“This is why I brought the mermen to the island.”

Bai Zhou sat on the long table in the lecture hall, speaking slowly.

He was clearly talking to Mo Ling, but his pupils had lost focus, as if staring at shadows under the desks.

“Later I bid farewell to the Chali Tribe and set out to find traces of the mermen race, until they caught me and threw me in prison.”

“When they first saw me, they couldn’t even recognize what race I was…”

Mo Ling looked at the somewhat dazed Bai Zhou, his heart full of worry.

When Bai Zhou recounted his experiences, his speech was very chaotic. Sometimes he would be startled and suddenly speak loudly, other times he would mumble to himself, saying words that couldn’t be heard clearly.

His expressions also changed constantly, as if those scenes were reappearing before his eyes.

Even now, Bai Zhou’s body was still trembling slightly, obviously he hadn’t yet emerged from his memories.

Not only that, Mo Ling found he couldn’t distinguish truth from falsehood in Bai Zhou’s words. Those experiences seemed like randomly pieced together fragments, completely without basis.

However, Mo Ling’s attention wasn’t focused on what Bai Zhou was saying.

But rather on his strange movements.

For instance, the little girl who appeared from time to time.

Bai Zhou seemed very clear that those were all illusions, and the logic in his speech was also very clear.

When Bai Zhou spoke, he would always inadvertently glance to his side, as if a short person was sitting there.

While answering Mo Ling’s questions, he would also turn his head slightly to look beside him, then shift his position slightly to the other side.

When he moved, he also always seemed to be avoiding that spot.

Moreover, although the temperature was quite low, Bai Zhou would frequently wipe sweat from his forehead.

Mo Ling had originally thought he could learn from Bai Zhou what had really happened on this island.

Now it was even harder to distinguish truth from falsehood.

Currently, this only person who could provide answers seemed to be not quite normal either.

After confirming that Bai Zhou’s condition had improved slightly, he carefully asked, “That little girl, is she an illusion created by the Relic?”

Hearing Mo Ling’s question, Bai Zhou first paused, then smiled, “Of course not.”

“Those thoughts are actually all mine. There’s no little girl.”

“Of course.” Bai Zhou answered calmly, “My obsession is too heavy, so the Relic follows my thoughts and creates those illusions. I know all this.”

Looking at Bai Zhou’s confused state, Mo Ling didn’t plan to continue questioning.

Thinking of this, Mo Ling could no longer suppress his curiosity.

But unexpectedly, solving some mysteries only led to new mysteries.

Looking at the empty seat beside Bai Zhou, Mo Ling asked seriously again, “Are you really certain there’s no little girl?”

Just as Mo Ling was wondering what to do next, Bai Zhou suddenly broke the silence, “Do you feel like it’s gotten a bit brighter?”

Brighter?

Mo Ling quickly looked around and found that indeed, as Bai Zhou said, the wooden house was much brighter. However, the fog was too thick to tell where the light was coming from.

“Let’s go outside and look.”

After exchanging glances, they hurriedly ran outside.

As soon as they got outside, Mo Ling was startled by the scene before him.

In the distance, there seemed to be a faintly glowing circular light source hanging in the sky.

That light was an eerie white. Even after passing through the thick fog, it was still very conspicuous, like a blurry eye staring fixedly at the entire island.

Not only that, but the light source also seemed to be rotating at high speed. In just a short time, it appeared to have gotten several degrees brighter.

“What is that thing?” Mo Ling asked in shock.

He looked at Bai Zhou and found that Bai Zhou also had a surprised expression.

Could it be that Bai Zhou didn’t know what it was either?

Fortunately, he soon provided an answer.

“It’s the moon,” Bai Zhou said blankly, looking at the light source. “It’s the mermen’s moon! What are they doing?”

The moon?

Looking at that gradually brightening light source, Mo Ling suddenly thought of a familiar object, the Moon Altar.

Because his vision had been limited, Mo Ling had only seen the Moon Altar in the sky on Li Luo’s electronic screen before, and that had been processed and magnified by equipment, very different from seeing it with his own eyes now.

After carefully recalling, Mo Ling finally confirmed that what was hanging in the sky now was indeed the Moon Altar.

“Could this be the Moon Altar from 2,200 years ago?”

How did it appear so suddenly?

No matter how hard Mo Ling thought, he couldn’t understand how the mermen, having just arrived on this island not long ago, could so quickly establish the first Moon Altar. Under the technological blockade of the fog, how did they manage it?

At this moment, Bai Zhou was even more anxious than Mo Ling. Looking at the moon that continued to brighten, he could no longer contain himself.

“I need to go see what’s happening. You should leave this island first. The fog on this island has no effect on you, and this armor can protect you as you leave,” Bai Zhou earnestly instructed.

He patted Mo Ling’s shoulder, “Thank you.”

“Wait!” Mo Ling called out to Bai Zhou, who was preparing to leave. “Let me go with you. We can look out for each other.”

Hearing Mo Ling’s words, Bai Zhou shook his head and said, looking beside him, “Someone is keeping me company. Don’t worry.”

He stood there for a moment, then seemed to suddenly remember something. He began rummaging through his bundle and soon pulled out a piece of tree bark, slapping it into Mo Ling’s hands.

Then he said seriously to Mo Ling, “If you want to help me, there’s actually something more important. Take this, wait for me outside the island, and remember to be careful. After I finish handling things, you can give it back to me.”

After saying this, Bai Zhou plunged into the fog without looking back.

Mo Ling held the tree bark in his hands. Before he could ask what it was, Bai Zhou had already disappeared.

The light from the Moon Altar became increasingly blinding, occasionally flashing suddenly. Mo Ling had wanted to follow Bai Zhou’s footsteps, but after being flashed in the eyes by the moonlight several times, he no longer knew where Bai Zhou had gone.

“Where did he go? So fast.”

Holding the tree bark, Mo Ling stood there dazed.

After realizing that Bai Zhou had indeed disappeared, Mo Ling held the tree bark up in front of him and examined it carefully.

But this tree bark seemed completely ordinary, showing no abnormalities, just like garbage randomly picked up by the roadside.

“Could he be deceiving me?”

Mo Ling belatedly realized that he seemed to have been fooled.

There was no more important matter. Bai Zhou just didn’t want Mo Ling to follow him, so he randomly made up a reason to divert Mo Ling’s attention.

After figuring this out, Mo Ling felt somewhat disappointed, but he quickly perked up.

“Why don’t I just go to the Moon Altar and take a look myself?”

After all, the “moon” in the sky was right there. How could he get lost?

Thinking of this, Mo Ling headed toward the direction of the Moon Altar…

But as he walked, when Mo Ling looked up again, he found the Moon Altar had disappeared.

Looking back, somehow the Moon Altar was already in the sky behind him.

“Huh?”
