Immortal Martial Academy - Chapter 32
After confirming everyone’s readiness, Chen Beixuan accepted another mission on his wristwatch.
Once again, it was a purification task located twenty kilometers away.
The team re-entered the blood-red plain, cautiously traversing through it as before.
They occasionally encountered Xenobeasts, using these encounters to hone their skills. As they approached their destination, Chen Beixuan sensed something amiss once more.
“Stay alert, this doesn’t feel right.” The group spread out, taking cover and observing from afar.
Ahead lay a pond where various Xenobeasts came for water; frequent battles occurred here, typically between different Xenobeasts themselves.
“What’s wrong, Beixuan? What do you sense?” Li Junlin asked over the channel.
Chen Beixuan lay hidden in the grass, his armor turning red to blend seamlessly with the surrounding blood-colored terrain.
“I’m not sure, but I felt an energy fluctuation just now.” Chen Beixuan genuinely didn’t know what exactly he had detected, but there was undoubtedly a subtle disturbance.
“Linyang detected multiple alien squads at nine o’clock direction – wait, not just one but three! Berserk Lion, Flame Rat, and Blood Wolf squads are converging towards the pond,” Linyang reported over the team channel.
“Continue observing, do not make any hasty moves,” Chen Beixuan responded, feeling anxious. Had they been discovered?
All his teammates were only 1st Rank, with only himself and Junlin being at 2nd Rank. Encountering three alien squads wasn’t about whether they could defeat them; it was more about whether they could escape alive. The aura of the leading aliens indicated they were clearly 4th Rank powerhouses.
Moreover, their position near the pond was no more than five hundred meters away.
Perhaps due to the unique nature of Qi and Blood Martial Dao, these aliens had yet to detect Chen Beixuan’s group of six.
One member from the Blood Wolf squad said, “This time, we’ve jointly purchased intelligence from three sources. A high-ranking member of the Black Bat Clan will be present; they rarely emerge from deep within human territories, so expect the information to come at a steep price.”
The Captain of the Berserk Lion Alien squad spoke up, “Many gifted individuals have arrived at the front lines this time, especially students from various academies, most being inherently talented. However, there seems to be unusually scarce intelligence available; it’s puzzling. Hopefully, Black Bat can provide some answers.”
The Captain of the Flame Rat Squad, also a 4th Rank expert, glanced around with a slight frown, sensing something amiss but unable to pinpoint it, ultimately dismissing it as his own paranoia.
“The intel pricing remains unchanged,” he stated. “Our Flame Rat Clan will contribute only twenty percent, while the rest is split between you two teams. Similarly, we’ll claim just twenty percent of the profits.”
The Captains of the Berserk Lion and Blood Wolf squads nodded in agreement, waiting by the pond.
Approximately five minutes later, spatial fluctuations emerged, signaling the appearance of a Space Gate. A figure in a black robe stepped through.
“Apologies for keeping you three waiting,” the black-robed figure said with a smile. “I hope your stakes are sufficient this time.”
“Our stakes are more than enough,” replied Berserk Lion, teasingly adding, “But I wonder if your information matches our expectations.”
“All right, no need for pleasantries. I have three pieces of information here. Same rules as before?” The black-robed figure looked at Flame Rat.
Flame Rat nodded and handed over a space ring. Sensing its contents, the black-robed figure acknowledged with another nod, then passed an envelope to the captain of the Flame Rat Clan.
Similarly, the Berserk Lion and Blood Wolf squads provided their space rings and received envelopes in return.
“Transaction complete. As long-time partners, let me share one more piece of free intel: Lan Haoyue’s sister has also entered the front lines this time. Capturing her could prove highly advantageous.” The black-robed figure turned to leave through the Space Gate but paused, slightly frowning. “Ah! You’re quite careless, not even noticing these little ants nearby. No worries, I’ll assist you briefly.” With that, soundwave attacks were directed towards six different directions.
Immediately after, the black-robed figure slipped into the Space Gate, which promptly closed behind them.
Six figures emerged from hiding and swiftly took off running.
The Blood Wolf, Flame Rat, and Berserk Lion squads quickly pursued them.
“We can’t let them escape. After them!” shouted the captain of the Berserk Lion squad.
Although they hadn’t seen the intelligence yet, if these individuals managed to report back to the Human Race, suspicions would arise, leading to increased precautions. This could make future operations significantly more challenging.
“Split up into pairs and run in different directions. There must be other squads nearby on missions; seek their assistance and continuously update your coordinates on the military channel,” Chen Beixuan instructed as he took off with Lan Yuecai, Li Junlin fled with Jiu Xian’er, while Lin Yue and Lin Yang ran together.
The three squads separated to pursue them individually. This time, all squad captains were 4th Rank experts, unlike the earlier 1st or 2nd Rank scouts from the morning.
Chen Beixuan knew his limits; against a 3rd Rank, he might have a chance, but facing a 4th Rank left him no option but to flee.
Twenty kilometers wasn’t an insurmountable distance. Chen Beixuan unfurled his Qi and Blood Wings, soaring into the sky instantly.
Similarly, the others activated their wings, prioritizing speed over conserving energy for this critical escape. With the boost of their Qi and Blood Wings, covering twenty kilometers would take mere minutes.
While the 4th Rank elites were faster, one advantage remained: only those at 4th Rank or higher could truly manipulate air currents.
The three alien captains could fly, but their teammates couldn’t; thus, they could only chase after the three human leaders.
However, as soon as the alien captains took flight, they were stunned – what the hell were these abilities? Have the Human Race’s skills become so formidable?
Despite their shock, the three alien captains didn’t give up. With three sonic booms, “Bang! Bang! Bang!”, they pursued relentlessly.
Six individuals heading in six different directions – unless luck was truly against them, at least three should make it back safely.
Seeing one of the figures darting towards Jiu Xian’er, Chen Beixuan materialized his silver spear and swiftly charged forward.
Jiu Xian’er glanced back at Chen Beixuan, gritting her teeth, said, “Captain, wait for me.”
Chen Beixuan struck the Flame Rat powerhouse directly on its flank with his spear, but facing a 4th Rank opponent as a mere 2nd Rank, he stood no chance.
A single claw swipe sent Chen Beixuan flying, yet fortunately, it only grazed his armor. Quickly regaining his balance mid-air, Chen Beixuan turned and fled.
The Blood Wolf powerhouse locked onto Linyang, leaving a trail of blood-red energy as it chased him closely, while Lin Yue led ahead.
Linyang gauged the distance; realizing the pursuer would catch up within seconds, he produced a marble bomb and hurled it behind him.
“Boom! Boom! Boom!”
Explosions filled the sky as the Blood Wolf was caught off guard.
Continuously evading, the Blood Wolf’s speed gradually slowed down.
Linyang breathed a sigh of relief but saw the relentless pursuit continue. Quickly, he produced several vials, which exploded mid-air releasing their contents.
The Blood Wolf abruptly halted, facing the toxic mist with a grim expression, “You little brat, once I catch you, your death will be slow and agonizing.”
Meanwhile, Lan Yuecai found herself in a dire situation, pursued relentlessly by the Berserk Lion. Despite utilizing her Qi and Blood Wings along with purchased Heavenly Wings for incredible speed, she couldn’t shake off the beast behind her.
Neither poison nor marble bombs deterred the Berserk Lion; its thick hide rendered it virtually impervious to such attacks.
