“Is this some kind of attack method?”

The fish swarm was quickly divided by the fog, but they didn’t seem to have their vision obstructed.

Soon, Mo Ling understood why.

Inside the armor, as the fog spread, the components on the mermen’s faces began glowing faintly, generating images.

These images were exactly the scenes outside, now projected with perfect clarity inside the armor. Except for the somewhat grayish color, there was no distortion whatsoever.

Not only that, but the images also marked various object outlines: companions, rocks, trees, life forms, suspicious objects…

These outlines were all labeled with names in merman language and marked with different colors, appearing particularly conspicuous in the grayish images.

“So it’s some kind of high-tech tactical eyepiece.”

Mo Ling had a sudden realization.

Although the mermen could still clearly see everything around them, this continuously thickening fog still made them very nervous.

“First return to the fortress. We’ll discuss immortality later. This place might not be safe,” Jeff commanded, and the fish swarm quickly returned along their original route.

Mo Ling and Bai Zhou were also carried by their armor, following behind Jeff.

Currently, the silenced Mo Ling could only follow the fish swarm and continue floating forward.

Fortunately, the mermen hadn’t disabled their armor’s communication functions, and Mo Ling quickly figured out how to operate it.

Seeing Bai Zhou’s dejected appearance, Mo Ling began fiddling with the communication system inside his armor.

He was just trying to show concern for Bai Zhou.

Since seeing those Chali tribe members transform into eel fish, Bai Zhou had maintained that dazed appearance.

He just sat blankly inside the armor like a wooden puppet, allowing the armor to manipulate him, his eyes vacant, seemingly lost in some kind of memory.

When Mo Ling was operating the communication system earlier, he hadn’t found any other options. It seemed to be just a simple rune that could only be turned on or off.

“Why is there no private chat function? Too primitive, isn’t it?”

“Hey hey hey, can you hear me?”

“Don’t mermen ever whisper?”

The sound from his bracelet quickly spread throughout the entire fish swarm. The mermen who had been maintaining vigilance were all startled by Mo Ling’s words and looked at him in unison.

Mo Ling was very annoyed. He had never used the mermen’s communication system and had just wanted to try it, not expecting to activate loudspeaker mode directly.

A nearby merman sternly warned Mo Ling.

“Don’t mess around!”

And promptly muted him.

When Mo Ling tried to use the communication system again, it displayed, “Your account has been banned. Thirty days remaining until unban.”

However, that public loudspeaker announcement also brought Bai Zhou back to his senses somewhat.

He probably realized that Mo Ling’s words were directed at him.

But Bai Zhou was also trapped inside his armor at this moment, without any way to respond.

Fortunately, the fish swarm soon landed at the fortress’s edge.

After landing, the two had free movement time again.

Attempting to control the heavy armor, Mo Ling clumsily approached Bai Zhou’s side.

“Are you alright?” Mo Ling asked with concern.

“Nothing much…” Bai Zhou smiled bitterly, his weak voice coming from the armor.

However, Bai Zhou quickly leaned over and whispered to Mo Ling, “Don’t worry, you’ll be able to escape soon.”

After saying this, Bai Zhou mysteriously withdrew again.

“What did that mean?”

Mo Ling was stunned by Bai Zhou’s words.

“Escape?”

Actually, Mo Ling had no intention of escaping. With his abilities, escaping would be easy.

However, since he had come to this strange place through that pale moonlight, Mo Ling wanted to understand what had really happened on Merman Island.

Why was that Moon Altar so bizarre?

Why did these mermen become what they were later?

Was this current scenario some kind of illusion, or actual time reversal?

Most importantly, Mo Ling wanted to know the secrets about Bai Zhou.

He had originally thought Bai Zhou was just a poor person distorted by a Relic, but unexpectedly there were so many stories behind him.

“Why did he become a pseudo-merman?”

These matters hadn’t been revealed yet, so Mo Ling didn’t want to escape. He just wanted to quietly observe and understand as much as possible.

Besides, even if he really escaped, he could only escape the mermen’s imprisonment, not this strange scenario.

What if this really was time reversal? Would he really have to wait two thousand two hundred years to return to modern times?

Therefore, Mo Ling didn’t dare act rashly now.

He could only wait quietly.

But there seemed to be some situation ahead. The mermen were all gathered in front of the fortress, looking very anxious.

“What’s going on? Aren’t we going up?”

After waiting a long time in front of the fortress, Mo Ling discovered that the mermen hadn’t quickly returned to the fortress as Jeff had ordered. Instead, a group of them surrounded the coiled dragon, continuously inspecting it.

“What happened?”

Mo Ling curiously controlled his armor to approach.

His armor’s movement function also seemed to be a castrated version. It couldn’t move as nimbly as those mermen, walking like a giant doll twisting around, quite comical.

Fortunately, the distance wasn’t far, and Mo Ling also approached those busy mermen.

A wave of arguing voices came from ahead.

“What exactly is your maintenance group doing? Such a big problem with the components, and no one noticed before? Don’t you have damage alerts set up? Why didn’t anyone say anything?”

“We specifically had people inspect after landing! Isn’t this your patrol group’s problem? Something must have attacked the fortress that you didn’t see, which is why the components are having problems now!”

“Nothing attacked the fortress! It’s been here the whole time, very safe!”

“This is what you call safe?”

“Where’s the inscription group? Come help me see if there’s a connection problem here. The runic pathways on both sides aren’t linked, and my operations keep giving errors!”

“Stop looking over there! Come help! You combat group people are useless except for fighting!”

“…”

The mermen were very irritable at this moment, with arguing voices constant, though the work in their hands didn’t stop.

Some mermen controlled armor to fly up and inspect the fortress, some drilled into the fortress interior, and others opened some kind of hatch, seemingly searching for something inside.

Mo Ling also learned about the current situation from these arguments.

“Runic components are malfunctioning? The fortress can’t start?”

They hadn’t gone far, and the fortress that had just been soaring freely in the sky was now broken down.

Mo Ling naturally didn’t know what had happened either.

However, he immediately remembered what Bai Zhou had said to him earlier—

“Don’t worry, you’ll be able to escape soon.”

Why would Bai Zhou know?

Could it be that these component problems were Bai Zhou’s doing?

How did he manage it?
