Chapter 23: Abyssal Battle (5)
***
Two full-power releases, hitting head-on without any reserve.
I believe no matter how powerful and terrifying a monster is, as long as it falls within the realm of living creatures, low temperature will cause tremendous damage to it. Even with a physique as strong as that of a legendary dragon, once its flesh is frozen, it becomes both hard and brittle, losing its elasticity. At this point, if it receives another violent impact, it will immediately shatter.
When fighting against fellow creatures that crawled out of the Abyss, both sides lose their most terrifying yet effective means of attack, the devouring nature of black smoke.
That thing is useless against either of us.
And with my frost power, there aren’t many methods that can quickly cause effective damage to monsters. Ice mist works quickly against small monsters, but becomes quite ineffective against BOSS. The Abyss can devour everything, including freezing air, just like how I devoured the overwhelming fireballs. Even if I directly release the Frost World here, it wouldn’t have too much impact on that thing in a short time.
Moreover, now that I’ve lost my weapon, the hardness of ice spikes alone cannot pierce through its defense.
Unless I can burst out enormous energy at once, before it has time to release enough black smoke to counteract it.
Or, wait until it exhausts its strength.
“Ha—— Ha——”
The two attacks consumed tremendous energy, making my small chest heave violently.
Black mist and ice crystals continued to dance before my eyes.
Is it dead?
Just as this thought emerged, a large hand suddenly stretched out from my field of vision, grabbing my delicate neck.
“Roar——!!!”
An angry roar erupted. The dog face, now steaming with icy vapor and wearing even more damaged armor, broke through the residual smoke of the black flame explosion and lifted me up.
“Ugh—— cough cough, cough……”
Being grabbed by the throat was extremely uncomfortable, I involuntarily stuck out my small tongue, my feet frantically kicking in the air.
Desperately wanting to release another burst of freezing air, I was shocked to find I couldn’t muster any strength.
Two seconds later I couldn’t even cough anymore. The grip on my neck grew tighter and tighter, making it impossible to breathe.
Struggling to use my last bit of strength, I formed a sharp ice spike in my hand and slashed three times at that black skeletal-like thin arm.
It barely broke the skin, causing no pain whatsoever.
“Crack.”
The ice spike shattered. My hands fell limp, a long strand of crystal-clear saliva dripping from the corner of my mouth as my eyes started to roll back.
“Roar——!!”
Dabai’s roaring mixed with gusts of wild wind came from behind, huge claws sweeping toward the monster.
“Roar——”
The monster retreated sharply backward to dodge the lethal claw, then threw me up into the sky like trash before facing Dabai.
To it, Dabai posed a greater threat than me.
“Whoosh whoosh whoosh——”
Whistling sounds were continuous in my ears, unclear whether it was air flowing past my eardrums or the cloak fluttering in the wind. The brief oxygen deprivation to my brain left my consciousness severely scattered, all I could feel was my body suddenly breaking free from gravity’s pull and flying upward, then getting slower and slower, slower and slower. Finally, after a brief pause… beginning to fall.
Got to… do something.
Though thinking this, my limbs were as soft as mud, completely unable to muster any strength.
Just kept falling like this.
“Bang——!”
On my third fall from height, my vision immediately went black.
I don’t know how long it took before I opened my eyes again.
Buzz——
Tinnitus mixed with dizziness made me shake my small head continuously, taking quite a while to regain consciousness.
“Ugh…… cough cough, cough cough…… ptui.”
My mouth was full of dust and grit, I spat out a mouthful of bloody spittle. Disheveled hair stuck to my face strand by strand, laboriously raising my hand to brush it away, the touch felt somewhat sticky, opening my palm to see it covered in blood red.
Must have hit my head when I fell.
I trembled trying to support myself up from the ground, but with just a slight movement, my lower leg bones sent piercing pain.
“Huff—— , huff——”
I lay on the ground, breathing with difficulty.
How miserable, I thought.
But…… I must kill it here.
Struggling to raise my head, I saw in the distance on the ground, the monster and Dabai were engaged in a heart-stopping physical battle. The tremendous force made the nearby ground full of pits and holes, in the air mixed with flying rocks and black smoke, occasional bursts of scorching white light flashed through.
The massive Dabai clearly held absolute advantage in terms of strength, its swinging claws seemingly tearing apart heaven and earth. In comparison, that monster was only the size of Dabai’s head, appearing as if it could be crushed with one step, yet its movements were incredibly agile, constantly diving from the air to launch attacks at Dabai, never engaging in prolonged combat, while continuously releasing large amounts of black smoke.
Although Dabai seemed to have some resistance to this, prolonged exposure would still cause serious erosion, large patches of white fur falling from its back, revealing already festering skin, the wounds shocking to behold.
Even though Dabai’s fighting spirit remained high at this moment, not yet showing obvious signs of fatigue, the situation had become very unfavorable.
“【Abyssal Language】Slash.”
Hearing this voice again, my heart tightened, knowing the blade was coming.
