I’m Trapped in a Cube - Chapter 155
These creatures in the sandstorm didn’t seem as brutal as described in the records.
Nor did the scene of leaving nothing alive in their wake occur.
After this whale left, other whales kept appearing. When they saw the sticky sand on the cactus, they didn’t feed again but turned to look for other targets.
That sticky sand wasn’t just protection, it was also a marker, proving this plant had already been fed upon by their kind.
Like whales on Earth, they were very gentle. They showed no interest in the Cube, which obviously had no moisture, just examining it curiously for a while before leaving directly.
Except for one small whale.
It circled around the Cube, seemingly looking for a suitable place to take a bite.
But after searching around, the metal cube before it left it very confused, it probably didn’t understand what this thing was either.
It would occasionally rub against the Cube, apparently studying the Cube’s material.
Mo Ling was made restless by this small whale. Coincidentally, he saw the small half-bottle of mineral water left over in the Cube.
“Perfect for an experiment.”
Loosening the bottle cap, Mo Ling teleported this water to the top of the Cube.
The small whale was instantly attracted by the suddenly appearing water bottle, excitedly circling around it.
It carefully touched the water bottle, accidentally knocking off the loosened cap, and clear water flowed out from the bottle mouth.
The small whale immediately rushed up thirstily and drank all the flowing water clean, then hurriedly spat out some sticky sand, plugging the bottle mouth tightly to prevent the water inside from continuing to flow out.
After doing all this, it excitedly made that long sound.
They really were just looking for water…
Not only that, these sand-stone creatures seemed to need very little water, were very gentle with their feeding targets, and their behavior was completely incompatible with their huge bodies.
Just then, the small whale also discovered Li Luo hiding behind the Cube, and it began trying to burrow under the Cube.
“What is it doing?”
The small whale’s strange behavior caught Mo Ling’s attention.
“Could it be they needed more than just water?”
After the small whale discovered its strength was limited, it began calling out. Melodious sounds echoed in the sandstorm.
Before long, many whales swam over. They were of various sizes. After arriving, they circled around the Cube, apparently discussing something.
Then the small whale led its companions in lifting the Cube and the dazed Li Luo, swimming upward.
Some whales supported the Cube and Li Luo, while others formed circles around them, blocking the incoming wind and sand.
In this violent sandstorm, Mo Ling actually felt a long-missed tranquility.
Soon, a ray of sunlight pierced through the darkness.
The whales had actually brought the Cube and Li Luo to the very top of the sandstorm. Below was an endless sea of wind and sand. These whales spun happily, as if they had done a great deed.
Mo Ling immediately understood.
“They were rescuing people!”
These whales made of sand, just like whales on Earth, had the instinct to save humans, spontaneously lifting humans to the sea surface.
And here, the sea surface was above the sandstorm!
Below was the churning sandstorm, above was the clear sky. This group of whales surrounded the Cube, occasionally spouting some sand that had lost its moisture from above their bodies.
What marvelous creatures.
Not only that, the small whale led its companions swimming toward the rear of the sandstorm, as if wanting to carry the Cube and Li Luo outside the sandstorm.
Long sounds rose and fell one after another. Though Mo Ling couldn’t understand, he could feel the liveliness within this sandstorm.
At this moment, a deep and melancholy sound came from below.
Mo Ling quickly looked down to see a huge whale conversing with its companions. Its body was larger than the surrounding companions, and its form was very clear, probably a rather old one.
In the mournful whale song, this old whale’s body slowly blurred, sand fell from its body, and its movements became increasingly sluggish. Its swaying tail began to stop.
Because its whole body was wet sand, it didn’t disperse quickly but slowly fell in the sandstorm, sinking into the sea of sand.
That wet sand fell into the Disorderly Dunes, and the moisture within scattered, irrigating those plants that had been fed upon.
A large expanse of dry and barren land was covered by wet sand, moisture seeping into deep root systems, like a heavy rain.
A group of whales spontaneously surrounded this wet land. They didn’t absorb the moisture here but sang whale songs, spouted sand, and continued wandering in the overwhelming sandstorm.
Small whale calves emerged from the wet sand. After looking back at the land where they were born, they followed the group, swimming toward the front of the sandstorm.
The calves curiously followed behind their elders, learning how to feed and make markers.
When whales fall, all things flourish.
This was their life cycle…
The sandstorm never ceased, and this cycle would continue forever.
Mo Ling’s heart was tremendously shaken.
“Are other sandstorms like this too?”
Perhaps other sandstorms contained different creatures. There were far too many marvelous creatures in the Abyss, this was just one corner of it all.
Soon, the whale group reached the rear of the sandstorm.
Before leaving the sandstorm, they began descending, placing the Cube and Li Luo on the ground, then quickly swam away, continuing to chase the sandstorm.
The wind and sand gradually disappeared, leaving only wet sand covering the ground.
This didn’t look like having experienced a sandstorm at all, but rather like a long-awaited heavy rain.
The surviving plants were covered with crystalline dewdrops, this moisture was enough for them to live in the Disorderly Dunes for a long time.
Some animals hiding underground slowly crawled out and climbed onto plants to lick the moisture.
After the sandstorm, it became even more vibrant with life.
Mo Ling had thought about the dangers he might encounter in the sandstorm, worried about unknown phenomena occurring, but he never expected to witness such a scene.
Li Luo was also very shocked. The sandstorm had blocked her vision. From the moment she was lifted by the whales, she had remained vigilant, pressing tightly against the Cube.
She never expected the sandstorm to pass so easily.
She took out a handkerchief and began wiping the dust covering the Cube, not minding that she was also covered in sand and dust.
Only after cleaning the Cube did she begin tidying herself up.
Countless grains of sand were mixed in her clothing, it took great effort to finish organizing.
Then she began determining their current location.
Fortunately, the direction hadn’t deviated too much. The distance to Oasis City had even shortened by more than half, it seemed that group of whales had carried them very far.
“I didn’t expect to arrive so soon.”
Li Luo also took out the storage device Bai Zhou had given her to check it. After finding no problems, she breathed a sigh of relief.
Mo Ling was somewhat curious and asked through the electronic screen, “After reaching Oasis City, how will they handle the Black Tower situation?”
“They’ll probably send people to clean up the corpses, then seal and abandon the Black Tower monitoring station. When this kind of distortion incident occurs, for safety considerations, they probably won’t be able to station people there again for a long time,” Li Luo answered calmly.
Mo Ling could understand this, but he thought of Martin, who had helped with the correction plan.
Would he continue to be wanted? Mo Ling was curious how the officials would define Martin’s actions.
So Mo Ling continued asking, “What about Martin?”
Looking at the question on the electronic screen, Li Luo showed a confused expression.
“Who is Martin?”
