Chapter 19: Abyssal Battle (1)
***
The gentle sunlight was obscured by dark clouds.
A slight fishy smell carried by the breeze entered the nostrils, stirring up dust in the chaotic airflow.
It was as if the world had turned dark and cold.
“Little Syl…”
Elia hesitated behind me.
“Elia, retreat. I, will, find you all.” I quickened my pace forward, without looking back, “Now, go.”
Clearly sensing the surging and agitated Abyssal energy not far away, as well as that sense of belonging carved into my bones like blood, I forcibly suppressed the inexplicable palpitations in my heart.
“Elia, listen to Syl… sister, you all should leave quickly. Don’t worry, I’ll go with her.”
Barry said as he stepped forward.
“Barry! Don’t come over!”
“Sister Syl…”
“It’s coming, you need to quickly…”
“Sylvia! I’m telling you, no matter who you really are, I Barry won’t leave…”
“Rumble——”
Barry’s words weren’t finished when a sudden thunder-like sound came from the distance. The ground beneath our feet trembled again, countless familiar black smoke dust rose to the sky at the edge of vision, exploding like fireworks, splitting to the high sky then suddenly gathering into a huge black smoke ball.
“Whoosh whoosh whoosh——”
As more and more smoke gathered, the density of the smoke ball became higher and higher. In the blink of an eye, it solidified into substance, pouring down black waterfalls, like a black sun of death, replacing the sun obscured by dark clouds, hanging high in the sky.
Barry’s eyes were fixed on this apocalyptic terrible scene, swallowing his saliva, the brave words he was about to say finally couldn’t come out.
Then a voice came from the sky.
“【Abyssal Language】Who… am… I… What’s… happening to me… I am… I… clearly… I… ah… hehehe… I am… I am the will of god… I am… the endless abyss… kill.”
When that voice first spoke, there was still a hint of confusion in its tone, as if trying to confirm something.
However, it quickly felt like being swallowed by something, rapidly turning into emotionless coldness.
As if abandoning its soul.
I hadn’t had time to think about the meaning of this when the next moment, howling gale came head-on.
“Boom——!!! Whoosh whoosh whoosh whoosh——”
Countless huge black blades flew out from the smoke ball, sweeping across countless kilometers, carrying out destructive indiscriminate attacks.
“Boom boom boom boom boom——!!”
The blades carrying fierce winds scattered and smashed into the ground, like huge missiles, with explosion sounds constantly echoing, soil, stones, grass and trees flying everywhere in an instant.
“Oh my goodness……”
Someone let out a desperate sigh. At the same time, a blade flew straight towards me.
My pupils contracted, taking a deep breath while my left hand lit up with tiny blue light.
“Ha——!”
The small hand swung forward with force.
“Bang——crack crack crack crack!!”
With bursting crisp sounds, a huge ice wall rose from the ground, blocking in front at the moment the black blade arrived.
The ice wall stood like a small mountain, the bone-chilling cold could be felt from far away. The lingering frost scattered in all directions, transforming into tiny ice particles that left a fine layer of frost on the villagers’ eyebrows and hair.
However, this power beyond their understanding was nothing but a mantis trying to stop a chariot in front of the blade.
“Crack——!”
The black blade, with unstoppable momentum, easily penetrated the hard ice, its force not diminishing at all.
My spirit was highly concentrated, all things around me seemed to be covered in slow motion like in a movie.
The moment I saw the ice wall crack, my body was about to reflexively make an evasive movement.
Then glanced back.
Elia, Barry, Allen, and all the villagers. They widened their eyes and opened their mouths, unable to make any reaction, showing fear on their faces, waiting for death to come.
Gritting my teeth, I stopped.
Faint black smoke rose from beneath my feet and palms, wrapping around the scythe in my hand.
Everything happened in an instant.
In Elia’s eyes, Little Syl, who usually looked soft and weak and easy to bully, just looked at herself like this, her young face showing unprecedented seriousness, raising the Shandao used for farming in her hand, turning to face that terrible power.
“Clang woong woong woong——!!!!”
Fierce winds raged, sand and stones flew.
The metal clash sound seemed about to tear one’s eardrums.
The whole world was dyed black, the huge blade seemed about to swallow me.
At this moment, I felt like I was facing a truck crash with a mortal body. The unstoppable force made my small body continuously slide backward, scraping a long deep mark on the ground below, about to crash into the crowd behind.
“Ahhhhhh——!!”
I let out an angry roar, struggling to lift up the scythe in my hand.
“Whoosh——”
The blade almost brushed past everyone’s heads, flying away like lightning towards the distance.
I took a deep breath, looked at the deep notch on the back of the scythe, my right hand trembling slightly.
“Quick! Go! I can’t protect, you all!!!”
“Gulp.”
Barry behind me swallowed.
The brave words he hadn’t said earlier were now long gone who knows where.
“Go! Quick go! Don’t give Sister Syl more trouble!!”
His eyes were full of crimson color, whether from guilt for being a burden, or fear of surviving death.
“Run!!”
The villagers finally woke up from their dream, carrying those who couldn’t move, running away with all their might.
“Little Syl!!!” Elia shouted loudly at me, “We’ll wait for you to come back!! You are! My sister!! You must… come home!!”
The girl’s cry was unprecedentedly resolute. I turned back to look her in the eyes, nodding slightly.
Yes, definitely.
Although that small house called home had already turned into ruins.
Watching them finally gradually leave the battlefield.
“【Abyssal Language】…kill.”
The demon’s whisper echoed in my ears again.
“【Abyssal Language】I’ll kill your dad!!!!”
The young girl’s voice that sounded still somewhat childish, an angry roar without any deterrence.
But ice pillars burst up from beneath my feet.
During the time staying in the village, I certainly couldn’t just stupidly be a village girl. The practice of using power never slacked off at all. Up to now, leaving aside the black smoke, at least in the use of frost power, I could say I was quite proficient and comfortable.
Using the thrust of the ice pillars, I jumped up nearly 20 meters high, drawing a parabola in the air, immediately supporting another ice pillar at the landing spot when falling. Just like this continuously using the thrust of bursting ice pillars, rapidly closing the distance with the smoke ball.
The endless abyss didn’t release those terrible flying blades again, but summoned large numbers of humanoid monsters with blades growing on their hands and feet by some unknown method.
Those monsters were completely black, although having human form, their shapes were distorted completely unlike humans. They wandered around in the village, some even couldn’t walk properly, but could always quickly reap at the first sight of life.
Pale blue light continuously floated up from the ground flowing into the smoke ball.
So, this is what the abyss is.
Wherever it passes, everything is annihilated, not even souls can remain.
My heart was invaded by emotion called anger, my pupils turned completely red.
Diving towards the ground, accurately landing in front of a monster, raising the nearly 2-meter long scythe high.
Cold light flashed past.
The monster’s head flew up to the sky, turning into black smoke and dissipating in no time.
“Zing——”
Without any pause, the giant scythe in my hand danced again, Grandma Claire’s words echoing in my mind.
“Small step steady stance, bend waist, left hand grip, right hand sweep. Quick force, steady cut.”
As easy as harvesting wheat, each rise and fall of the blade would take at least one monster.
These little things were powerless against me.
But there were just too many.
I didn’t dare release the frost world here, that would kill all the villagers still alive.
Is there any way…
“Help, help!!”
Hearing loud calls for help from not far away, I threw down a monster head in my hand, jumped up supporting an ice pillar, seeing it was Leyn.
He was being closely chased by two monsters, desperately fleeing.
Without any hesitation, I twisted my body in the air, changing direction to crash over like a cannonball.
