“Next, the leg.”

……

“The abdomen.”

“The heart.”

“You can see that some non-human structures have already formed at the heart.”

Bai Zhou dissected as he explained, while Dr. Li gritted his teeth, using runes to heal his wounds.

But to let Bai Zhou see his internal structure, he would often interrupt the rune’s healing…

“Dr. Li, are you feeling all right?”

No response.

Bai Zhou continued, opening Dr. Li’s skull, revealing another abnormal organ, though it was very well hidden.

Bai Zhou placed the bloody organs on a tray and held them up to the camera.

“There are also abnormal structures in the brain, which may affect the thinking of those distorted.”

“……”

“Dissection complete. The distortion in the Black Tower is confirmed as an organic lesion, not a mental one, just as Dr. Li previously suspected.”

“This also matches the strange shadows seen during body scans.”

Bai Zhou held up images showing multi-angle scans of the strange organs.

Just then, the operating room door was suddenly kicked open.

The tray of organs was knocked to the floor as a crowd rushed in, trampling the strange organs underfoot.

Squeezed to the operating table, the leader finally noticed the bloody corpse lying there.

Bai Zhou reached out and turned off the camera.

After watching, Li Luo was so shocked she didn’t know what to say.

Bai Zhou removed the storage device and set it aside, then calmly said, “He asked me to finish the animation and take it out of the Black Tower.”

“He probably knew I wouldn’t be affected by the distortion, so he trusted me.”

After a moment of silence, Li Luo nodded.

“The fish is ready. Eat some.”

“All right.”

……

Bai Zhou led Li Luo in a wide detour, even going outside the Black Tower and jumping to another tunnel, finally arriving at the gate to the upper levels.

“There’s no way around this next area, we’ll have to fight. Those robed people are very different from humans now, don’t hold back,” Bai Zhou advised.

In the distance was a checkpoint, with two robed figures standing guard.

After watching Bai Zhou’s video, Mo Ling also knew about the existence of those strange organs.

He hadn’t noticed them before, and even if he had, he wouldn’t have recognized them.

Because the organs were tiny, indistinguishable from surrounding tissue, like a small growth.

Now, Mo Ling saw those organs inside the robed figures.

“So well hidden.”

The organs grew at the edges of the heart and brain, in the same place in every robed person.

“Maybe I can try removing them.”

Acting on the thought, Mo Ling shrank his teleportation frame and instantly removed the organ from the heart of one of the guards.

What Mo Ling didn’t expect was-

The robed figure’s heart stopped instantly, and he collapsed in pain, clutching his chest, quickly falling silent.

“Such a big effect?”

Mo Ling hadn’t expected that.

The dead one’s companion quickly noticed, shouted a character, and the symbol became armor, wrapping him tightly.

He scanned the surroundings warily, then shouted an eyeball-shaped rune, which floated into the air, trying to find the hidden enemy.

But this was useless against Mo Ling.

“This time, I’ll remove it from the head.”

Mo Ling targeted the strange organ in his head and teleported it away.

The moment the organ vanished, the black armor disappeared, and the floating eyeball dissipated.

But the robed figure was unharmed, as if the teleportation hadn’t hurt him at all.

However, his expression instantly turned to terror.

He opened his mouth, clearly trying to use that power again, but no sound came out.

He seemed to fall into a state of confusion, clutching his head, mouth wide in a silent “scream.”

Realizing he could no longer make a sound, he panicked and tried to run, but Bai Zhou was already on him.

A slender stream of water shot from Bai Zhou’s diving helmet, stabbing forward and piercing the robed figure through the back.

He fell, still with his mouth open, but no sound came out.

Bai Zhou waved for them to continue forward.

Further ahead, inside the checkpoint, a dozen robed figures were gathered in a circle, chanting words as if singing hymns.

The sound of their intertwined words was beautiful, almost sacred, like a church choir.

Each person sang different words, but together they formed a harmonious chorus.

Listening closely, they were all common words, but the intonation was melodious and elegant, as if expressed in another way.

“Lightbulb’s stab, here comes milk, three thousand pot lids-”

These meaningless combinations formed a mysterious, sacred song, echoing through the tunnels.

But the scene around the robed figures was anything but sacred.

A huge black sphere of blood floated at the center, with bloodlines extending from it to the wrists of the robed figures.

The bloodlines writhed unnaturally in the air, flowing rapidly.

“Are they absorbing this blood?”

After watching for a while, Mo Ling realized that wasn’t it.

The robed figures were squeezing blood out of their own bodies.

After draining their blood, they sang while taking odds and ends from their robe pockets and throwing them into the blood sphere, mixing things in.

The things they added were strange, like rotten wood chips and decaying leaves collected from all sorts of places.

Finally, the polluted blood flowed back into the robed figures through the bloodlines.

Because of the debris, the bloodlines carried many tiny black fragments, looking filthy.

Yet the robed figures hungrily absorbed the blood.

In Mo Ling’s vision, the broken leaves were still sharp, even slicing open their blood vessels.

Wood chips blocked the flow, sharp bits stabbing into the vessel walls, but the robed figures didn’t care at all.

Their song seemed to contain healing spells-just as the rot destroyed their bodies, the spells healed them.

Their expressions were both pained and blissful, eyes dazed, gasping for breath.

The sluggish blood left them oxygen-starved, faces bluish, eyes bulging, but the runes kept them alive, and they were lost in this bizarre state.

Self-mutilation?

Mo Ling couldn’t understand their actions. The fragments flowed through their bodies, causing destruction, but the strange organs inside didn’t change.

No power boost, no benefit.

Just pure bodily destruction.

Some fragments even clogged up, forming disgusting black lumps that made Mo Ling shudder.

He’d seen robed figures before without these lumps-probably those who hadn’t participated in this bizarre ritual.

Li Luo and Bai Zhou stared blankly at the robed figures.

“What are they doing?” Li Luo whispered.

Bai Zhou shook his head in confusion, took out his electronic screen, and recorded the strange ritual.

“I don’t know.”
