“Our branch came to the Abyss Third Layer like this and found an island to settle on.”

Mo Ling listened and became even more confused.

Emperor?

Seeking immortals and asking about the Dao?

“When did this happen?”

Looking at the cloth clothing on Bai Zhou, Mo Ling even felt he wasn’t from this era.

However, just then, Mo Ling suddenly thought of the backwards clock on the Moon Altar.

Connecting it to the current bizarre scene, he had a new speculation:

“Did I come to another era?”

Thinking of this, Mo Ling asked Bai Zhou, “What was the name of the emperor who sent you to sea to seek immortals?”

Hearing Mo Ling’s words, Bai Zhou was stunned for a moment, opening his mouth but making no sound, seeming very unwilling to answer Mo Ling’s question.

However, he couldn’t suppress the shock in his heart when he heard this:

“Two thousand two hundred years? The Qin Dynasty?”

But before long, he sighed and answered, “Zheng. Our emperor was called Zheng.”

“Ying surname, Zhao clan, given name Zheng?”

“Correct.” Bai Zhou nodded. “Did people on our island tell you?”

However, when Bai Zhou heard this question, he stopped talking, his mood dropping again, looking dejected.

He retreated into the shadows, just like when Mo Ling first arrived at the prison, completely invisible.

While responding to Bai Zhou, Mo Ling’s heart was already in turmoil.

He had no idea what time he had come to.

Did the mermen from two thousand two hundred years ago remain completely uncivilized?

But looking at the technological level of this prison, it didn’t seem uncivilized at all, it was actually much more advanced.

“How were you captured?” Mo Ling continued asking.

“You weren’t also captured?” Bai Zhou answered matter-of-factly. “They arrest everyone.”

“Why did the mermen arrest you?”

“What else could it be.”

After a simple reply, Bai Zhou stopped responding, lowered his head, and curled up in the corner.

Arrest everyone?

This seemed completely different from the mermen Mo Ling remembered.

The atmosphere immediately became heavy.

Mo Ling didn’t know what he had said wrong. Bai Zhou, who had been so enthusiastic just moments ago, suddenly became like this.

Just as Mo Ling was about to let Bai Zhou calm down for a while, Bai Zhou in the corner spoke again, “It’s about time. They should be coming soon. Don’t say anything, let me handle it.”

They? The mermen?

While he was wondering, the door at the end of the corridor suddenly made a sound. Several fully armed mermen pushed open the door and walked toward the depths of the prison.

These mermen’s attire was also completely different from what Mo Ling remembered. Their bodies were covered with thick runic components that interlocked with each other, forming a set of exquisite armor.

Each component was different in size and shape, but all could fit closely with the mermen’s bodies, as if custom-made for them, extremely well-fitted.

Not only that, but some floating components also surrounded this armor, seemingly serving other purposes, orbiting these mermen like satellites, vigilantly guarding the surroundings.

As soon as they entered the prison, these components scattered and fixed their gaze on every prisoner in the jail.

Including the cell where Mo Ling was located, a component also flew over.

Bai Zhou’s quiet reminder came from behind, “Don’t make any strange moves. Stay away from that thing.”

His tone was extremely tense, as if worried Mo Ling might make some dangerous move toward the component flying at the prison door.

The bewildered Mo Ling could only do as he said and slowly retreat.

However, the component directly merged into the prison bars, passed through them, and continued staring at Mo Ling intently.

The runes inside the component glowed faintly, as if something was brewing.

Seeing this situation, Mo Ling could only stand in place, motionless.

The several mermen in the corridor didn’t linger at other prisons but walked directly to Mo Ling’s prison door.

They waved their hands, and the prison’s iron bars slowly melted away. The floating component also moved to another side but still aimed at Mo Ling.

Looking at the several mermen before him, Mo Ling suddenly recognized the leader.

Although mermen’s appearances were all very similar, long-term interaction could still reveal subtle differences.

“Jeff?” Mo Ling couldn’t help but ask.

That’s right, the leading merman was Jeff.

Mo Ling didn’t know exactly where he had arrived or why he was encountering familiar people.

Was this some kind of illusion, or had time really reversed?

If this was real history, why would there be people who should only appear in the future?

At this moment, Jeff, whose name had been called, didn’t answer. Instead, the several mermen beside him reacted strongly.

“Call him General Jeff!”

They summoned the components around them and quickly surrounded Mo Ling.

Just as they were about to act, Jeff raised his hand and stopped the mermen’s behavior.

“You can speak the merman language?”

As soon as he spoke, Jeff asked such a question.

“Yes.” Mo Ling nodded.

“What race are you?” Jeff continued asking.

“Cube tribe.” Mo Ling’s mind turned quickly, and he directly took the name Bai Zhou had guessed earlier and applied it.

Jeff nodded thoughtfully, “Never heard of that race. It can speak merman language, that’s good…”

After a simple response, Jeff stopped talking.

The current Jeff had a subtle aura of someone in power. Every move revealed nobility, and he spoke calmly and confidently. Except for his identical appearance, he seemed like a different person.

“General Jeff?” Mo Ling recalled what the other mermen had said and formed a speculation.

The current Jeff probably had an unusual status among the mermen.

When he spoke, the surrounding mermen didn’t dare breathe heavily.

It wasn’t until Jeff had been silent for a while that the several mermen made another move.

However, this time their target wasn’t Mo Ling, but Bai Zhou in the corner.

“Come here.”

After a cold summons, Bai Zhou immediately came before the several mermen.

One merman raised his hand, and a component flying in the sky turned and thrust deeply into the back of Bai Zhou’s neck, its handle drilling directly into Bai Zhou’s flesh.

Bai Zhou fell down in pain, then shakily stood up again. Blood flowed freely from the wound, trickling down his back.

Then the component embedded in Bai Zhou’s neck glowed faintly, and the blood quickly coagulated.

Bai Zhou’s face was pale, his lips had lost all color, but he still struggled to stand steady. His body swayed unsteadily, and cold sweat quickly covered his forehead.

When he spoke again, it was in fluent merman language.

“Thank you for the gift, honored ones.”
