Immersive Horror Game - Chapter 4
Tap, tap, tap…
High heels clicked on the floor, making a crisp yet hollow sound. The woman stepped into the elevator, and the elevator doors slowly closed behind her.
Being trapped in the cramped elevator with a woman he couldn’t tell was human or ghost… The oppressive fear made Mo Shouchun feel like he was suffocating.
He could only stand like a tree stump in one corner of the elevator, too afraid to move.
“Which floor are you going to?”
Just as Mo Shouchun was at a loss, the woman suddenly spoke. Her voice was hoarse. It was as if her throat had been sanded. Just hearing it sends chills down his spine.
The post warned against talking to this woman, so Mo Shouchun didn’t answer or dare make a sound. But to his horror, after receiving no response, the woman simply walked up to him and slowly bent down…
Mo Shouchun’s heart skipped a beat.
Did this woman want to see his face?!
Thinking of this possibility, Mo Shouchun quickly turned his body away and clung tightly to the elevator wall like a gecko.
But after turning around, he was horrified to realise he had made a grave mistake.
The elevator walls were made of stainless steel! So as he turned, he also saw the woman’s face reflected in them!
It was… a terrifying face.
On its pale surface rested a pair of wide, lidless eyes staring blankly at him. The pupils were black and hollow like holes poked in a black sesame-filled dumpling with chopsticks.
When their eyes locked, the woman grinned a bright smile like a snotty-nosed child seeing fried chicken.
Mo Shouchun was so terrified by this face that he nearly died on the spot. He quickly closed his eyes, but… he had already seen the ghost’s face!
What awaited him next? Torn to pieces? Twisted into a pretzel?
Time ticked by. Mo Shouchun had already imagined more than ten gruesome ways to die, but the ghost didn’t attack him. The elevator was deathly silent the whole time. Apart from his own breathing and heartbeat, he couldn’t hear any other sound.
Did she leave out of boredom?
Mo Shouchun slowly opened his eyes a crack, only to immediately close them again. The ghost was still standing behind him with her terrifying face resting on his shoulder.
Her face was only half an inch away from touching his!
Even with his eyes closed, the ghost’s image remained vivid in his mind.
If he were to be honest… Her expression and posture appeared somewhat mentally challenged. But that only made it more terrifying because it couldn’t be guessed what she would do next.
Compared to being killed by a ghost right away, this agonising wait was worse than death.
Damn it! So be it!
Mo Shouchun couldn’t take it anymore.
He abruptly opened his eyes and stared intently at the face reflected on the elevator wall. He wanted to see what tricks this ghost would pull. But even after staring for a long time, the ghost remained motionless.
Was this ghost simply lonely and looking for a shoulder to lean on?
Since this ghost enjoyed doing performance art, Mo Shouchun thought it best not to disturb her. He cautiously moved to the side, trying to put as much distance between them as possible. But to his surprise, the ghost followed him, and they returned to their previous positions.
Is this even possible?! He wailed internally.
Mo Shouchun, unconvinced, moved two more steps, and the ghost moved two steps as well. He squatted down, and the ghost squatted down too…
Mo Shouchen: Synchronising your movements with mine? In that case…come to the left, and we’ll draw a dragon together, and on your right, a rainbow!
The ghost: …
Mo Shouchun thought he might have really scared himself silly; why else would he have this absurd idea of dancing in front of a ghost?
However, he also came to a conclusion from his ridiculous actions. The ghost behind him wasn’t just imitating his movements… it simply wanted to rest its face on his shoulder!
This behaviour was somewhat similar to that of a wolf. It’s said that wolves will place their paws on a person’s shoulder, and if that person turns around, they’ll be bitten to death.
So, was this ghost clinging to his back to lure him around?
That means, as long as he didn’t turn around and look directly at the ghost’s face, he wouldn’t be attacked!
Mo Shouchen thought this was very likely. But even if he was temporarily safe, who could stand having something like this clinging to their back? So he slowly began to move towards the buttons. Only by starting the elevator could he have a chance to leave.
He laboriously moved his body along the wall, and finally his hand touched the buttons. He pressed the first-floor button, and the elevator shuddered before it began to ascend.
Yes, he pressed the first floor, but the elevator was going up. According to the post, this meant that the passage to another world had been successfully opened.
After the elevator started moving, Mo Shouchen continued to slowly move towards the door. The ghost followed behind, showing no intention of harming him.
Finally, the elevator reached the tenth floor. Before the doors even fully opened, Mo Shouchun, who had already moved to the doorway, couldn’t wait to rush out. But as soon as he stepped out, a cold hand grabbed his shoulder from behind.
“Where are you going?”
The ghost’s hoarse voice came from behind, crushing Mo Shouchun’s newly surging hope like a shredder. He had a premonition that if he were pulled back into the elevator like this, even if he didn’t look at the ghost’s face or speak to her, he definitely wouldn’t survive.
Mo Shouchun braced himself against the walls on either side of the elevator doors with both hands and leaned his whole body forward with all his might.
This movement was like that of a labourer pulling a cart, the only difference being that the labourer had ropes on his shoulders while he had a ghost’s hand pulling him back.
Even with all his strength, Mo Shouchun still couldn’t break free from the ice-cold hand. If he continued to struggle like this, he would eventually be pulled into the elevator!
At this critical moment of life and death, he suddenly thought of a way. Although it was a bit risky, at this moment, he had no other choice.
Because the button hadn’t been pressed for a long time, the elevator doors began to close automatically.
Mo Shouchun, nearly exhausted, had been waiting for this moment. Seizing the opportunity, he released his grip, and the ghost immediately pulled him backward. However, the half-closed elevator doors prevented him from being pulled inside all at once.
At the same time, he quickly unzipped his jacket, swung his arms back and shrugged his shoulders, successfully breaking free from the jacket along with the hand that had been gripping him.
Due to momentum, Mo Shouchun stumbled forward, and his face slammed hard against the wall opposite the elevator.
The pain brought tears to his eyes, but he ignored it and quickly turned to glance at the elevator out of the corner of his eye, trying to see if the ghost had chased after him.
Thankfully, the ghost stood motionless in the elevator, clutching his jacket and showing no intention of pursuing him.
The moment the elevator doors closed completely, a sinister laugh echoed from inside.
Mo Shouchun was puzzled. The duck she had almost caught had flown away, yet she had the gall to laugh? It seemed she really had some mental issues!
Uh… comparing himself to a duck seemed a bit inappropriate!
Mo Shouchun found himself relaxing. He then felt a warm rush in his nose—it was blood.
He quickly tilted his head back and covered his nose with his hand to stop the bleeding.
Creak…
A sound suddenly came from his left. Mo Shouchun’s blood instantly froze.
Although the surroundings looked no different from the previous hotel, he knew in his heart that this was no longer the same world.
So… what… could be making that sound?
