Chapter 24: Annihilation
***
“Little Syl……”
The girl before me showed a grief-stricken expression that pained one’s heart.
I fell into Elia’s arms, gently holding her waist, and gave her a somewhat weak smile.
“I’m, fine… why did, you come back, it’s dangerous cough cough……”
Spots of blood sprayed onto Elia’s chest. Elia raised her trembling right hand, trying to wipe the blood from my face with her sleeve, but couldn’t clean it off no matter how she tried. Her tightly held nerves gradually collapsed, and she opened her mouth crying until she lost her voice, already unable to speak, just tightly hugging me, looking as if she was afraid I would disappear at any moment.
“Why are you…… still, worried about others……”
Broken words came from the girl’s mouth.
Don’t be like this…… it’s so unfamiliar, I’m really fine.
“Elia, don’t hold her like that, put her on the ground first!”
The boy named Barry spoke with a trembling voice, as if suppressing some emotion about to erupt.
“Uh…… okay……”
Elia responded, but didn’t dare to move carelessly, afraid of hurting something else, appearing at a loss for what to do.
“Let me take a look. Barry, help hold her shoulders, Elia support her waist and legs, gently lay her down… yes, just like that. Little Sister Syl, can you hear me speaking?”
Allen was from a hunter family after all, and had experience with these things.
“Cough cough, yes. I, cough cough, really, am fine……”
These words weren’t meant to comfort them, I truly knew this body’s powerful recovery ability. Just needing a few days of good rest, these injuries would heal quickly. Even if I wanted to, going to the forest to devour large amounts of animal life…… better not do that unless absolutely necessary.
But my understanding was one thing.
Seeing me constantly coughing up blood, the softly spoken words had no persuasive power for Elia and the others.
“……Head has a dent from impact, right leg fractured at the calf, large areas of abrasions on the body, already showing symptoms of excessive blood loss…… most serious is the chest area, several ribs are probably broken…… looking at her condition, they may have punctured the lung……”
Allen’s voice grew increasingly somber.
With injuries this severe, in this world where even an infected cold could be fatal, death was only a matter of time.
This was something everyone understood.
“Wuah——”
Elia finally broke down, wailing loudly.
“Brother Allen, there must be a way right, please save her……”
Barry’s eyes were bloodshot as he looked at the silent Allen, his chest feeling as if crushed by a huge stone, the pain making him suffocate.
“……Perhaps, the Holy Church’s Bishop would have a way……”
“But, where can we find the Bishop……”
“Even if we could really invite the Bishop, there wouldn’t be enough time……”
“Cough cough, you don’t, need to. I just need, to sleep……”
Before the words could finish, they were interrupted by Elia’s heart-wrenching words.
“Don’t sleep, Little Syl, please, whatever you do don’t sleep!! Ah——”
Watching Elia open her mouth crying loudly, large teardrops falling on me, I suddenly felt like laughing.
“Hehe, okay, I won’t sleep. Help me, go over there, Dabai……”
I turned my head, wanting to see how Dabai was doing, not having seen any movement for so long, I was a bit worried.
The next moment, the smile that had just appeared on my face vanished.
I saw that monster move slightly.
Before I could determine whether it was just an illusion, the demon’s whispers sounded in my ears again.
“【Abyssal Language】……slash, kill.”
The situation changed in an instant, black smoke swept forward.
“Boom——”
“Crack crack crack crack——!!”
“Ahhhh——!!!”
Letting out a hoarse cry, ice pillars, ice spikes, ice walls, black flames……. all the power that could be used was thrown forward without regard for cost, trying to block the approaching death smoke.
It tricked me! This thing tricked me! How did it do it!
No wonder its resistance was so weak then, it was because it had to land where there were people.
At this moment I understood the monster’s trick.
Even though I was on the verge of death, an emotion called despair that I had never felt before gradually filled my heart.
I almost jumped directly up from the ground, first using my body to shield Elia, then pulling Barry behind me, mobilizing all the remaining strength in my body to forcefully tear open a gap in the black smoke.
“Allen, hide behind me……”
The words I wanted to say were never finished, as Elia suddenly turned around, spreading her arms to block in front of me.
The girl’s figure was as frail as ever, appearing especially thin before the towering black smoke.
A moment of bewilderment.
“Elia——”
“Whoosh——”
The impact of black smoke swept in in an instant, and ended in the next instant.
The smoke dispersed.
White mist rose from Allen’s body.
“I……”
He looked somewhat bewildered at his own hands, raising his head wanting to say something, but could no longer speak.
His body turned to ash.
“Allen……”
Elia softly spoke, lifting her foot wanting to walk towards Allen’s direction.
But she fell forward onto the ground.
“Elia——!!”
The moment the girl fell, I held her soft warm body.
So light.
“Little Syl, Allen he……?”
Elia was somewhat confused, her little head seeming unable to understand what had happened.
“Elia, hang on, you’re fine, you’re fine……”
Droplets fell on her face, increasing Elia’s confusion.
“What, happened to me? Uh…… ah…… it hurts……”
Her body began to shake violently.
“Elia, I can save you…… you’ll, be fine……”
“Uh…… uh…… Little Syl…… it hurts…… it hurts so much……”
“Sister!! What happened to you!! Sister!!”
