“This was bad.”

Hearing Li Luo’s answer, Mo Ling knew she must have been affected by that phenomenon without realizing it.

“Or maybe he was the one affected?”

He quickly took back the electronic screen and checked other pages, finding all the text readable-apparently the distortion hadn’t affected him.

But looking at Li Luo, after answering Mo Ling’s question, she opened her electronic screen, but her gaze grew more and more confused.

In the end, she could only find the settings page from memory and tried to change the language, but it didn’t help at all.

She looked up again and said to the cube,

“I can’t read it anymore.”

Mo Ling’s mind raced. The electronic screen wasn’t affected, so this was a distortion targeting humans.

It seemed the cube blocked this language disorder effect.

Double-checking, Mo Ling found he really could still read the text on the electronic screen.

He even found some food packaging and cans, tried reading the labels, and could understand all of them.

But Li Luo just looked confused at the words.

The distortion seemed severe.

“Try this,” Mo Ling suddenly thought of the red headscarf in the cube.

While looking for packaging, the red headscarf in the cube was so eye-catching it was impossible to miss.

The ability to recognize oneself, would it work against this language disorder?

After tossing the red headscarf out, Li Luo was surprised, but without words, she quickly understood Mo Ling’s intent.

She swiftly put on the red headscarf, and two long donkey ears slowly grew out.

Li Luo was puzzled why Mo Ling wanted her to wear the headscarf, but soon her gaze returned to the writing on the packages.

“It seems to work?” Mo Ling was pleasantly surprised.

But recalling the red headscarf’s ability, Mo Ling realized something even more frightening: this distortion was about identity recognition, with language disorder only a part of it.

Sure enough, Li Luo picked up a package, carefully read the words, then said to the cube, “This headscarf works, I can read again.”

Communication became smooth again.

Mo Ling quickly told Li Luo not to use the headscarf’s ability, then explained his theory about the Black Tower’s distortion.

“So that’s what this headscarf does.” Li Luo curiously touched her donkey ears.

She didn’t waste time and immediately began searching for information based on Mo Ling’s guess.

With all the filters added, the database precisely locked onto a relic that fit the conditions-

-Hieroglyph.

……

There are many buried ruins in the Disorderly Dunes.

These ruins often produce all sorts of relics, which is why the Abyss Second Layer is known as the “relic layer.”

But these ruins are full of dangers, generally following certain rules that can be cleverly solved.

Trying to force your way through is a dead end.

Once, a Hunter team discovered a pyramid-like ruin deep in the dunes.

Blinded by greed, they rushed in to look for relics, only to face all kinds of brutal traps.

Solidified sand spikes, swarms of snakes and insects, inescapable poison gas, sudden arrows-these traps cost the team dearly.

Though they all had relics and were experienced Hunters, they couldn’t handle the endless, ever-changing traps.

If they went deeper, there might be even deadlier dangers.

After losing so many companions, the team leader finally realized his mistake, calmed down, and led the survivors out of the pyramid in defeat.

This pyramid ruin wasn’t as simple as he’d thought.

After returning to the monitoring station, the leader couldn’t let it go. He spent a fortune hiring an old Hunter from Egypt as a guide and updated his gear, planning to explore again.

The Egyptian Hunter was called Namier . He wasn’t strong, but in his youth he’d been a tour guide in the Egyptian pyramids and knew them inside out.

He swore to the team leader that he could definitely lead them to the heart of the ruins.

“I could wander the pyramids blindfolded since I was five! Those pyramid experts don’t know them like I do.”

“All the traps have patterns. If you understand the pyramid’s structure, you’ll know where the dangers are.”

He was very professional, even found a 3D pyramid model and gave the team a lesson.

“See this bump on the ground? That’s a trigger. The more nervous you are, the easier you’ll step on it, but if you don’t let go after stepping on it, it won’t trigger. Very crude mechanism.”

“These obvious trap holes, the deeper, bigger ones are for spikes, the shallow, porous ones are for poison gas. The best way is to avoid them or block them before triggering.”

“You all have relics, these are just ordinary physical tricks, easy to handle.”

Namier talked at length, sharing his experience and boosting the team’s confidence.

The leader was so encouraged that, after a few days, the team set out again for the pyramid ruins.

Once inside, the traps that seemed inescapable before really were, as Namier said, nothing as long as you understood the principles and structure.

“What happened your first time? Didn’t you scan the structure with robots first? This is a proper expedition, not tomb robbing.” Namier didn’t understand the team’s earlier actions.

This time, Namier had the leader buy lots of disposable exploration equipment, and only after thoroughly mapping the pyramid’s structure and routes did they enter.

Namier was cautious every step, always probing ahead, and though he talked down the traps, he was the most careful of all.

“Who does traditional archaeology these days!”

The leader kept agreeing, even handing Namier full command, following behind and taking scoldings like a bullied kid.

Knowledge really is power.

They didn’t encounter much danger along the way-Namier really led the team well, and under his guidance, it felt like a sightseeing tour.

Namier even started lecturing about pyramid history, their types, and fun facts.

He judged that the pyramid cluster in the Abyss Second Layer was an early type, and talked about pyramid evolution.

“Here he goes again, occupational hazard.”

Namier stopped at a dark tomb passage, sniffed, and raised his hand to halt the team.

“Get ready to defend, there might be a swarm attack. Don’t use fire, this is a chain trap, it’ll set off flammable gas explosions. Just hold this passage.”

“Use high-speed physical attacks to knock them down. You pick the people,” Namier patted the leader’s shoulder and slowly walked to the back.

Sure enough, before long, a faint rustling came from the dark passage, muffled, like the sound of wings flapping.

“They’re coming,” Namier said calmly, standing by the tomb passage with his hands behind his back
