worries could you possibly have working there? Even your nasolabial folds and forehead wrinkles would probably fade.”

“I want to tear down our cramped row of workstations right now. I equally envy every employee at Giant Entertainment. Who stole my life?”

Fang Zhuo glanced at his watch. It was just past ten after finalizing the soft furnishings, leaving plenty of time.

This mall was the luxury consumption hub of the entire Star Federation. Looking down from the third floor, he could see countless high-end brand stores below, where top-tier luxury bag shops with items priced at hundreds of thousands could only squeeze into the outermost corners of the first floor.

He usually didn’t have strong material desires, but his current clothes were genuinely uncomfortable.

When he first arrived, he was wearing a custom-tailored handmade suit, but all his other change of clothes since then were luxury ready-to-wear items temporarily purchased by Jiang Yu, none of which fit perfectly.

He entered a renowned old-school custom suit shop in the Star Federation. Upon hearing his requirements, the staff immediately began scanning measurements of his body with a handheld device.

Shortly after receiving the preliminary data, he didn’t wait long before the first version of the suit made from original fabric was ready.

The staff then meticulously recorded every ill-fitting area and returned twenty minutes later with an improved version, simultaneously handing Fang Zhuo a portable screen to select his preferred styles.

The advanced technology here indeed saved time this process was much simpler than the purely handmade suit alterations that typically required three or four rounds of revisions.

Fang Zhuo crossed out a few overly flashy colors and designs: “One of each of the remaining styles.”

“Certainly, that will be 2.64 million in total.”

Thinking of the agent scheduled to arrive that afternoon, he felt it necessary to prepare a gift. However, the thumbnail character models from the mystery box didn’t reveal the person’s body type, so he could only opt for more universal presents.

“Do you have ties or cufflinks here?”

“Yes, we do.” The staff directly wheeled over a large display cabinet filled with over a dozen ties of various designs and five or six distinctive metal cufflinks.

Bending slightly, the staff extended a hand to introduce: “Since you’ve chosen relatively traditional and low-key suit styles, I’d recommend trying this deep indigo patterned black tie.”

Fang Zhuo only intended to bring a gift for his new agent. Without even glancing at the prices, he said directly: “Please wrap up everything. Have them delivered to the nearby park entrance later.”

Even for an established custom suit shop serving high-net-worth clients, such a large order was rare perhaps once in half a year.

The staff member grinned from ear to ear, looking as if she’d willingly participate in a hundred-meter dash carrying suit bags if asked: “Of course, sir.”
Fang Zhuo swiped his card all morning, yet the amount he spent didn’t even make a dent in the balance he currently held.

He sat on the sofa inside the spaceship, watching the shop assistant hang his newly pressed suit in the wardrobe while neatly arranging the tie boxes by pattern on the table.

As the spaceship rapidly ascended from the ground, he looked down from above at the most expensive land in the entire Star Federation before leaving the central business district.

The area boasted the Federation’s most luxurious shopping malls, high-end financial towers, and the scenic central park every inch of it was worth its weight in gold.

He asked A little bit: [According to the rules, employee dormitories can be set up anywhere in the Federation, right?]

A little bit cheerfully replied: [Yes, the system can directly use the editor to modify the land and adjust the nearby residents’ awareness. Host, you just need to pick any vacant plot with sufficient space.]

There weren’t many vacant spots around. He selected an idle, temporarily sealed area right next to the park.

The next second, a over thirty-story employee dormitory sprang up from the ground, with well-planned roads appearing beside the building, seamlessly connecting to the city’s main routes.

[Building Name: Giant Entertainment Employee Dormitory]

[Basic Info: Two elevators per four units, each unit net area 85 square meters, layout: two bedrooms, one living room, one bathroom]

[Current Company Level: E, matching employee capacity: 152]

[Improve the company’s operational level to expand the dormitory scale. Keep working hard, President!]

Having efficiently resolved the issues of office space, interior decor, and employee dormitories in just one morning, Fang Zhuo leaned back against the sofa and rubbed his temples.
He had scheduled the first round of recruitment interviews for the afternoon and needed to return to his apartment beforehand to pick up the manager he’d drawn from the mystery box.

He wasn’t sure what form the system-assigned manager would take, given how bizarre the previous items from the boxes had been.

With those earlier rewards as precedent, he wouldn’t be too surprised even if he returned to find a giant egg containing the manager in his living room.

But before he could input coordinates into the spaceship’s positioning device, he received a message from an unfamiliar account:

[Director Fang, hello. I’m your new employee, just deployed to the BC35 Star Federation plane. It seems I’m currently floating in the ocean. Could you please come pick me up?]

Attached to the message were coordinates from the middle of the sea on a remote, desolate planet.

…???

Fang Zhuo sighed softly: [A little bit, are employees from the mystery boxes randomly deployed?]

A little bit’s voice remained carefree as ever: [Yes, because employee character cards are generally quite powerful. Even if randomly placed in strange locations, they’re usually fine.

Of course, the main system added this step mainly to foster bonding between the operator and the character cards. There have been past incidents of operators maliciously harming employees, and the main system wants to prevent similar tragedies.]

Fang Zhuo sneered: [Sorry, but I think adding this step makes it more likely to trigger the kind of incidents you want to avoid.]

A little bit: […]

Fortunately, the coordinates were precise. He accurately reached the deserted sea surface twenty minutes later.
His ill-fated agent was sitting helplessly in an orange inflatable raft, drifting blankly on the sea surface.

