I’m Trapped in a Cube - Chapter 40
Mo Ling was completely helpless against this nearly perverse healing ability.
The Red Rope Worm’s power was fundamentally unsolvable; the only way to deal with it was to bring the two worms together. Keeping it surrounded like this was ultimately futile.
His attacks did nothing but accelerate its evolution.
The soldiers behind him, seeing this situation, also wore expressions of despair.
The sheep-headed person stared intently at the cube, its head tilting slightly, but in this context, Mo Ling only felt it was extremely eerie.
It slowly crouched, and Mo Ling quickly maneuvered the cube to retreat, wary of being attacked.
But the sheep-headed person suddenly leapt into the midst of the humanoid beings. The center of its broad hand split open, and a miniature chainsaw burst from the flesh. With one hand, it delivered an uppercut to the chin of one of the humanoids.
It was the very one who had fired the first arrow!
The chainsaw chain spun rapidly, the sharp blade biting fiercely into the humanoid’s throat and emerging from the crown of the head.
The humanoid trembled, mouth opening uncontrollably, emitting meaningless “huh huh huh” sounds. Blood gushed out, eyes bulged in terror, staring at the sheep-headed person.
As the blood flowed, it gradually turned colorless, and the humanoid, convulsing, stopped breathing.
The sheep-headed person withdrew its arm, the chainsaw dripping with transparent liquid as it slid out. The humanoid collapsed heavily to the ground.
It seemed the spine had been severed, as the body continued to twitch.
The sheep-headed person didn’t look at the fallen humanoid again, but slowly walked toward the edge.
It squeezed past a group of cowering humanoids and leapt into the distance, gradually vanishing into the thick vegetation.
The twitching humanoid on the ground dissolved into transparent liquid, its clothes falling, soaked with moisture.
Not a sound was heard.
The surviving humanoids dared not make a single noise, terrified the sheep-headed person would suddenly return and slaughter them all.
Mo Ling was powerless, so he piloted the cube to follow for a while, memorizing the direction in which the sheep-headed person left, then returned to the group.
The atmosphere in the squad was extremely heavy. The surviving soldiers were covered in their comrades’ blood, eyes wide in disbelief.
“Start cleaning up the bodies, recover weapons and samples,” Captain Su’s tone was clearly dejected.
Li Luo took out cleaning tools and silently began wiping the stains from the cube.
The soldiers said nothing, slowly moving to clean up the scene.
Captain Su stood quietly at the front of the battlefield, clenching his fists.
Beside him, the humanoids seemed to be hesitating about something. After a while, an elder came over.
He walked up to Captain Su and started speaking in Abyssal.
“Thank you for your help. Our Transparent Tribe will forever remember your kindness.” The elder looked frightened, constantly watching the soldiers around him.
Captain Su put on a translator and began communicating with this self-proclaimed Transparent Tribe humanoid.
“When did that sheep-headed person appear? Why did it kill you?” Captain Su asked.
The Transparent Tribe elder thought for a moment, then answered fearfully, “It came just before you arrived. We even fed it when it came, but it immediately started slaughtering us. We don’t know why.”
Captain Su grew angry at this, demanding, “You fed it? You didn’t know what it was and you fed it?”
The Transparent Tribe elder quickly waved his hands in explanation, “Because it’s also a Transparent Tribe member, so we weren’t on guard!”
The elder was clearly terrified of Captain Su, waving his hands in the air.
“It’s also a Transparent Tribe member?” Captain Su was confused.
The elder nodded, “Yes, it is Transparent Tribe.”
Captain Su seemed to realize something and pointed at himself, asking, “Then what tribe am I?”
The Transparent Tribe elder’s expression became suspicious and worried, cautiously replying, “You are… Flesh Tribe.”
Hearing this, Captain Su suddenly looked down at himself, then squatted on the spot-a sudden move that startled the elder into jumping back.
But seeing Captain Su only pulling up grass, the elder returned in confusion.
Captain Su held up two blades of grass: one oozing green pus at the break, the other turning into transparent liquid.
“Which one is Transparent Tribe, which one is Flesh Tribe?”
The Transparent Tribe elder, though puzzled, answered seriously.
He pointed to the grass with green pus, saying it was “Flesh Tribe,” and the other was “Transparent Tribe.”
Upon hearing this, Mo Ling, who had been listening in, instantly understood how these humanoids classified tribes.
Theseus Cell lifeforms, which turn into transparent liquid after death, were called “Transparent Tribe.”
Normal cell lifeforms were called “Flesh Tribe.”
Seeing the elder’s way of classifying, the onlookers also immediately understood.
“What a simple way to divide things,” Captain Su said helplessly.
He looked at the elder again, asking, “Tell me, why did you let your guard down just because it’s Transparent Tribe? We’re not from here, so explain clearly-we won’t hurt you.”
Hearing this, the elder glanced at the people around, then at the cube in the sky, finally relaxing and explaining,
“Because here, Transparent Tribe never attacks each other, and neither does Flesh Tribe; they only attack the other tribe.”
“No matter how weak or mindless the creature, it only shows hostility to the other tribe.”
“Even the little flying Transparent Tribe bugs only nibble on Flesh Tribe plants, and vice versa.”
“So we knew it was Transparent Tribe, so we weren’t alert. But when we saw you, we were scared.”
The elder’s voice grew weaker, still puzzled by the sheep-headed person’s attack.
Hearing this, Captain Su finally nodded and didn’t press further.
“All right, we won’t hurt you. We don’t follow those rules, and that sheep-headed person is from our side. Understand?”
The elder nodded rapidly, most of the fear fading from his face.
He asked Captain Su to wait while he went to inform his people.
Captain Su waved him off, and the elder ran back to his tribe.
“Record all this,” Captain Su instructed his deputy.
Li Luo listened to the exchange while cleaning the cube, her face full of curiosity.
Mo Ling, after hearing this information-packed conversation, began recalling the earlier battle between the bird-eating spiders and red-eyed dragonflies.
It seemed to be a battle between the Flesh Tribe and the Transparent Tribe.
“So that’s why those bird-eating spiders didn’t attack us-we’re also Flesh Tribe.”
He had been puzzled by why the spiders had surrounded the group and then left.
“So this was tribal conflict?”
