Immortal Martial Academy - Chapter 46
“Dammit, all idiots, absolute morons! I’ll take you bastards down with me.” Dark Rain turned, gathering a massive dark lightning orb in his hands.
Just as the explosion’s aftermath dissipated, a shadow swiftly darted forward, and a ball of dark lightning struck Ninth Child directly in the face. Feeling someone grab him moments before a deafening blast, Ninth Child was momentarily disoriented.
Shakily rising to his feet, he cursed, “Motherfucker, only one corpse left? Ugh! What a mess.”
Tenth Child rushed over, “Brother Jiǔ, are you alright?!”
“I’m fine! Let’s move quickly; the Human Race’s powerful reinforcements are coming. Now isn’t the time to linger.” Ninth and Tenth Child swiftly headed towards another battlefield.
Less than a minute after their departure, military elites arrived on the scene. Surveying the ground littered with minced flesh, their eyes erupted with killing intent. “Apologies, we’re late,” one of them muttered before immediately pursuing Ninth and Tenth Child.
The Divine Sword Squad had been pondering how to infiltrate the enemy stronghold, circling around the periphery of the battlefield. Upon receiving the Blood Squad’s message, they promptly began their retreat.
This war zone was extremely dangerous; a single misstep could mean death.
Dugu Tianjian spotted two red lights approaching and instantly warned, “Retreat! Two 5th Rank Rat Clan members are incoming.”
Remaining composed, Dugu Tianjian signaled for his squad to scatter and flee, including himself.
On the battlefield, it was common knowledge that Alien Race elites primarily targeted the gifted individuals; however, it remained unclear how many gifted ones these two powerful rats had already slain on their approach.
Dugu Tianjian prepared to cover their retreat, fully aware of the inevitable outcome – his own demise.
Just before the two rat elites could close in, a burst of white light intercepted them, engaging in fierce combat.
Dugu Tianjian swiftly turned away, knowing he couldn’t contribute much and would only hinder the situation by staying.
Aboard the Panda Express, Wu Xianyao observed the intense battle unfolding below. The 5th Rank elites showed no fear of conventional weaponry.
Of course, Great Xia possessed formidable weapons as well, such as Protomagnetic Crystal Arrows capable of killing even 6th Rank beings.
As for armaments specifically targeting 7th Rank entities, Wu Xianyao currently lacked information on those, but he confidently believed that after a thousand years, Great Xia must have developed means to counteract 7th Rank threats.
Certain matters were beyond Wu Xianyao’s current understanding, though he anticipated gaining clarity in the future.
While engaged with the 5th Rank elite, the Eighth and Ninth Corps began their withdrawal from the battlefield.
Chen Beixuan and his team silently emerged from the water cave, situated near the combat zone. However, lacking any aura of the gifted, they went unnoticed by the nearby Alien Race squad.
Once outside, they focused solely on killing enemies, their minds still reeling from the events within the cave.
Li Junlin’s silver spear danced relentlessly, felling one alien warrior after another. Linyang and Linyue diligently guarded Li Junlin to prevent any unforeseen mishaps.
Despite their discomfort, each member understood the gravity of the situation.
On the battleship, Protomagnetic Crystal Arrows began charging up, prompting Ninth and Tenth Child to immediately halt their actions.
The 5th Rank military leader stood mid-air, facing off as both human forces and the rodent aliens commenced their retreat.
Neither side made a move, adhering to an unspoken rule of the battlefield.
Ninth and Tenth Child dared not act, fully aware they were locked onto. Similarly, Great Xia’s 5th Rank powerhouse felt targeted, right within the Fifth Stronghold.
Yan Ba, stationed outside the command room, kept his focus on the Human Race side, specifically locking onto the military’s 5th Rank expert.
For the Alien Race, their most potent weapons have always been individuals, relying minimally on technology.
After approximately half an hour, the battleship began to retreat, and the locks from the Protomagnetic Crystal Arrows gradually decreased before disappearing completely.
