“Alright, no need to say more.” Bai Zhou said awkwardly.

“Okay.” Mo Ling was also somewhat embarrassed.

He suddenly realized that he really didn’t know how to achieve immortality. All his understanding was based on shallow guesses made from observing the mermen’s behavior.

“No wonder those fogs completely ignored me.”

Thinking of this, Mo Ling was also puzzled and asked Bai Zhou, “Can those fogs distinguish whether I can achieve immortality or not? Are they alive?”

“It’s not distinguishing, it’s mutual attraction. The closer to immortality, the closer death will be.” Bai Zhou explained, “Step on the shore, and water will seep out from the mud, wetting your boots, unavoidably.”

While speaking, Bai Zhou looked at Mo Ling again, “You’re like someone who’s been standing far away motionless, watching others’ actions clearly, but not knowing how to walk to the shore yourself.”

Hearing Bai Zhou’s vivid metaphor, Mo Ling had a sudden realization.

Who would have thought that “completely not understanding” was actually a good thing.

After breaking off some damaged components from his body, Bai Zhou moved his body and continued urging Mo Ling to advance up the small mountain.

“Here isn’t safe. I’ll take you to a place.”

After saying this, he waved at Mo Ling and turned to walk upward.

Mo Ling didn’t hesitate and followed.

“Where is this?” Mo Ling couldn’t help but ask.

He seemed to have an incredible understanding of everything on this island.

They hadn’t walked far when Mo Ling discovered this mountain’s terrain seemed familiar.

“Where have I seen this before?”

Walking along, when they came to a mountain path, Mo Ling finally recognized it.

This was the mountain that isolated the pseudo-mermen!

However, the current mountain path hadn’t been reinforced and was still a very crude dirt road covered with weeds. If you didn’t look carefully, you couldn’t discover this hidden path at all.

The two followed the mountain path winding around and climbed this not-very-tall mountain.

What Mo Ling didn’t expect was that there was only an unremarkable flat area on the holy mountain, along with a small wooden house.

Many places were very desolate, only the area around the wooden house was kept clean and tidy, as if people came to clean regularly.

He seemed to notice Mo Ling’s confusion.

“Chali Tribe’s holy mountain.” Bai Zhou simply answered.

However, why would Bai Zhou know so much?

Mo Ling looked at Bai Zhou puzzledly. Previously, because of the component on the back of his neck, Bai Zhou would occasionally grit his teeth in pain, but now after Mo Ling’s treatment, his complexion had improved considerably.

He led Mo Ling and pushed open the wooden house door.

“Please enter.”

Upon entering the wooden house, they were greeted by a room like a lecture hall. Several small wooden tables were placed in the center, and an exquisite long table was placed on a platform toward the back of the room.

Bai Zhou looked at that wooden house with an incredibly complex gaze.

Bai Zhou walked to the long table and gently wiped it with his finger.

Faint mist droplets moistened his hand.

“Sigh.”

Bai Zhou let out a long sigh, walked around the long table, sat cross-legged on the platform, then stared blankly at the several small tables below.

Mo Ling looked at the empty small tables, not knowing what Bai Zhou was looking at.

After looking around, Mo Ling also found a small table and sat down cross-legged.

His action made Bai Zhou snap out of his daze.

After wiping his eyes with his hand, Bai Zhou stared at Mo Ling for a long time before coming back to his senses.

Mo Ling wiped the small table in front of him and asked in confusion, “Is this a lecture hall?”

“Yes.”

“Why is there a lecture hall here? And a human lecture hall?” Mo Ling was very confused.

This wooden house, including the architectural style of this lecture hall, was incredibly familiar to him.

Not only that, but the common daily necessities in the room also made Mo Ling seem to see the shadow of someone’s life.

Bai Zhou followed Mo Ling’s gaze around the room and said nostalgically, “I had them build it. To give lectures, you must have a suitable place. You can’t just find a rock to sit on and lecture. That’s the rule.”

“Them?”

“Yes, my students.” Bai Zhou answered calmly, “The Chali Tribe.”

Hearing Bai Zhou’s words, Mo Ling had a sudden realization.

He looked at these small tables, then thought of those Chali Tribe members’ massive bodies. No matter how you looked at it, it was very unsuitable.

“Did they really take you as their master?” Mo Ling still didn’t quite believe it.

“Of course. They all performed the apprenticeship ceremony. They’re my recognized disciples.” Bai Zhou said seriously.

Seeing Bai Zhou so serious, Mo Ling couldn’t continue doubting.

“You can tell me about it now.”

“Alright.”

Bai Zhou seemed to know what Mo Ling wanted to ask. He cleared his throat and began telling him…

“This starts from when I came to the island.”

…

Just like the story Bai Zhou told Jeff.

That fisherman, namely Bai Zhou, came to the island due to a storm and muddle-headedly became the teacher of “immortals.”

At first, Bai Zhou was somewhat fearful, thinking the immortals were testing his spirituality, but gradually he realized that those on this island weren’t immortals, but another race.

A race never seen before.

After learning this, Bai Zhou actually felt relieved.

Because compared to being pursued by a group of “immortals,” being apprenticed to by another race was relatively less pressure.

Moreover, the Chali Tribe was very friendly and studious, obeying Bai Zhou’s words completely. Except for not being human, they possessed all the qualities a good student should have.

Because his ship was damaged, Bai Zhou could only settle down with the Chali Tribe.

At first, only that disciple followed Bai Zhou around like a dog. After he learned many things from Bai Zhou, the disciple taught these things to other Chali Tribe members.

Thus, more and more Chali Tribe members began following Bai Zhou.

For better “teaching effects,” Bai Zhou had the Chali Tribe build him a house to serve as a lecture hall and also as his residence.

As an alchemist beside the emperor, Bai Zhou knew many things: alchemy and medicine-making, observing celestial phenomena, feng shui and divination, fishing and farming…

These were originally his skills for standing beneath the king. Various theories and practices came naturally to him. For these studious students, he also taught everything he knew.

Non-human, in Bai Zhou’s view, wasn’t something important.

As long as they were willing to learn, he didn’t care what they were.

Bai Zhou didn’t have any stubborn ideological prejudices.

The Chali Tribe weren’t human and often asked very strange questions:

“Teacher, why doesn’t this herb work? I feel the effect is very poor.”

“Increase the dosage, put in ten times more.”

“It works now, teacher, it’s taking effect…”

“Teacher, teacher, how did you catch so many fish? I can’t catch this many even with tree roots.”

“Watch carefully, I’ll teach you to make a treasure…”

…

According to the Chali Tribe’s characteristics, Bai Zhou continuously adjusted various prescriptions originally used on humans, saving many Chali Tribe members.

He also taught them to use various tools, greatly improving their hunting and fishing efficiency.

It was also at this time that he suddenly realized his knowledge could not only be used to please the emperor, but could truly save the world.

Those so-called “immortal pills” could really extend these Chali Tribe members’ lifespans and help them resist suffering.

Those “immortal objects” could really enable the Chali Tribe members to accomplish things they previously couldn’t complete.

“Seeking immortals, seeking immortals… is it possible that the immortals we’ve been seeking… are ourselves?”
