I’m Trapped in a Cube - Chapter 43
The two sides argued endlessly, and Mo Ling couldn’t make sense of it.
But the matter at hand had nothing to do with him; he floated above just to watch the commotion.
The Flesh Tribe people were incredibly strong, wielding small round shields in one hand and one-handed hammers in the other.
Spinning their bodies and flicking their wings, they swept aside several Transparent Tribe attackers, knocking them to the ground, unable to move.
With a push of the shield, any Transparent Tribe member struck was sent flying far away.
Then, turning back, a hammer smashed into the shoulder of an enemy trying to sneak up, instantly caving it in.
These Flesh Tribe people were indeed formidable fighters.
They were also highly experienced, handling all sorts of situations with ease, expertly using their shields and hammers.
Meanwhile, the Transparent Tribe members were clearly a ragtag bunch, fighting with no coordination, just charging blindly.
Not to mention their fragile wooden weapons, which could be snapped by the Flesh Tribe’s wings.
Most of the Transparent Tribe just cowered in the back, too scared to advance.
“This is a complete one-sided rout,” Mo Ling thought.
The Flesh Tribe fighters weren’t even affected by the ongoing shouting match.
If anything, the arguing only made them fight harder.
The Transparent Tribe leader finally realized something was wrong and hurried to stop the fighting.
He told his people to fall back, then requested a proper conversation with the Flesh Tribe.
So it wasn’t all blood feud after all.
Surprisingly, the Flesh Tribe didn’t see through this obvious stalling tactic.
Upon hearing the request for talks, the Flesh Tribe actually stopped attacking, standing still as the Transparent Tribe retreated.
“You should have said so earlier. Attacking us as soon as we came in-what’s that about?” the Flesh Tribe man grumbled.
The leader’s face darkened as he suppressed his anger and asked, “You said we captured a Flesh Tribe person-what do you mean?”
“We were out hunting, and your people suddenly kidnapped one of ours. And you ask me what I mean?” the Flesh Tribe man said angrily.
The leader looked skeptical. “Can you explain in detail?”
The Flesh Tribe man put his weapon back at his waist and began recounting:
“We were hunting outside, not far from your village.”
“We were surrounding our prey when your people suddenly rushed out and took one of our companions.”
“We chased after them, and the direction they fled was right to this village.”
After hearing this, the leader’s suspicion didn’t fade. He pressed, “Why were you hunting outside our village?”
“That’s none of your business,” the Flesh Tribe man said impatiently. “We were tracking prey, and it ran here. What could we do?”
The leader finally stopped questioning and ordered a subordinate to investigate.
Then he turned and asked, “What did the person you saw look like? Are you sure it was someone from our village?”
“We didn’t see clearly, just a figure running into your village. You know we can sense if someone’s Transparent Tribe.”
The leader nodded and told the Flesh Tribe to wait.
Listening to the conversation, Mo Ling realized he’d misunderstood the power struggle in the underground world.
“I didn’t expect the two factions could actually communicate.”
And they wouldn’t attack each other without reason.
It seemed that only non-intelligent creatures fought to the death over tribe.
Intelligent beings still had some instinct for self-preservation, trying to minimize losses-or maybe there was a truce.
Soon, the subordinate returned, shaking his head at the leader.
“We didn’t find the person you mentioned. There are no Flesh Tribe people in the village.”
The Flesh Tribe man started cursing again.
Seeing their anger, the leader compromised, coldly saying, “If you don’t believe us, you can search the village yourselves-but control your urge to kill.”
“No problem.” With that, the Flesh Tribe began swaggering through the village, searching, with the leader following, clearly uneasy.
Before long, the Flesh Tribe came to Captain Su.
“Oh! Flesh Tribe we haven’t seen before-where are you from?” They suddenly became very polite.
“From somewhere else,” Captain Su replied vaguely.
But the Flesh Tribe didn’t mind, chatting amiably, looking nothing like the fierce warriors from before.
“You have the scent of the one who attacked us,” one Flesh Tribe member suddenly said.
“He does too,” he pointed at the elder who’d returned with the squad.
The elder quickly waved his hands, insisting he was innocent.
The leader also asked, “What happened on your way here?”
Hearing the question, the elder’s eyes reddened, and he poured out everything that had happened.
“Sheep-headed person?”
The leader was in disbelief.
At this, the Flesh Tribe man added, “The Transparent Tribe person who attacked us also smelled like lamb.”
Everyone exchanged glances.
“Looks like we’ve found the real culprit,” Captain Su said.
With the culprit’s appearance known, the leader led the Flesh Tribe to search the village more thoroughly-now both sides wanted to find the culprit.
“Why did the sheep-headed person do this?” Mo Ling was even more puzzled.
Its actions seemed to have broken away from the rules of the Red Rope Worm and Ugly Duckling Phenomenon, doing as it pleased.
“If it wanted to kidnap someone, why not just take a Transparent Tribe member?”
The squad discussed the question but found no answer.
“Is it trying to frame someone?” Captain Su guessed. “Kidnap a Flesh Tribe person to the Transparent Tribe village and start a war?”
It wasn’t impossible, but seemed far-fetched.
“The Transparent Tribe are so weak, it’d be faster for it to just kill them itself,” Mo Ling thought.
The sheep-headed person really was out of control.
Even Mo Ling could only barely restrain it.
If these weak Transparent Tribe people met it, they’d be hunted down.
And Mo Ling didn’t believe the sheep-headed person was already smart enough to plot schemes.
It had only just turned from a lamb into a sheep-headed person-surely not so soon?
In the Ugly Duckling records, the odd duck only learned to ambush after much interference from farmers.
As Mo Ling pondered, a commotion came from the direction the Flesh Tribe and leader had gone.
“It’s in the temple!” a Transparent Tribe member shouted.
At the news, everyone rushed to the temple.
