Chapter 93: I’ll Just Eat One
***
In my previous life, during those sleepless nights, I would often fantasize.
I’d fantasize about what it would be like if one day I gained powers like the heroes in movies… like Superman, Iron Man, Thor, and so on. These heroes were both powerful and cool, they could shoot lightning, fire lasers, easily lift entire buildings, and spent their days saving the world from dire situations.
I envied them greatly. Even though I knew back then that such people would only ever exist in stories, that they could never appear in reality, and even if they did, they’d probably be dragged off by research institutions to be poked and dissected, likely having no time or mood to save the Earth.
But that didn’t diminish my admiration for them, because fantasies are always beautiful. The images of those powerful and gentle heroes were deeply imprinted in my heart, yet what I envied wasn’t their flashy fire-breathing or lightning-shooting abilities. The heroes I liked all had one common ability without exception — they could soar freely through the sky.
Flight has been humanity’s dream since ancient times. The world of my previous life had no Order Power, no Faith Power, and certainly no strange Fire of Sin that burned itself. What people could achieve was through a force called technology, to realize their aspirations.
But this place is different.
Although this world’s technology is far more backward compared to my previous life, it’s hard to imagine I was forced to give up my phone. There are no computers, no internet, no transportation that can travel thousands of miles in a day, yet it possesses an irresistible charm — if the current me were to travel back, I’d probably be what the world considers a superhero, right?
The feeling of wielding “power” is quite wondrous, but unfortunately, despite being formidable, I still haven’t mastered the technique of flight.
But the woman before me can.
Is this what they call Wind Order with affinity pushed to its limit?
So enviable… who is this woman?
Wait.
If I’m thinking correctly, with the mimicry of Chaos Power, if used skillfully, could I perhaps…
This thought had barely emerged before I immediately dismissed it.
No.
The abyss is too terrifying. Until I figure out what it actually is, I shouldn’t carelessly use that power again. Otherwise, I can’t guarantee what I might become.
While I was lost in these random thoughts, the golden-haired woman gracefully approached.
That figure was like a divine maiden dancing in the sky, dressed in white as pure as snow. In the night sky with wind and thunder, carrying a faint scent of wine, she descended gracefully, landing before me and speaking indifferently.
“Stand down.”
With that simple sentence, the green-haired man and the woman standing in the courtyard lost their previous imposing manner. They lowered their heads and, like panthers, quietly and swiftly melted into the darkness without any hesitation, even though to them, I remained an intruder of unknown origin possessing power.
The mansion returned to tranquility, as if nothing had happened at all, leaving only the golden-haired woman silently watching me. Her face was hidden in the dim environment of the rooftop, but those captivating golden eyes somehow made it impossible for me to look away.
After a moment, she spoke.
“Shall we go down and sit?”
Her flat tone had no inflection, yet carried an irrefutable authority.
She’s someone accustomed to giving orders… After this thought occurred to me, I retreated a step and shook my head gently.
“I’d rather… not. Someone is waiting for me.”
The woman looked at me calmly.
“Carlos hasn’t returned yet.”
“……”
…She knows Carlos, and seems to be quite aware of his whereabouts?
“Don’t use him as an excuse. Come down.”
Without waiting for my response, a gentle breeze arose, and her graceful figure descended first from the rooftop, landing lightly in the stone pavilion where she lifted her skirt and sat down.
I hesitated somewhat.
To be honest, I don’t particularly like dealing with such people. Those born into great noble families, who stand at the top of the pyramid from birth, like Edward, like this woman who appears to be in her early twenties, these people mostly have a common flaw: they inherently feel superior to others… perhaps more than just one level above.
They might try their best to appear approachable, but their innate arrogance makes them accustomed to being imperious, especially this golden-haired woman.
I really dislike this attitude.
The Duke also gave off such a feeling, but he never released his aura in front of me.
Therefore, I didn’t intend to pay her any mind and wanted to leave, but at the moment I turned around, I heard that moving song again.
“Fill my heart with song, let me fly to the moon…”
My steps halted.
That song, that faintly melancholic emotion, did it come from this woman’s mouth?
Somewhat unexpected.
But it suddenly made me curious about her.
I turned back and jumped down from the rooftop, using Moon Step to “whoosh” with a gust of wind, instantly moving to the pavilion and half-reclining in the rocking chair opposite the woman, lifting my gaze to look at her face.
Under the flickering firelight, I finally saw her clearly.
At this moment, my breathing stopped, and I was slightly stunned.
Golden hair, golden eyes, vermillion lips, and crescent brows.
Countless beautiful words to describe her popped up in my mind: devastatingly beautiful, capable of toppling nations, bright eyes and white teeth, jade-like skin and bones… but when I tried to apply these descriptions to this woman, I found none of them suitable.
No single word could vividly capture her beauty. She was unique, a beauty this world could hardly imagine would exist. Her beauty made the stars and moon pale in comparison, made the dark night brilliant and radiant.
I could only sigh in my heart: What a beautiful person… though still slightly inferior to me.
Just that tiny bit, I’m not lying.
“So you’re that youngest Pontifical Knight in history?”
Seeing me staring at her intently, the woman met my gaze unflinchingly, her tone somewhat arrogant. I frowned unhappily, then stubbornly glared back at her.
“So what!”
The golden-haired woman didn’t pay attention to my childish defiance. She shifted her gaze away, turning to look at the wine glass on the table.
“Would you like some?”
Though she asked this, she clearly hadn’t prepared a glass for me and had no such intention. She simply picked up the wine bottle with her delicate fingers and poured some into the glass before her.
Then she took a small sip.
“54-year Smarlanka, very good taste.”
…Is she showing off to me?
This woman, what exactly does she want to say by calling me over here?
Not understanding her purpose, I couldn’t think of anything to say to her, and she clearly wasn’t the type to chat casually with others.
The atmosphere became somewhat stiff, but then the golden-haired woman put down her wine glass, stared at me for a moment, and suddenly said.
“…If you want to eat it, just eat it.”
I was greatly shocked.
“How do you know! …No, I don’t want to eat it!”
I thought I had hidden it well enough.
Even when I smelled the fruit’s fragrance from the plate and my mouth watered, I tried hard to maintain an indifferent appearance, my acting was quite good. Why could this woman see through the truth at a glance?
“From the moment you sat here a minute ago, you’ve looked at my face twice, at the wine glass once, and at the fruit plate 22 times.” The woman’s tone was calm and unruffled. “Do whatever you want to do. I don’t like your hesitant attitude even when eating a piece of fruit.”
…Who asked for your approval!
This woman is simply arrogant to the extreme. Does she think everyone will act according to her wishes?
She really looks down on people, doesn’t she?
So I looked at her with determined eyes.
“I’ll just eat one.”
