Immortal Martial Academy - Chapter 10
As Wu Xianyao pondered his future, a girl with her hair tied in a high ponytail, wearing blue casual pants and a white t-shirt, appeared before him.
She had delicate features and carried a small blue purse. Her slender eyebrows furrowed slightly, and her cherry-red lips parted as she spoke, “Wu Xianyao, who’s more attractive, me or that table?” Lan Yuecai displayed a hint of petulance.
Wu Xianyao looked up, greeted by the sight of this elegant young woman, and smiled awkwardly. “You’re here already? I thought you wouldn’t arrive for some time. How have you been?” He waved over the server, who brought their previously ordered milk tea.
“If I didn’t remind you, would you even notice me?” Lan Yuecai pouted, taking a seat across from Wu Xianyao.
“What are your plans moving forward? Our class didn’t have any gifted individuals.
Now that we’ve graduated, our futures seem predictable. You’re just a month younger than me; why don’t we go register and get married right away?
Personally, compared to seeking compatibility elsewhere, I prefer someone familiar. At least my parents have no objections.”
Lan Yuecai chattered incessantly, leaving Wu Xianyao feeling overwhelmed. Isn’t today not the right time to discuss this? he thought.
“It’s still early, very early. If you feel the same way when the time comes, we can certainly discuss it,” Wu Xianyao responded ambiguously.
Starting a family was an option for ordinary people, but at present, Wu Xianyao had no such intentions. He preferred to wait and see who he might be matched with next year.
“What have you been thinking these past few months?” Wu Xianyao wanted to gauge her perspective.
“What else could I think? If I’m gifted, I’ll head to the battlefield; if not, I’ll just wait for my match.” Lan Yuecai spoke casually, showing a pragmatic outlook.
Despite her nonchalant words, Wu Xianyao sensed her underlying discontent. He took out the acceptance letter and said, “If you trust me, sign here. It may not be the best choice, but it will give you additional options, which isn’t a bad thing.”
Without even glancing at the document, Lan Yuecai picked up the pen and signed immediately. “I’m willing to marry you on the spot, so why wouldn’t I trust you?”
As soon as she signed, a voice echoed in her mind, “Truly remarkable! This is your academy, isn’t it? Seems like our classmates missed out on quite an opportunity.”
Lan Yuecai remained unfazed; her family background wasn’t ordinary, and encountering such extraordinary events was not new to her.
“Alright, I’ve sent you the address. You can choose to live at the academy or with your family; it’s up to you.”
Wu Xianyao stood up, having completed this task. Now, all that remained was to scout for potential talents in District Eight.
“Great! I’ll go pack and report to the academy tomorrow, oh great Headmaster, don’t disappoint me now,” Lan Yuecai playfully teased.
Wu Xianyao quickened his pace, causing Lan Yuecai to giggle uncontrollably. As she noticed others staring, her expression turned stern, “What are you looking at? Haven’t you seen a beautiful woman before?”
The onlookers quickly dispersed, muttering, “She’s a tigress in sheep’s clothing.”
Walking through the streets, Wu Xianyao engaged in brief conversations here and there, but most people treated him as if he were eccentric.
After spending the entire afternoon without any significant findings, he decided to try again the next day. On his way back, Wu Xianyao glanced towards the direction of the villa district within the settlement area. He sensed a distinct aura reminiscent of the Dog Monster from their previous encounter, but this time, the energy felt much purer.
With a swift movement, Wu Xianyao vanished from the street.
At the villa district, Lan Yuecai leaned against the windowsill, watching the battle unfold outside. Black-robed figures clashed with Nightwatchers amidst swirling ice and raging flames. Occasionally, someone would be brutally cut down, while black-robed assailants met their demise as well.
“What are you looking at? Outside the villa’s tree, Wu Xianyao stood holding his World Illuminating Spear among the leaves.”
“Y-y-you…” Lan Yuecai recoiled, landing hard on the carpeted floor.
“Those people are from the Alien Race; they seem to be here for assassinations.”
Members of the Alien Race often infiltrated human bases, targeting individuals with extraordinary talents for assassination once discovered.
“Stay put,” Wu Xianyao said before leaping into the battlefield.
One of the black-robed figures sensed Wu Xianyao approaching and raised its blade towards him.
Wu Xianyao struck swiftly with his spear, instantly piercing through the figure’s skull.
Earlier that day, Qiu Xia received intelligence about an impending assassination attempt by the Alien Race on Lan Haoyue’s sister, Lan Yuecai. Upon receiving this information, he positioned himself nearby, ready to intervene.
Deploying ten elite members of the Alien Race to target a single ordinary human was quite an extravagant move. Fortunately, the defenders were no weaklings either.
Simultaneously, over a dozen Nightwatchers launched their attacks, instantly killing three members of the Alien Race. The remaining seven were no weaklings either, sparking a fierce battle.
Qiu Xia’s team steadily retreated, nearing defeat.
Suddenly, a man dressed casually in black appeared and swiftly ended the life of another alien with a single strike from his spear.
“Hey! Monster beasts, and half-transformed ones at that. Your foul stench is unmistakable even halfway down the street.” Wu Xianyao stepped forward, leaving behind only a blurred afterimage.
One of the black-robed figures warned, “Watch out, it’s a powerful Human Race member.”
Before he could finish, darkness clouded his vision as Wu Xianyao’s spear pierced through his head, lifting him high into the air. As the robe fell to the ground, it revealed a long snake.
“You shall die, leader!” another black-robed figure roared furiously, releasing a green smoke.
Qiu Xia urgently shouted, “Beware, it’s toxic smoke!”
With a surge of blood energy, the toxic smoke dissipated. “You want me dead? How so? With your venomous flesh?” retorted Wu Xianyao mockingly.
“Retreat! Spread the word – an unparalleled Chosen has emerged among the Human Race.” The remaining four snake race monsters attempted to flee.
But could Wu Xianyao truly face them here? A flurry of afterimages danced across the scene as one by one, the black-robed figures crumpled to the ground like discarded spicy snacks.
Within less than a minute, all seven members of the snake race were slain by Wu Xianyao.
Qiu Xia was dumbfounded. What kind of gifted individual is this? So incredibly powerful! Wait, he’s not a gifted one; there’s no sign of elemental energy. Then what ability is this? Qiu Xia pondered internally.
Only a dozen or so Nightwatchers remained, staring at Wu Xianyao with wide-eyed amazement.
Wu Xianyao, about to leave, suddenly remembered something and flicked his fingers, sending over a dozen acceptance letters flying into the hands of the Nightwatchers.
“The Martial Dao has been rekindled; it’s time for humanity to seize control of its own destiny.” With that, Wu Xianyao turned and departed without further explanation.
Lan Yuecai watched in awe as Wu Xianyao effortlessly dispatched the alien monsters. How incredible! she thought. If I could be this strong, I’d finally help my brother on the battlefield.
Just as Wu Xianyao stepped out of the villa area, his communicator beeped urgently.
Chen Beixuan’s anxious voice came through, “Xianyao, where are you? Junlin’s residence is under attack from the Alien Race. We’ve managed to kill some enemies, but we learned that another assassination squad has targeted Junlin’s family.”
Wu Xianyao furrowed his brow. Assassinations happening simultaneously? This suggests the situation may be more complex than it seems.
“Head over there immediately, armed with the weapons I provided. As long as they’re not 3rd Rank Aliens, you should handle them fine. Stay safe, I’m on my way back.”
Glancing briefly at the nearby car, Wu Xianyao instead channeled power into his foot, creating a large crater upon takeoff. He leaped onto the rooftop and vanished into the night.