Barry seemed to finally come to his senses, having completely hidden behind me, he wasn’t affected by the black smoke.
He saw Little Sister Syl covered in blood, holding his sister, showing a grief he had never seen before.
“It’s okay…… she’s fine…… she, will be fine……”
I stared blankly, muttering.
In my arms, most of Elia’s body had already turned charred black, the Abyss consuming her gradually withering body like a virus.
“Ah…… it hurts…… Little Syl…… what should I do…… it hurts so much……”
Her body began to convulse.
“Elia…… sleep, sleep. When you sleep…… it won’t hurt anymore……”
I gently patted Elia’s head like soothing a crying baby.
“Hurts…… hehe…… hurts…… uh…… grandma……”
The girl in my arms gradually fell silent.
She fell asleep.
Barry behind me trembled his lips, his face completely drained of color.
I stood rigidly holding her body like an idiot.
Until ashes obscured my vision.
A strand of cyan-white light smoke floated away from my embrace.
I wanted to reach out and grab her, but touched only emptiness.
She slowly floated towards the sky, together with dozens of similar light smoke rising from around, flowing towards the monster struggling to get up not far away.
“Hiss hiss——”
The monster absorbed all the cyan-white light smoke, its body trembling continuously.
I seemed able to feel its joy at this moment.
“Roar——!!!”
The monster howled excitedly towards the sky.
I stared at it blankly, my mind completely blank.
This scene circled in my consciousness for a long time.
The black smoke had killed Elia along with the villagers hiding nearby.
Suddenly, the truth came crashing down on me.
“Barry, get far away.”
“Where’s my sister!!”
“Go. I’m going to, kill it.”
I pushed Barry several meters back, tears streaming uncontrollably down my cheeks.
The delicate face showed an extremely fierce expression.
I will kill it.
Kill it kill it kill it kill it kill it kill it kill it…….
“Ahhhhhhh——”
Black smoke whipped up a violent hurricane, wrapping around me like an apocalyptic tornado.
Obscuring my small body.
“Boom——!!”
The next moment, a cyan arm reached out, violently smashing towards the ground.
“Bang——!”
The huge force shattered the ground, countless fireballs burning with black flames suddenly rose high into the sky, swooping towards the monster from all directions.
“Boom boom boom boom——!!!”
“Roar roar——” the monster let out painful howls.
Although devouring had no effect on it, the violent explosions could still wound it.
“Crack.”
I quickly leaped up, the huge arm pressed down on its dog head, forcing it down.
“Boom——!!!”
The monster’s head was pressed straight into the ground, cracking it in all directions. Then I quickly moved the hand pressing its head down, gripping its neck.
The black smoke tornado once again extended another cyan arm.
Clenched fist, swung down.
“Bang——”
The dog head was smashed into the ground.
Another punch.
“Bang——”
“Bang——””Bang——””Bang——”
One punch after another, I had already smashed a black hole in the ground.
“【Abyssal Language】We are kin, we…… why must we, kill each other so.”
The monster’s tone remained calm.
I stared at its eyes that were now oozing black liquid, speaking word by word.
“You and I. Are not, kin.”
Another punch fell.
“Boom——!”
“……Enough, little one, stop.”
An unfamiliar voice sounded.
“Who!!!”
I raised my head fiercely.
A bearded swordsman in silver armor stood to the side, with the pale-faced Barry shrinking in his cloak.
“……Leave the rest to me.” he said to me.
Hearing these words, complicated emotions suddenly welled up in my heart.
Sadness, pain. Grief, hatred.
“……Leave it to you?”
I laughed.
“You, say that again? Leave it to you?! What were you, doing, earlier?! My sister, is dead! Killed by this, damn monster…… I’m also, a damn, monster…… wuu…… damn it…… monster…… weren’t you, going to kill me…… wuu…… then just, kill me!!”
The delicate voice, yet a hysterical cry.
Carlos looked at the girl before him who was like a demon, yet showing unprecedented grief.
Many days ago, he still thought she was a terrifying monster.
But at this moment, the words the girl cried out were like a sharp knife, deeply piercing his heart.
He had actually gone to communicate with the church leadership about the girl’s situation, because only he understood best that the girl before him was not simply a monster.
Carlos had tried his utmost to protect her, to get the Pope to agree to his proposed solution.
He succeeded.
But none of this could serve as an excuse. Things getting to this point was his dereliction of duty. If he had still been here, perhaps it wouldn’t have become like this.
Why did it turn out this way.
“Crack, crack crack——”
The air suddenly turned cold.
He saw a light blue blade appear in the girl’s hand.
As the temperature gradually dropped, that blade’s color grew deeper and deeper.
“Roar roar——”
The monster seemed to sense something and struggled, but still couldn’t break free from the cyan hand’s grip.
The girl controlled the giant hand, stabbing the blade down towards the monster’s head.
“Thud——”
The deep blue blade pierced through the monster’s skull, nailing it to the ground.
After violent convulsions, the monster’s huge body began to break down, scattering into countless tiny dust particles.
A blood-red light smoke entered the girl’s body.
“Boom——”
The black light around the girl suddenly surged, then rapidly retracted back into her body along with the cyan arms.
“Thud.”
Her body fell down.
