I’m Trapped in a Cube - Chapter 45
The sheep-headed person had no hostility toward normal-cell organisms.
Because the previous battles with the sheep-headed person were so intense, Mo Ling had always overlooked this point.
From the time it started killing Tree-Breaking Sheep in the containment zone, to slaughtering the Transparent Tribe in the underground world, and even kidnapping that “traitor,” the sheep-headed person had always been targeting Theseus Cell organisms.
It had always been following the Ugly Duckling Phenomenon, and it was slowly learning to restrain its actions, no longer committing mass slaughter.
It was constantly growing.
It would only activate its defenses when its freedom was restricted by attacks.
Both times it killed squad soldiers were because it was surrounded by humans.
Mo Ling felt a bit strange.
“Could it be our fault?”
Mo Ling quickly reminded Li Luo and shared his guess with everyone.
When Captain Su learned of this, he was stunned and speechless.
After thinking for a while, he said helplessly, “If we hadn’t provoked it from the start, would so many people not have died?”
They’d chased this sheep-headed person from the containment zone to the Transparent Tribe’s village, turned it from a lamb into a sheep-headed person, and even trained it to be so capable.
Captain Su sighed, “Let’s just consider those brothers as having sacrificed themselves for precious Abyssal biological data. For now, let’s not provoke this sheep-headed person anymore.”
A soldier nearby asked in confusion, “Captain, aren’t we going to take revenge?”
“Revenge isn’t for now. It can’t be killed, and it poses no threat to us. When the Red Rope Worm in its body finishes its mission, it’ll die on its own.”
The soldiers were still a bit unwilling.
Seeing everyone so frustrated, Captain Su comforted them,
“Don’t forget our goal. We came down here to eliminate its danger and prevent it from threatening humanity.”
“Now, after investigation, we’ve found this sheep-headed person has no hostility toward normal-cell organisms and only slaughters Theseus Cells. Isn’t that exactly what we wanted?”
“Whatever it does next has nothing to do with us. Our goal has long been achieved. Any further entanglement would only cause more casualties.”
Having spent so long in the Abyss, the soldiers were no fools and nodded in understanding.
However, inside the temple, there was still a group unwilling to let the sheep-headed person leave.
That was the Transparent Tribe.
The leader and his people blocked the temple exit.
He asked the sheep-headed person in anguish, “Why do you hurt your own kind, fellow tribe member?”
The sheep-headed person stopped, tilted its head as if not understanding, glanced at the leader, and tried to walk forward again.
But after just one step, a group of Transparent Tribe members charged up with weapons, pressing their spears to the sheep-headed person’s body.
Seeing this, the human squad quietly backed away.
The Transparent Tribe elder wanted to rush up and warn them, but it was too late.
The chainsaw flashed, and the sheep-headed person instantly decapitated the group of Transparent Tribe members in front of it.
Seeing the sheep-headed person still acting on its own, the leader trembled with rage.
“Let Prophet Baixiang come out. All the Flesh Tribe here will become his food,” the leader said through gritted teeth, turning to his people.
Then, the mysterious runes on his body began to glow faintly, his clothes fluttered without wind, and the bodies of the Transparent Tribe beside him also began to shine.
Seeing this, the elder hurriedly shouted, “This is our savior, leader, you can’t do this!”
But the leader only replied coldly, “The undying things will ultimately perish.”
As he spoke, the temple began to shake, the ground beneath the spine cracked, and a thick arm burst through the tiles.
“What was that?”
Mo Ling was about to fly back and look below, but the thing underground had already jumped out.
It was a burly giant, covered in flowing transparent slime, who stared at everyone with a ferocious expression.
Long silver hair trailed to the ground, the strands clinging to its body, constantly turning into slime, while more liquid hair oozed from its scalp.
The slime seemed to move slightly, flowing down to the ground and then back up to the giant, forming a cycle.
“What a disgusting smell,” the Flesh Tribe fanned the air before their faces, looking disgusted.
The elder, seeing the giant, quickly said to the human squad, “Run, that’s Prophet Baixiang! You can’t deal with it!”
“What was Prophet Baixiang?”
Though none of them understood, the giant looked dangerous, so everyone quickly retreated to the edge of the temple, trying to escape.
When the giant saw people trying to flee, a strand of hair suddenly shot up, twisting and swelling in the air, transforming into a bird’s head.
The bird flew upward, its body growing as it went, until it had a complete bird’s form.
The bird’s body was bloated, compared to its head it looked like a huge feathered fruit.
Once in the air, the bird’s body exploded, sending countless feathers flying.
Mo Ling hurried to shield the group.
But the feathers didn’t attack; instead, they deftly avoided the cube, flying to the temple’s exits and walls, forming a wall of feathers.
The elder despaired, “That’s the Cloud Nest Bird. We can’t get out.”
A soldier slashed at the feather wall, but the sharp blade couldn’t leave a mark.
Mo Ling tried teleporting the feather wall, but any holes were quickly filled by more feathers, like mist.
The feathers kept swirling, covering the entire temple in a white inner wall, sealing everyone inside.
The Flesh Tribe were also trapped and shouted at the leader, “What are you trying to do?”
The leader replied calmly, “Purify the undying things.”
He was no longer conciliatory, staring coldly at the Flesh Tribe. “Since you came to our village, don’t expect to leave.”
The Flesh Tribe angrily drew their weapons and charged the giant in the center.
The giant sent out another strand of hair, which pierced the ground and then swelled.
A familiar figure appeared.
A red-skinned, horned, winged, muscular Flesh Tribe member.
“A traitor?”
The traitor immediately attacked the Flesh Tribe, and several identical demon-like fighters began to brawl.
The leader watched with satisfaction.
He turned to the sheep-headed person, eyes full of anger.
“It took so much effort to plant that pawn, and you exposed it. You desecrated the temple and slaughtered the Transparent Tribe. What do you want?”
The sheep-headed person ignored him, standing still and staring at the giant.
So it really was a traitor-the Flesh Tribe knew their old enemy well.
Mo Ling realized he’d underestimated these underground races, who had fought for so many years.
If the Transparent Tribe were really so weak, they’d have been wiped out long ago.
Prophet Baixiang must be the Transparent Tribe’s trump card, and even the Flesh Tribe didn’t know much about it.
Looking at the wild-haired giant in the temple, Mo Ling felt an inexplicable fear.
He sensed the giant’s power was far from simple.