I couldn’t help but worry for Dabai.
The next moment, however, I saw that monster floating in the air raise both arms high above its head. That posture reminded me of evil cultists offering hearts in sacrifice to evil gods.
Black smoke from all directions began to converge toward the top of its head, the black sun appearing once again.
“Hum…… hum…… hum……”
Dabai raised its head, opening its mouth once more.
“Boom——!!”
Intense light gushed forth.
At the same moment, the black sun exploded like fireworks, transforming into countless smoke balls shooting toward the ground.
“Bang bang bang bang bang——”
The smoke balls collided with the ground, bursting into beautiful black smoke flowers, countless bizarre figures being born from within.
“Clang——, swoosh——”
Small monsters using blades as limbs twisted their bodies, surging toward Dabai from all directions.
The monster in the air twisted its body, barely grazing past the light beam shot by Dabai, coordinating with the summoned small monsters to launch another charge, adding several new wound marks on Dabai’s body.
“Roar——!!”
Dabai angrily raised its giant claws, each strike bringing up numerous monster limbs and fragments, each step crushing several monsters into flying ash. Yet more monsters approached taking advantage of the gaps between attacks, using their vast numbers to overwhelm Dabai.
I watched with wide eyes at the scene before me that looked like ants trying to shake an elephant.
Dabai couldn’t fall, if I didn’t act now there would be no chance.
I gritted my silver teeth, stretched out my right hand, suddenly clenching the spread fingers.
……Frost World.
The air suddenly turned cold.
My body began to emit thin mist.
In the next instant, everything within sight, whether vegetation or rocks, or those monsters that were surging forward ferociously just a moment ago, all became wrapped in a layer of dense frost.
The world turned pure white.
As the temperature dropped further, more and more ice crystals floated in the air, giving off a slight ice-blue color, sparsely decorating this pure white world.
The entire process took no more than 5 seconds.
Those monsters surrounding Dabai, their fierce attacks instantly became sluggish, their movements becoming stiff until they froze into brilliant ice sculptures.
Done it.
“Ha—— ha——”
Deep fatigue sent me warnings of physical exhaustion, my eyelids starting to droop.
“Roar——!!!”
Dabai shook off the ice covering its body, walking out from among the ice sculptures, exhaling large amounts of white mist with each breath.
Thank goodness, it’s alright.
I breathed a sigh of relief.
This move was actually a gamble, betting on whether Dabai could withstand the frost’s power. When I first met it, I had accidentally attacked it with ice spikes, yet it had no effect whatsoever, so I believed Dabai’s physical defense capability certainly wouldn’t be inferior to that monster.
I won the bet.
Next, as long as Dabai could hold off the monster for a while longer, I would have the chance to use my last bit of strength to kill it.
Unfortunately, plans couldn’t keep up with changes.
“【Abyssal Language】Slash.”
The sound of wind being cut rang out in the air once again, black blades flew past over Dabai’s head, straight toward me.
I desperately rolled to one side. At this moment my body seemed to have gone numb, the feeling of pain actually lessening somewhat.
Damn it, does it want to kill the weaker me first?
Looking up, that monster had indeed abandoned the glaring Dabai, flying rapidly toward me.
“Roar——”
Dabai tried to intercept the monster, but completely couldn’t keep up with its speed, instantly being left behind.
I stood up shakily, black pupils staring intently at it.
The monster spun twice in the air, showing me its sharp claws.
“Swoosh——”
Yet it struck empty air.
I had already leaped into the air, stretching out both hands to grab the monster’s two horns, doing a flip to land steadily on its back.
Now I’ve caught you again.
Ice mist rose at the moment my feet landed.
“Roar——!!!”
Countless tentacles immediately wrapped around me.
The next moment, ice spikes burst forth everywhere, freezing half of the monster’s body.
The monster’s figure suddenly paused in the air, its flying height dropping sharply, barely able to hover at low altitude, it kept struggling, trying to throw me off.
No way!
I gritted my teeth and held onto the horns with all my might, fully channeling the power of frost.
The monster’s struggles grew weaker and weaker, the area covered by frost growing larger and larger. That thick abyssal energy was gradually disappearing, finally about to exhaust its power.
Gradually, it could no longer release even half a strand of black smoke, beginning to fall while carrying me.
“Bang!”
Soil and rocks sprayed out mixed with countless ice crystals.
At the moment of landing, half of the monster’s frozen tentacles along with its right arm suddenly shattered, and due to inertia it slid forward quite a distance before becoming completely motionless.
……Finally, it’s over.
Sunlight broke through the dark clouds and shone down.
Blood dripped along my cheeks, my dress stained with large patches of bright red.
Where did I… fall to…… seems like inside the village?
Looking around, Dabai was nowhere to be seen.
Really flew quite far.
I got down from the monster’s body, limping forward two steps.
My feet went weak, about to fall.
“Little Syl!!!”
A pair of soft hands supported me.
……Who is it?
Raising my hazy eyes, I saw a face crying to the point of breakdown.
“Elia……”
