I’m Trapped in a Cube - Chapter 207
Official efficiency was very high. The next morning they issued a notice that people could go out, but still reminded residents to pay attention to safety.
So Li Xiangyi again began pulling Li Luo around Oasis City.
Mo Ling knew that Li Xiangyi was weaving her web throughout Oasis City at this time.
The empty shuttle behind her kept spinning, with invisible silk threads covering all the places she walked.
“How did you find my room?” Li Luo was also very puzzled. Early in the morning, Li Xiangyi had knocked on her room door.
Although it was just across the hall, Li Xiangyi, who had lost her directional sense, shouldn’t have been able to find it.
Li Xiangyi didn’t hide it either, pointing to the constantly spinning shuttle behind her and explaining, “I used silk threads to mark places I want to go. I just need to follow the silk threads to find them. It’s the Relic’s function.”
“So I went to find you as soon as I woke up. Wasn’t it too early? My perception of time isn’t very sharp either.”
“It’s fine,” Li Luo said sleepily.
Oasis City had already resumed operation. Some shops had even opened, selling things while organizing.
Li Xiangyi was like a curious child, wanting to go into any place she saw for a walk.
“I need to go in and mark this place. I might need to come here in the future.”
“This place doesn’t allow random entry. Please go elsewhere for sightseeing,” the staff at the entrance stopped Li Luo and the other person.
She even wanted to get into the shops’ storage rooms, almost getting kicked out by shop owners, finally having to hastily explain her Relic and apologize repeatedly.
Later she also wanted to run into the office building where people were working, but was stopped for not having a work ID.
However, just as the two were about to leave, they were called back.
“I was just thinking of notifying you two to come over. What a coincidence.”
The two turned back to see that it was actually the suited glasses-wearing man they had encountered when first arriving at Oasis City.
Indeed a coincidence.
“Come in with me first. I’ll inform you of the Black Tower investigation results.”
Li Luo and Li Xiangyi exchanged glances and followed him.
After entering the office building, they discovered that every staff member here was very busy. Oasis City’s crisis affected everything, and it seemed the aftermath would continue for a long time.
This time the glasses-wearing man directly brought the two to a small conference room.
The glasses-wearing man was straightforward, directly handing electronic screens to both Li Luo and Li Xiangyi.
“You know that Oasis City has had too many things happen lately, but fortunately our investigation team has already set out for the Black Tower ahead of schedule. These are the investigation results.”
The electronic screens mostly showed the Black Tower’s current status, as well as confirmation of Li Luo’s report, and of course various video materials.
“The cleanup over there still needs quite a few people, but Oasis City is also short-staffed now. The follow-up processing will take a long time.”
“But you can rest assured that the corresponding reward will be directly deposited into your identity account, or if you have any other requests, I can also help you apply,” the glasses-wearing man said patiently to Li Luo.
Li Luo thought for a moment and answered, “Can I get a ship ticket?”
“You want a ship ticket?” Hearing Li Luo’s request, the glasses-wearing man was stunned.
Hearing this, the usually crisp and efficient glasses-wearing man now hesitated, staring at Li Luo with some suspicion for a long time.
“Do you know some inside information?”
But his question left Li Luo stunned, “Inside information?”
“You don’t know?” The glasses-wearing man found it hard to believe. “If you don’t know, why do you want a ship ticket?”
“Don’t you need a ship ticket to go to the Abyss Third Layer?” Li Luo said in confusion.
“You just simply want to go to the Abyss Third Layer?”
“Of course,” Li Luo was even more puzzled.
The glasses-wearing man looked at Li Luo’s confused expression for a long time before finally breathing a sigh of relief.
“It seems you really don’t know. I thought that matter had already spread. The officials don’t want this thing to ferment too quickly, especially since Oasis City just got through a crisis.”
He picked up his electronic screen and transmitted a document to both of them.
“Look at this yourselves, but don’t spread it around.”
While speaking, the glasses-wearing man also walked to the conference room door and closed it.
Li Luo opened the document the glasses-wearing man had sent:
“Notice Regarding Oasis City Port Opening Work.”
Port?
Mo Ling on the side looked at this document, completely confused.
“What does Oasis City have to do with a port?”
Could it be that they were building a port on that saltwater lake outside? What use would that have?
But soon, the content in the document dispelled Mo Ling’s confusion.
…
There were many ways to get from the Abyss Second Layer to the Abyss Third Layer.
Some ruins would connect the two layers. By passing the trials of these ruins, one could directly reach the third layer.
Or by passing through certain strange zones, one could also cross the barrier between the two layers.
One could also use some Relics to directly enter the third layer…
But some of these methods were too dangerous with too much uncertainty, some could only allow single persons to pass, some consumed too much and could only serve as pathways for a small number of people to enter the Abyss Third Layer.
When first exploring the Abyss, these immature cross-layer methods caused many unnecessary sacrifices.
So, after continuously understanding the Abyss’s characteristics, people created a safe and fast cross-layer method—
Sand ships.
After researching the Abyss Second and Third Layers, researchers discovered that the second and third layers were inseparably connected.
Like the relationship between sea and beach.
The two were “interlaced.”
Sometimes waves would cover the beach, sometimes the beach would emerge from the water.
The separation between Abyss Second Layer and Abyss Third Layer wasn’t great.
Researchers initially thought that to go from the second to the third layer, they just needed to find positions that would be covered by waves, then follow the waves back to the sea after they came up.
It sounded simple, but such positions were hard to find.
Although they used sea and beach to describe the interlacing phenomenon between the two, the actual spatial relationship between them wasn’t so simple.
The “coastline” wasn’t an actually existing “line,” but rather a jumping “surface” uniformly distributed in space.
It would appear anywhere in the Abyss Second Layer—possibly in some ruins, possibly in some monitoring stations.
These monitoring stations that could connect to the Abyss Third Layer were called “ports” by people.
In the initial conception, these ports would all be swept to the Abyss Third Layer by waves, then surface again at certain times, returning to the Abyss Second Layer.
But it actually wasn’t like that.
For many years, the positions of these ports hadn’t changed.
This also puzzled researchers greatly.
Finally, after continuous trial and error, they gradually figured out why.
The reason was simple:
When waves and beach interlaced, the waves were on top and the beach was below.
But the Abyss was reversed, the Abyss Second Layer was sand, the Abyss Third Layer was sea.
Sand on top, sea below.
So they had gotten it wrong from the beginning about what each represented.
To descend to the Abyss Third Layer, they shouldn’t wait on the beach for waves to come up.
Instead, they should ride the sand waves and rush toward the ocean!
