I’m Trapped in a Cube - Chapter 22
Chapter 22: Outpost
“Bone Breaker?”
This imposing title truly piqued Mo Ling’s curiosity.
Following Captain Su, they soon arrived at an entrance beneath the high wall.
The entrance extended deep underground, and as they descended, Mo Ling realized it was a bunker-like underground space.
Not the kind of maze-like air-raid shelter, but a large-scale underground bunker capable of housing many people and supplies.
There was a hidden world beneath the high wall!
Mo Ling had thought the outpost would be similar to the Seventh Monitoring Station, but he hadn’t expected such a concealed military facility.
As soon as everyone entered the outpost, an alarm sounded.
What happened? Was it because of us?
Mo Ling’s doubts were quickly dispelled as a soldier rushed up to Captain Su.
“Captain Su, another beast tide is coming!”
Captain Su said calmly, “They’re getting more frequent. Deploy as usual.”
“Yes!”
Captain Su ordered the soldiers behind him to return to their posts. Once everything was arranged, he turned to Li Luo.
“I need to handle the local biological anomaly. You can stay here for now.”
He was about to leave.
But Li Luo stopped Captain Su. “A biological anomaly? Can I come along and observe?”
Captain Su thought for a moment, looked at the cube behind Li Luo, and nodded.
“You can, but you must ensure your own safety and not interfere with the other soldiers.”
Li Luo quickly agreed.
Following Captain Su to the entrance leading inside the high wall, they saw many soldiers already lined up and ready.
At Captain Su’s command, the soldiers split into squads and efficiently exited the entrance.
When Li Luo followed the entrance up to the surface, she saw the squads skillfully surrounding and attacking various aberrant beasts.
Inside the high wall, Li Luo also took out her recording device, ready to document the biological riot.
Captain Su just glanced at her and did not stop her.
Through the device, Mo Ling noticed something strange-the rampaging creatures weren’t all the same species.
Some squads were besieging a calf-like creature with eight legs.
The creature looked small but was incredibly strong, tossing nearby soldiers aside until it was finally trapped and killed by the squad.
Other soldiers, wielding fishing rod-like weapons, splashed blue paint on their targets and then cast the rods.
The end of the rod suddenly opened into a large blue net, trapping a duck-like creature in midair, and the rest of the squad attacked.
Another creature looked like a carp, flopping on the ground, water constantly gushing from its body, but to no effect.
These bizarre beasts were all different species, as if a zoo had been left open and all sorts of rare animals had escaped.
The soldiers were clearly experienced in such situations, quickly subduing each rampaging beast.
The chaotic battlefield was divided into small zones, and the soldiers skillfully surrounded and dispatched the creatures.
Captain Su watched calmly from behind, not taking action himself.
However, even after all the beasts were killed, Captain Su kept a close eye on the forest behind them.
“Was there more?”
Sure enough, before long, a worm-like creature wriggled out from the trees.
The worm’s body was ringed with spiral grooves, and from the gaps sprouted red human arms.
The arms struggled outward, as if people were trapped in the grooves.
Seeing the worm, the soldiers all backed away.
But the worm’s seemingly clumsy body suddenly contracted, then shot out like lightning, sweeping toward several soldiers near the woods.
No human could outrun a monster like this. The soldiers who couldn’t dodge were instantly grabbed by the worm’s arms.
Before they could even cry out, they were wrapped in countless arms, crushed into the grooves like snapped sugarcane, leaving only two arms sticking out, still twitching and struggling.
Faced with this, even the bravest soldiers couldn’t help but flee.
The worm surged forward, grabbing at the retreating crowd.
But this time, it didn’t succeed.
Captain Su had already charged at the creature as it emerged from the woods, now blocking its path.
With a swift lunge, he crouched and a flash of white light cut through the worm’s side-its arms were severed at the root, leaving smooth stumps.
Looking at Captain Su, Mo Ling saw that the weapon used to cut the worm’s arms was actually a claw!
Long, bony claws extended from the bandages on Captain Su’s fingers, blood seeping through the wrappings.
The wounded worm didn’t react, just turned and grabbed at Captain Su with its other arms.
But before it could reach, Captain Su sliced them all off.
The worm seemed to realize its arms were useless against Captain Su.
So it contracted its body again, springing forward like a coiled spring.
Captain Su raised his arms in front of him, and two sharp bone plates suddenly jutted from his forearms.
Though knocked back several steps by the worm’s charge, the bone spikes stabbed deep into its body.
But the worm, unfazed by pain, suddenly grabbed Captain Su with its rear arms, trapping him in a cage of flesh and bone, leaving no room to breathe.
The arms squeezed inward, about to crush Captain Su and force him into the spiral grooves.
But then, blood beaded across Captain Su’s body, and countless bone spikes burst forth like a porcupine, stabbing deep into the worm.
The red arms were snapped by the thick bone spikes, and the worm could no longer restrain Captain Su.
The ribs shot straight out, pinning the worm in place. Captain Su freed his hands, the bone plates rapidly extending into a half-human-tall white bone blade.
He slashed down, cleaving the worm like soft clay, splitting it in two.
The worm collapsed heavily, its twisted arms slowly releasing Captain Su.
Captain Su’s bones retracted, leaving only torn bandages and wounded flesh.
He panted, eyes fixed on the worm’s corpse.
Just as everyone thought it was over,
The grooves on the worm’s corpse suddenly expanded.
The grooves stretched, and the two halves became two identical worms!
Revived, the two worms split left and right, flanking Captain Su.
Faced with this, Captain Su had no immediate counter, and could only leap back, dodging their attacks.
