The illusions brought by the mirage vapor gradually disappeared.

But the way they disappeared was somewhat strange.

Mo Ling discovered that the entire illusory world was moving—moving at high speed.

As if something was dragging it.

High-rise buildings and objects flew rapidly toward him, then passed through his body and flew backward.

These fictional things also kept becoming blurred, melting into twisted rainbow light like candles.

“What’s happening?”

Could it be that some resident had made a wish to the little sprite for some Relic that could destroy illusions?

Mo Ling could only stay in place, watching everything around him turn into rainbow light.

Finally, he saw the scene outside that rainbow light.

Looking toward the direction where the fierce wind was coming from, the things outside the rainbow light slowly became visible.

That was continuously moving sky.

Oasis City was in the air, which meant the Spiral Turtle had already taken flight and was now crashing toward the sea!

This was exactly the scene from the Spiral Turtle’s wish, happening step by step right now.

Mo Ling instantly understood—it wasn’t that something had destroyed the illusion, but that the mirage vapor had been blown away!

The entire Oasis City was already moving at high speed through the air, and the wind had scattered the mirage vapor within the city.

But due to certain protective wishes, Oasis City still maintained its original appearance, and the people inside felt nothing unusual.

That was a huge crack that tore through the sky. On the other side of the crack was a deep blue, so blue it was almost black.

Seawater gushed out from the crack under pressure, like a waterfall, pouring into the desert.

The Spiral Turtle was now carrying the entire Oasis City—there was simply no way to resolve this.

Just then, the little sprite beside him seemed to see Mo Ling’s worry and comforted him, “Nothing will happen to Oasis City. Don’t worry.”

As the mirage vapor covering Oasis City was blown away, the residents’ figures also began to appear. They all noticed this terrible predicament.

Mo Ling looked at the little sprite that had just returned to normal, somewhat incredulous.

Mo Ling looked at the scene before him, very surprised, and could only look toward the little sprite, “What Relic did you give the Spiral Turtle?”

“A Relic that can swim in the air,” the little sprite answered.

“Isn’t it a Relic that tears open cracks?”

“That was torn open by itself. It originally had that kind of power.”

Hearing this, Mo Ling didn’t know what to do. He had originally wanted to close the crack, but it seemed this wouldn’t work.

At this moment, Mo Ling seemed to understand the little sprite’s behavior.

Thinking of the little sprite’s recent actions, Mo Ling suddenly realized something.

“You divided yourself throughout the entire Oasis City just to create these protective wishes?”

“I didn’t create them. The people of Oasis City created them. I’m just helping them fulfill them,” it said calmly.

“Those who truly want to protect Oasis City—their wishes will all happen in the future. This is the only thing I can do.”

The little sprite looked at the shocked Mo Ling and told him about its plan:

As a being that could glimpse the future, the little sprite had long known this day would come.

Even if the little sprite hadn’t helped the Spiral Turtle fulfill its wish, the Spiral Turtle would eventually crawl out of the pit, and the destruction would be even greater.

The Spiral Turtle wasn’t dead and had been accumulating strength, but the people of Oasis City didn’t know about this.

Even if they knew of the Spiral Turtle’s existence, there was no way to resolve it.

They couldn’t kill the Spiral Turtle, nor did they dare gamble with Oasis City’s safety to attack the Spiral Turtle.

If they couldn’t kill the Spiral Turtle, then they could only choose another way to save Oasis City—protect Oasis City.

But such wishes had never appeared.

Oasis City only let children make wishes, and their wishes were mostly very simple, without such grand and specific wishes.

Of course, Oasis City would occasionally send some adults to make wishes, but most of them were to test the Wishing Fountain’s stability, and these people’s wishes weren’t so precise either.

Protecting Oasis City—such a wish sounded simple, but it required various specific components:

Protecting buildings from being destroyed.

Protecting personnel from casualties.

Preventing gravity and airflow effects from the Spiral Turtle’s movements.

Eliminating earthquake effects.

…

If it was just a broad concept, it couldn’t protect Oasis City.

Various accidents would occur.

But because of this, obtaining such wishes was extremely difficult, especially when the wishers were all children.

Candy, toys, and pretty clothes were their favorite things, not protection.

The little sprite waited for a long time but couldn’t gather enough wishes to protect Oasis City.

Wishes were abstract and conceptual, not concrete, and what could truly protect Oasis City could only be specific “settings.”

“I realized the limitations of wishes,” the little sprite said somewhat dejectedly.

It had thought wishes were omnipotent, but they couldn’t even accomplish protecting Oasis City.

“So I had to expand the number of wishers, then use various similar details to piece together the specific ‘settings’ for protecting Oasis City.”

The little sprite finally decided—to weave a final wish itself.

As long as it fell within the scope of “wishes,” the little sprite could manipulate it, slightly changing the way wishes were fulfilled to gather the corresponding conditions.

For example, if someone wanted to protect their family’s safety, the little sprite would expand the scope of their “family,” even extending the concept of family to their neighbors and friends.

The same method was also used by the little sprite for wishes to protect their “homeland.”

Of course, many wishes were pieced together only after the little sprite divided itself.

Speaking of this, Mo Ling couldn’t help but ask, “How did you divide yourself?”

This seemed to have nothing to do with wishes.

“Using mirage vapor to divide,” the little sprite explained.

Their race was essentially a mass of constantly spreading golden light that needed to attach to liquids.

The most common was water.

Wishing fountains and wishing pools were the external manifestations of their race.

Humans had once treated their race’s wish-granting properties as properties of containers, so wish-granting “holy grails” appeared.

Actually, what could grant wishes wasn’t the holy grail, but the liquid within it.

Old Xu sealing the fountain was also part of the little sprite’s plan.

It could naturally leave the fountain and attach to the spreading mirage vapor.

Mirage vapor was also liquid.

Therefore, it could spread with the mirage vapor throughout the entire Oasis City, letting every resident complete their wish.

However, because its power was too dispersed, it could only set a wish-granting “program” for each clone. These clones had little intelligence and were prone to errors.

The little sprite understood humans well. To prevent people from seeking personal gain, it set up many harsh “punishments.”

From very early on, it had been testing this program, hoping to make it more stable.

However, the more it divided, the lower the intelligence became, and some frenzied clones eventually appeared.

But this was all to expand the number of wishers. The little sprite had no choice—if it didn’t do this, it couldn’t gather enough wishes.

Dispersing as much as possible, giving each resident a little sprite clone, was the only way to make the protective wishes more specific.

But when its plan was halfway through execution, it was interrupted by Mo Ling…

The little sprite looked toward the constantly approaching crack, “Still missing one wish, one specific wish.”

“What wish?”

“A wish for Oasis City to land safely.”
