Chapter 79: The Black Scythe

***

Parsifal seemed to become more afraid of Pagos than before, looking just like a mouse that had seen a cat.

I could roughly imagine what he had experienced recently… Pagos was the top craftsman here, and since the duke had Parsifal learn under him, he must have been quite strictly trained.

Understanding this point, my gaze toward Parsifal became full of sympathy, and I sincerely hoped his days ahead would be more comfortable.

“Peipei, you haven’t come over here for 2 months, uh… Come! Uh, let uncle see if you’ve missed me!”

The huge shadow completely enveloped my petite body, and I widened my eyes in horror.

Don’t… don’t come over!

I quickly stepped back two steps, then “thud” hit the wall. Watching as Pagos took two steps to reach me, he extended his rough large hand and grabbed my small face.

Rubbing… kneading…

The dry and stiff unpleasant sensation came from both my cheeks, while my ears only heard Pagos laughing loudly.

“Hahaha! Little cheeks, still so soft, haha—uh…”

I’ll let you… Ha! Ha! Ha!

Three consecutive punches to his abdomen.

I originally wanted to hit his chest, but it was too high to reach. Though I could jump up to reach it, that would be too… unmannerly.

However, this time I used slightly more force than last time. Pagos couldn’t withstand the force, stumbled back two steps, and rubbed his belly.

“Haha! Not bad, not bad. Peipei, when you have time let’s uh, have a fight!”

“No time.”

Who wants to fight with you!

This person, I really don’t like him.

“Pagos, stop bullying her.” Seeing Pagos still coming forward, the duke quickly blocked his steps, “If you really anger her, she might roll you up and throw you into the blast furnace.”

But Pagos didn’t care at all: “Scalliger, Peipei and I are just uh, playing around!”

Then he seemed to discover something, furrowed his brows, and changed the subject.

“Hey, how come Lafayette didn’t come, isn’t he back?”

“Lafayette stayed at Shanter Castle, he has many things to handle today.”

“Oh.” Pagos rubbed his bald head, “I heard that kid, uh, took care of Edward?”

“Yes, it happened last night.”

Pagos nodded, then casually glanced at me.

When he looked back at the duke, the playfulness was gone from his eyes.

“Scalliger, are we going to war?”

“Maybe, no one can be sure right now.”

“Have you thought it through?”

“Thought it through? There’s nothing to think through about this, Pagos.” The duke also immediately lost his smile, “Nobody likes war, I don’t like it, Peipei doesn’t like it either. But things have come to this point, and I won’t hide from it, do you understand? I can’t wait until the mountain comes crushing down before making plans, we need to stay ahead of things to have a chance.”

Pagos pondered for a moment, then sighed.

“I understand, Parsifal told me all about what happened. What Edward did… Peipei used to listen to him so well, how could he bear to… If it were me, I would have crushed him too.” He pulled out the chair by the workbench behind him and sat down, “Alright, Scalliger, there’s nothing more to say about this. You know me, if that moment really comes, just tell me what to do and I’ll do it.”

“Mm.”

Pagos laughed again.

“Looks like my big hammer will be useful again.”

“Hope we won’t need to use it… the battlefield meat grinder…”

Just the name sounds scary.

Not long after, Parsifal returned.

Entering the room with him were two burly craftsmen, together carrying a completely black rectangular leather case, gritting their teeth, sweating profusely, looking quite strained.

“Peipei, your big scythe is here!… Careful… Put it here.”

Parsifal directed the two men to slowly place the leather case on the workbench.

The leather case’s material was very fine, with clear leather grain and excellent texture, though it wasn’t clear what kind of beast hide it was made from. The entire case was about 1.2 meters long, surprisingly heavy, as could be seen from the two craftsmen’s expressions. Although they tried their best to set it down gently, when the case landed on the table, it still made a muffled “thud” sound.

Dust rose up.

“Good, thank you for your hard work.”

“No problem, no problem.”

“This thing is so heavy… what’s inside?” one craftsman asked curiously.

“It’s an exotic weapon!”

“What kind of weapon is so heavy… is it new workshop technology…”

“Um… sort of…”

“So mysterious…”

After the two craftsmen left, Pagos rushed forward and gave a slap to the still-smiling Parsifal’s back of the head.

“I told you to bring the case, and you just had others carry it over!”

“Ouch!” Parsifal cried out in pain, quickly rubbing his head with a wronged expression, “I couldn’t lift it, it was too heavy…”

“It’s just under 100 kilograms, did you build those muscles for nothing?”

“100 kilograms, that’s not something a person can lift… uh.”

Halfway through speaking, Parsifal suddenly shut his mouth, then secretly glanced at me from the corner of his eye.

What, think I’ll be angry? Tch, childish.

“Uncle Pagos.”

I extended two fingers to pinch the hem of Pagos’s clothes as he was about to step forward to open the leather case, pulling it gently.

“Uh, what?”

“Can you lift it, this scythe?”

Hearing this, Pagos let out a big laugh.

“Ha! Peipei, asking that is uh, underestimating uncle, don’t you know who made it? My steel hammer is even heavier than this! Haha——!”

I nodded.

“Oh.”

Then stepped back two steps, saying nothing more, just smiling while looking at him.

Seeing this, Pagos was somewhat confused.

“Peipei, you called me just to say this…” After being stunned for a few seconds, he slapped his head as he realized, “No way. Parsifal! You brat, dare to say I’m not human!”

He grabbed Parsifal, who had seen the situation turn bad and was about to slip away, pulling him back, his huge fist drilling into his forehead until Parsifal cried out in pain repeatedly.

“Ow ow ow——! Uncle Pagos, I wasn’t talking about you!”

“Then who were you talking about!”

“I was saying… uh, no, I wasn’t talking about anyone!”

“Hahaha, alright, alright.” The duke pulled Parsifal out from Pagos’s evil clutches, “Pagos, I’m telling you, at your age, how are you still acting like a child.”

“What’s wrong with me, this stinking brat dared to insult me!” Pagos kicked Parsifal’s behind, “Go open the leather case!”

Although Parsifal’s face was full of grievance at this point, he didn’t dare disobey Pagos’s words, and had to unwillingly walk to the workbench, reach for the leather case, “click” opened the metal clasps on the right side twice, and lifted the lid.

The case was filled with a pure white, foam-like soft material, within which was embedded a black giant scythe that had been folded into three sections at both the handle and blade.

Pagos waved his hand.

“Take it out.”
