Where did the even older Moon Altars go?

At these words, everyone crowded around Li Luo’s electronic screen again, pointing and discussing seriously.

“This should be from two hundred years ago. It doesn’t look that old. Look at the stone blocks on it, there’s not even wear.”

“Not necessarily. I think this is from long ago. These runes are all somewhat blurred! It must have been a very long time.”

“That’s because the runes are glowing, so you think they’re blurred. Glowing things naturally look unclear from this distance!”

“Aren’t there wear marks on these edges too? Look at this, there’s even a hole rotted through.”

“Hey! That’s not wear. That’s a water hole for seawater to pass through, to reduce seawater impact on the building. Our current Moon Altar has them too. Go look for yourself if you don’t believe me!”

“Really?”

“…”

Everyone chattered noisily, arguing among themselves.

In their debate, the pseudo-mermen wouldn’t yield to each other, looking at that Moon Altar on the electronic screen with various opinions.

“You all stop arguing first! Look over there, what’s that!” someone reminded, pointing tremblingly toward another direction.

Everyone quickly looked over and were stunned speechless by the scene before them.

Until someone raised their head to look at the sky, then suddenly froze, staring wide-eyed.

“There’s not just one! Look over there, there’s another one!”

“Still another one?”

After a long time, someone said blankly:

“There are two moons!”

At this moment, everyone realized these Moon Altars weren’t trying to disguise themselves as moons, nor would they follow any principle of “there’s only one moon.”

The moons in the sky, or rather Moon Altars, weren’t just one. In the high sky behind the thick fog, other Moon Altars were hidden.

They simply flew up to the sky for no reason whatsoever.

“No, not just two, look there, there’s still another!”

Whispered discussions rose again, with confused debates emerging endlessly.

“This should be a more ancient Moon Altar.”

The runes were still clearly visible, but the light emitted by the runes was very weak.

Li Luo aimed the camera at that dim Moon Altar, and the scene on it could be seen clearly.

“Can it still be preserved so well? Merman Island is only so big—where were they all hiding before?” Everyone looked incredulous.

These Moon Altars floating in the sky emitted different amounts of light. Some were very bright, others very dim, hiding in the clouds and mist where their forms couldn’t be seen clearly.

Despite everything happening becoming increasingly fantastical, the facts were right before their eyes.

“Is that from two thousand years ago?”

Until someone pointed in another direction, shocked.

“One, two, three, four… ten!”

After repeated confirmation, everyone determined the number of Moon Altars currently in the sky.

“There are ten moons!”

“Jeff, what exactly is this Moon Altar for?” someone finally couldn’t help but ask.

“I don’t know.” Jeff also looked bewildered, staring blankly at the sky.

“Did the Great Chieftain tell you what would happen after the Moon Altar was completely set up? Is this normal?”

Jeff still shook his head.

“You should go ask quickly. Maybe the Great Chieftain didn’t anticipate such things either.”

Hearing such a suggestion, Jeff immediately stood up, preparing to head toward the village.

But he had just stood up when he froze in place.

“Do you hear any sound?” he suddenly asked.

“What sound?”

“A buzzing sound.”

The previously chattering crowd immediately quieted down, listening carefully.

“There really seems to be some.”

A faint buzzing came from beneath their feet.

A pseudo-merman summoned water current tentacles and placed them on the ground, quickly reaching a conclusion, “It’s coming from the runes.”

“Runes make sound too?”

Everyone focused their attention on the runes, only to discover the current runes were somewhat different.

Under the moonlight’s illumination, the runes’ interiors were trembling slightly. Fine dust slowly drifted up with the sea wind, becoming conspicuous white specks.

“Why does it feel like the moonlight is getting brighter?” a pseudo-merman asked, shielding his eyes.

Only then did everyone realize that in just this short time, the moonlight had indeed become much brighter.

The fog even appeared much thinner under the moon’s illumination.

But Jeff looked at the moon in the sky, then stared at the runes beneath his feet, with a strange expression.

He crouched down, touched the carved marks with his hand, then rubbed a few times with two fingers. Fine dust fell from his hands, drifting away with the sea wind.

After doing all this, Jeff spoke with a trembling voice, “It’s not that the moonlight became brighter—it’s that our Moon Altar beneath our feet is glowing.”

At these words, everyone looked down at their feet.

“Should we run?”

“I feel it’s already too late. Look over there.”

A wall of moonlight suddenly rose from the distant fog.

The light wall swept from another edge of the Moon Altar along the runic lines. Dust flew up from the trembling runes, as if carried by the erupting light wall.

The entire Moon Altar’s vibration became increasingly obvious, and the buzzing sound kept approaching.

Everyone immediately straightened up, vigilantly watching that rising light wall.

“What is that?”

“Moonlight?”

“Could it be that our Moon Altar beneath our feet will also rise to the sky?”

Everyone wanted to flee, but the light wall had already surrounded them in an instant.

“Jump into the sea?”

“No! Those Decay-eaters should still be there. The sea is more dangerous!”

In an instant, everyone at the Moon Altar’s edge had fallen into a dilemma.

No one had expected all this to happen so quickly.

The moonlight wall was like a long snake, coiling as it attacked, moving faster and faster. No one knew what would happen if they touched that dazzling light.

However, Mo Ling’s attention wasn’t on that moonlight wall at this time.

He was still staring at the text on that platform.

The text representing “clock.”

The cross in the center was violently shaking, with dust fixed in the air, just like the time-frozen scene Mo Ling had seen before.

Not only that, but the little small fry circling the cross was swimming counterclockwise with great effort, constantly threading between the cross.

Like continuously flashing slides, each flash would change the little small fry’s position.

Frame after frame.

Clearly each time it was fixed, the little small fry looked like strokes deeply carved into the platform, showing no trace of movement whatsoever.

But after the moonlight flashed, it had already arrived at the next place.

Mo Ling watched for a long time before realizing that wasn’t an illusion.

“It really is moving!”

Not only that, but as the vibration became increasingly obvious, the moonlight flickered faster and faster, and the little small fry’s position changes became more and more frequent.

“Backwards hands, reappearing Moon Altars, what does this all mean?”

Mo Ling was in pain. He could clearly understand these characters and precisely detect the Moon Altar’s abnormalities, but everything on this Moon Altar was like the layers of fog on Merman Island, he simply couldn’t see the truth.

In the flickering light, Mo Ling felt dizzy and nauseous.

The little small fry changed position frame by frame, and his vision kept becoming hazy.

That abnormal light stimulation made Mo Ling feel sick, and he could no longer stare at the flickering text.

He quickly withdrew his gaze and looked at the others.

While he had been dazed, the moonlight wall had already engulfed everyone at the Moon Altar’s edge.

At this moment, they were all bathed in moonlight, staring straight ahead as if they had seen something terrifying.

Dust was fixed in the air.

Above the Moon Altar, everything was pale white.

Time stopped again…