Upon seeing the spaceship’s arrival, the agent stumbled while standing up and immediately knelt down.

Fang Zhuo slowly descended the gangway: “There’s no need to be so courteous.”

The agent appeared to be in his thirties, slightly overweight, and his physical attributes weren’t as outstanding as A little bit had claimed. His ability to survive drifting on the vast ocean for so long was purely due to strong mental fortitude.

“Director Fang, let me introduce myself first. I’m Deng Jiaqiang, and like you, I come from the Blue Star dimension ”

Deng Jiaqiang had only halfway through his introduction when his gaze fell upon the dozen or so neatly arranged ties on the central table of the spaceship, his expression instantly becoming quite meaningful.

Fang Zhuo shook hands with him: “This is a meeting gift for you.”

As soon as he finished explaining, Deng Jiaqiang’s expression became even more inscrutable. He subtly made a gesture of tightening a noose and sticking out his tongue: “Director Fang, are you implying that if I don’t perform well, I should use these to end things myself?”

The two stared at each other in mutual confusion for a moment.

The air suddenly grew very quiet, leaving only the low hum of the spaceship’s operation.

Although Fang Zhuo acknowledged that his usual way of speaking wasn’t particularly pleasant, he didn’t think it would create such misunderstandings during a first meeting.

From his angle, he could just see the mirror, and while the face reflected in it didn’t show a prominent smile, it clearly had nothing to do with the demanding boss the other person had described.

He tried to make himself appear more amiable, slowing his tone to comfort: “I didn’t mean that at all. Why would you think that?”

After a moment of silence, Deng Jiaqiang finally relaxed with a long sigh of relief, sitting awkwardly on the edge of the sofa.

“You scared me to death. I’m sorry, my previous employer left me with some psychological trauma.”

He carefully accepted the water poured by Fang Zhuo himself, holding it for a long time without daring to take a sip:

“That employer not only failed to pick me up, but during our first meeting, he placed a gun on the table and said if I couldn’t help him make big money, I should eat bullets.”

“Well, you don’t need to worry about that.” Fang Zhuo input the coordinates sent by Jiang Yu: “I’ve already made money. Your assistance would just be the icing on the cake.”

He sent the company documents from his Light Brain to Deng Jiaqiang, allowing him to get a general understanding of the company’s operations.

When receiving the materials, Deng Jiaqiang’s expression remained fearful and apprehensive.

From his highly tense mental state, it wasn’t difficult to see how much psychological torture he had endured from his previous employer.

The background of this dimension was relatively complex, and Fang Zhuo didn’t expect him to digest all this information in one afternoon. He just wanted to use official matters to calm Deng Jiaqiang’s apparently terrified and unsettled emotions.

Before the spaceship docked at the venue, Fang Zhuo kindly suggested: “If you have the energy, you can come with me to the venue to observe the new employee recruitment process. If there are any candidates you particularly appreciate, you can take the opportunity to keep them.”

The venue Jiang Yu had rented was quite spacious, perfectly meeting all of Fang Zhuo’s requirements.

When standing on the stage, he could effortlessly see thousands of candidates simultaneously along with the Attribute Panels displayed above their heads.
Since the company’s rating had risen from F to E, the panel had begun displaying corresponding recommended professions for others.

Some people had “communication-based jobs like journalist, lawyer” floating above their heads, while others were labeled as writers. The system could only provide general directions, but the amount of information was vastly greater than before, helping him quickly identify suitable employees for each position.

A hundred regular employees were already considered quite bloated for a startup entertainment company. He only planned to select about thirty more people in the first round of interviews to fill gaps in the existing organizational structure.

Dense clusters of black text floated in the air as A little bit let out a sharp, mournful cry:

[Host, are you sure you haven’t taken any Energy Pills? I feel like what you’ve accomplished today equals five days’ work for other operators]

While selecting candidates, Fang Zhuo responded: [Making decisions alone doesn’t tire people out. It’s meaningless mechanical work that makes one feel exhausted]

A little bit weakly groaned in pain: [No, just watching you makes me tired. I feel completely drained, like I just finished an 800-meter race]

[Host, please take a break. At least have a meal? Do you remember you have stomach problems? Aren’t you in any pain at all?]

Fang Zhuo had already chosen thirty-two employees. Combined with the somewhat timid kid selected by Deng Jiaqiang, that made thirty-three new hires in total.

After conducting the onboarding mobilization meeting and briefing Jiang Yu about pending matters in the new office space, Fang Zhuo finally took his first bite of food at 7 PM in his hotel room.

Even while eating, his Light Brain continued streaming content about platform TV series’ recommendation algorithms and marketing tutorials, all while casually chatting with A little bit:

[When I’m busy, I don’t feel the pain]

A little bit teared up: [This is exactly why you died from overwork in your previous life]

Fang Zhuo didn’t agree: [That was because I had congenital heart disease before. My current body is much healthier than before]

A little bit felt that if it had legs, it would be pacing anxiously around the room. It exclaimed in shock: […You call this severe stomach ailment buff healthy?]

Fang Zhuo: [Isn’t it?]

A little bit was utterly impressed, projecting a kneeling emoji in Fang Zhuo’s mind: [Host, you’re a superhuman, and my god]

Working until 11:30 PM, as the room lights gradually dimmed, Fang Zhuo received a second message from Deng Jiaqiang before bed:

[Director Fang, I’ve thought of what we can use the new livestream room gifted by the system for! I discovered that BC35 dimension is missing one particular livestream format ]
