I’m Trapped in a Cube - Chapter 257
“When did it change position?”
Mo Ling was certain he had been following that moonlight the entire time.
That dazzling light couldn’t be fake, but the moment he got slightly distracted, the moonlight had completely changed direction.
Refusing to give up, Mo Ling turned around and walked toward what was now behind him.
This time, he focused even more intently on the path ahead.
To ensure his direction was correct, Mo Ling deliberately opened his armor’s map and carefully compared it as he looked.
When encountering terrain that required detours, Mo Ling used his armor’s flight function to go directly over it, following a completely straight line to ensure he wouldn’t deviate from his direction.
However, the more focused he became, the easier it was to get distracted.
Just as Mo Ling was earnestly studying the map, when he looked up, the Moon Altar had disappeared again.
The shadows on the ground suddenly shifted.
Following the direction of the light, he saw the Moon Altar suspended high in another part of the sky.
“It’s still changing?”
However, this time Mo Ling was finally certain it wasn’t his problem.
After fiddling around for a while, a component flew out of Mo Ling’s armor—something like a camera that locked onto the distant Moon Altar.
At the same time, an image appeared inside the armor, showing exactly what the camera was filming.
Looking at the clearly visible Moon Altar in the image, Mo Ling nodded with satisfaction.
“I won’t lose track of it now, right?”
But Mo Ling hadn’t been happy for long when the image suddenly became completely empty.
The component that had originally locked onto the Moon Altar also spun several circles in the air before pointing in another direction.
It changed again?
Now Mo Ling didn’t dare act rashly anymore and stood in place to observe.
Soon, he discovered the pattern of the Moon Altar’s movements.
It wasn’t moving around randomly or changing directions without rules, but appeared according to several specific positions, sometimes appearing here, sometimes appearing there. After going through a cycle, it would return to its original position.
It was as if several points had been predetermined, and the Moon Altar only appeared at these points.
After understanding everything, Mo Ling began thinking about what to do next.
“As long as I go to one of those predetermined points, the Moon Altar will eventually appear.”
Mo Ling decided to first reach one of those positions and wait there.
However, what happened next was beyond Mo Ling’s expectations.
In the sky, multiple Moon Altars began appearing at those predetermined positions.
At first, only two appeared together, but later these positions began continuously spawning Moon Altars, like flashing lights in the sky—sometimes bright, sometimes dark—forming a circle.
The moonlight also came from all directions.
The ones in front had just lit up when moonlight from behind shot over.
Mo Ling felt like he was in a dance hall full of lights, constantly being dazzled by glaring spotlights coming from all directions.
The flashing speed grew faster and faster until the Moon Altars forming a circle froze in the sky, no longer moving.
On the ground, Mo Ling’s shadow became the shape of a flower, blooming faintly with him at its center.
The fog was illuminated unusually bright by that pale moonlight. Light points that looked like small flying insects, whether dust or water droplets, seemed to come alive and began circling around Mo Ling.
The light points flowed with the fog, crashed toward his armor, then suddenly pulled away, circled around, and spiraled through the air.
Countless light points rushed forward one after another. Mo Ling stood in place, surrounded by those light points. In the distant misty fog, there were other light points flowing toward Mo Ling like rivers.
In an instant, Mo Ling felt like he was standing under spotlights, subject to countless gazes.
At the same time, Mo Ling suddenly felt his heart grow cold.
It seemed like countless pairs of eyes in the fog were staring at him.
Those light points moved faster and faster, then suddenly stopped under Mo Ling’s shocked gaze, freezing in mid-air.
The air instantly solidified.
“Was this time standing still?”
Mo Ling immediately remembered the scene that had appeared when he was putting the finishing touches on the little small fry on the Moon Altar before. Now it was happening again.
Moreover, this time the range seemed much larger than before.
Before he could think further, Mo Ling’s armor began emitting faint “crackling” sounds.
It sounded like someone was talking.
Mo Ling quickly stopped all his movements and began listening carefully.
The voice was very weak, seeming very distant, but under the complete silence, it was still quite obvious.
Soon, Mo Ling could make it out, it seemed to be some kind of conversation.
It was merman language!
Gradually, the voice became clearer and clearer, and Mo Ling began to make out the content of the conversation:
“How long has it been?” a voice asked.
“Two hundred years, General. Not much different from the projected time.”
“General?”
“Was that Jeff?”
As the voice gradually grew louder, Mo Ling finally confirmed it was indeed Jeff’s voice, but he didn’t know what they were discussing. Mo Ling could only continue listening.
“Who has the highest authority?” Jeff asked.
“Unknown. It was lost two hundred years ago,” another unfamiliar voice answered.
Lost two hundred years ago?
Didn’t the highest authority just transfer to me?
Mo Ling instantly realized that time might have changed again.
“This is two hundred years later?”
The time when the next Moon Altar appeared?
Looking at the surrounding stagnant fog and light points, Mo Ling was incredibly shocked. What kind of place had he come to?
Or rather, was all of this an illusion?
Like mirage vapor, all traces of the past?
While he was puzzling over this, those voices began conversing again, and Mo Ling could only continue carefully eavesdropping.
“Immortality is still there. It seems two hundred years still isn’t enough time.”
“Yes, General. Our physical bodies have poor learning ability. Those newly born souls are still in a confused stage, and their civilization is very primitive.”
“What about the heritage we left them?” Jeff asked. “Haven’t they been studying seriously?”
“Yes, General. They followed the heritage content completely and held the Sea Moon Ceremony. The Moon Altar’s functions are also completely normal, otherwise we wouldn’t have awakened on schedule. It’s just that time is limited. The heritage we created could only record basic content.”
“Which basic content?” Jeff pressed.
“The island’s various ecosystems, climate… and simple tools, techniques… Technology can’t be achieved overnight. We can only start from the most basic level. They only have two hundred years. If it’s too advanced, they won’t understand.”
“Well done. This time also make the most of our time and leave them more heritage. The heritage format should follow the previous approach, just tell them how to do things, don’t tell them why.”
“Yes, General.”
“You’ve worked hard. First wake up the other tribesmen and let them experience this world again, then continue sleeping.”
“Yes, General. See you in another two hundred years.”
“See you then…”