Yan Ba refrained from taking action, unsure if the Great General was aboard; as a 6th Rank early-stage Rat, he couldn’t risk facing such a formidable opponent.
On the battleship, the six members of the Blood Squad sat silently in their room, still reeling from the shock, unable to fully process what had transpired.
Even during the handover, they were dazed, barely aware of how they disembarked from the battleship.
Upon returning to the hotel, Wu Xianyao did not join them immediately.
These experiences must be faced individually, just as Wu Xianyao had done previously – it’s a journey each person must navigate alone.
Later that night, on the rooftop terrace of Peace Hotel, Wu Xianyao sat with a beer in hand, gazing at the moon above.
“Do you think those two pieces of information were worth it? Over ten thousand soldiers lost their lives,” pondered Wu Xianyao aloud. As a Dao Protector, he was privy to details about the mission undertaken by the academy Battle Team.
Initially, Wu Xianyao believed the task would be straightforward, but witnessing the brutal reality of the battlefield left him somewhat disheartened.
The strength of Great Xia’s lower ranks was severely lacking, and high-level combatants were scarce. A single corps-level battle resulted in over ten thousand casualties.
“Regardless of its value, we must obtain this information. Even if it turns out to be worthless, we still need to act,” Lan Haoyue appeared beside Wu Xianyao and sat down.
“Why?” Wu Xianyao was puzzled, perhaps due to his lack of exposure to war. Even in his previous life, he had lived during peaceful times.
“Great Xia cannot afford any risks; even the slightest unexpected event could be catastrophic. That is my answer to you.” Lan Haoyue gazed indifferently at the moon, which tonight showed as a waning crescent, mirroring their somber mood.
“I understand now!” Wu Xianyao stood up, finishing his beer in one gulp. “My apologies for that display. It seems I still have much to learn.”
Lan Haoyue wasn’t surprised. At only 17 years old, Wu Xianyao already comprehended things beyond many others’ grasp, including some insights that even she couldn’t fully grasp herself. He possessed a profound sense of history, yes, that’s exactly what it felt like.
Just when you thought you understood him completely, he would swiftly grasp concepts from different angles, demonstrating more knowledge than you in various fields. It was akin to reading a fragmented history book, with pieces occasionally being filled in.
“Apologize? Perhaps you don’t realize who you truly are yet, but there are certain aspects where I fall short compared to you. At the very least, I cannot bear to see my students endure such hardships,” Lan Haoyue lamented.
Recalling his own past as a gifted individual, witnessing fellow warriors committing suicide before him and pleading for their deaths, all to save those who survived – these memories weighed heavily on Lan Haoyue. Whether it was a sense of responsibility or merely surviving, everything revolved around continuing to live.
Once upon a time, the Human Race’s territory had been vast, but now only Great Xia remained, serving as its last sanctuary.
If Great Xia were to fall, there would be no place left on this planet for humans to survive.
“What deep thoughts seem to occupy your mind?” Wu Xianyao observed Lan Haoyue’s distant gaze, finding it somewhat amusing that he could drift off during a conversation.
“Nothing much. Aren’t you going to check on your students? They’re enduring quite a lot right now,” Lan Haoyue raised an eyebrow.
Wu Xianyao shook his head, “Would it help? Some challenges must be faced alone.”
“There’s news about the Alien Race’s heir, but he is guarded by a 5th Rank powerhouse,” Lan Haoyue nonchalantly mentioned, as if referring to a mere ant. Indeed, being at the 7th Rank himself, he likely viewed a 5th Ranker akin to an insect.
“A 5th Ranker, huh?” Wu Xianyao pondered briefly. “Give me the coordinates.”
Lan Haoyue looked slightly surprised at Wu Xianyao, “Are you confident? Killing a 5th Rank isn’t easy.”
“Don’t nag!” Wu Xianyao replied.
