Chapter 92

Tang Tian cried out in pain.

Animal survival instinct made him immediately retreat, swiftly darting away from the source of his injury.

He bit down hard on his hand, continuously sucking the blood from his veins, using blood to heal his wounds. The injury on his head rapidly closed up, but the half of his head wearing the eyepatchalong with that eyefailed to regenerate after being sliced off. His energy was insufficient, inadequate for full head regeneration.

The intense pain temporarily halted his thought processes, leaving only the primal instinct to feel the agony.

Only when he saw Yu Wei spring up from the ground like a carp did Tang Tian realizehe had fallen for a trap!

After his fierce assault earlier, Yu Wei hadn’t died at all but had feigned death to lure him closer, waiting for the opportunity to counterattack!

Never had he imagined that the usually introverted and honest Yu Wei would resort to such deception.

Despite all his calculations, Tang Tian never expected Yu Wei to deceive him with such a cunning trick. He had suffered greatly, losing half his head!

Fury burned through Tang Tian: “Yu Wei, you deceived me!!!”

Blood still dripped from the military knife in Yu Wei’s hand. On the blade, white viscous matter mixed with slightly congealed blood swirled around the blood groove, refusing to drip off.

Step by step, limping, he approached Tang Tian.

“Don’t underestimate an old hand.” Yu Wei’s voice remained as deep and calm as ever. Despite being covered in blood and wounds, his posture remained upright, his tall frame reflected in the small puddle, condensed into a tiny silhouette.

Under the overcast sky, the gloomy light fell like a net. Yu Wei’s steps were heavy and unsteady, yet not slow.

He strode, step by step, toward his broadsword.

“Three years. These three years have given me not just an increasingly decrepit and broken body, but also a more resolute determination and willthe determination and will to cut you down with this blade.”

Yu Wei bent down, attempting to pick up his broadsword, but he could no longer lift it.

The flesh had been sliced from the top of his foot, who knew how many ribs were broken, perhaps internal organs were damaged toothere wasn’t a single part of him left intact.

Even as a Postnatal Spirit, he was still flesh and blood. It seemed he had reached his limit.

But it didn’t matter.

Without the broadsword, there was still the small knife. To end a life, a small, sharp weapon was enough.

With firm yet slow movements, he dragged his pain-wracked body forward, clutching the compact but sharp military knife, step by step closing in on Tang Tian. It was as if he were walking toward his own endpointa destination that simultaneously declared both victory and death.

Tang Tian watched him in terror, his pupils involuntarily contracting. In the bleak autumn light, he seemed to see Death itself slowly approaching.

He wanted to transform into a zombie to counterattack, to regain overwhelming power, to defeat Yu Wei, to devour Yu Wei’s flesh and blood.

But…

Tang Tian’s zombie transformation only progressed to his arms before halting completely.

His energy was insufficient.

What Yu Wei had sliced away wasn’t just half his head, but also his vital essence, his energy.

What to do…

Panic instantly seized Tang Tian.

His first instinct? To run.

He swiveled his remaining eye, scrambling toward the corner of the wall. Snatching up a black cloth bag by the courtyard wall, he immediately tried to bolt for the entrance.

Where was the arrogant, domineering Tang Tian from earlier now?

He more closely resembled a drowned rat fleeing in panic.

Yu Wei roared, ignoring his fractured foot as he pushed off hard and lunged forward. One hand clamped down on Tang Tian’s shoulder like a vise, while the other gripped his blade, slashing and stabbing relentlessly.

He couldn’t let him escape.

Absolutely not.

Yu Wei’s body had reached its limitnone of his refined combat techniques remained usable. All that was left was the raw, violent instinct for battle buried deep in his bones.

His slashes, thrusts, and sweeps followed whatever felt natural, guided purely by physical intuition and survival drive. One rule prevailed: never stop.

Kill him. Kill Tang Tian!

Tang Tian, too, had devolved into a frantic child, defending and blocking on sheer instinct alone.

With his defenses shattered by Yu Wei, Tang Tian was utterly terrified.

In terms of willpower and resolve, he was far inferior to Yu Wei. Once his advantages vanished, his fighting spirit crumbled completely, leaving him scurrying and hiding like a cornered rodent.

It didn’t take long for Yu Wei to overpower him, slamming him face-down onto the ground, where he lay trembling and moaning.

“Don’t… don’t kill me. Master, please don’t kill me…”

“You can’t kill me!”

Half of Tang Tian’s face was a bloody mess, his teeth chattering as he screamed desperately.

Yu Wei acted as if he hadn’t heard. His resolute eyes reflected Tang Tian’s grotesque, horrifying half-face, his mind singularly focused on one goalending Tang Tian’s life.

Raising the Remaining Might Blade, he summoned every ounce of his strength, aimed squarely at Tang Tian’s heart. His gaze sharpened, poised to strike.

But abruptly, what appeared before his eyes was no longer Tang Tian’s mutilated facebut a small pink box, studded with colorful seashells.

The box was caked in mud. Last night’s rain had left the soil damp, leaving the box grimy and stained, yet carrying the earthy scent of wet ground.

Even so, he could still see a tiny “window” carved into the lid, fitted with glass.

Through that window, the contents were visibleashes.

It was an urn.

Daddy, all the other kids write in their essays: “During the holidays, Mom and Dad took me to the amusement park.” When will you take Niuniu to the amusement park?

Mom and the doctor say Niuniu is sick, but Niuniu isn’t sick. If Daddy takes Niuniu to the amusement park for just one day, Niuniu will be all better.

Daddy, is this the house I’m going to live in from now on? Isn’t the door a little too small? Can Niuniu fit inside? Will it get bigger once I go in?

Daddy, after I move in, can you put a window in the roof for me?

I want to see what the little birds flying past Niuniu’s grave look like.

I also want to see what Daddy is doing every day. Daddy, oh Daddy, why do you never come home?

Yu Wei’s blade halted mid-air.

That touch of pink color made the world before his eyes grow hazy, blurring everything into obscurity.

“Niu Niu…”

Why would Niu Niu be here?

Right, Tang Tian had taken it out from his bag.

He saw it.

In his dazed state, a sharp pain pierced through his abdomen as something penetrated his belly and slowly withdrew.

Yu Wei stiffly lowered his head and saw Tang Tian’s hand retracting, black nails stained with fresh, steaming blood.

All strength seemed to drain from his body with that single withdrawal by Tang Tian. Yu Wei instantly collapsed to his knees, hands clutching his abdomen, consciousness beginning to scatter.

Tang Tian’s maniacal laughter echoed in his ears, sometimes distant, sometimes near. Warm blood gushed from his abdomen – painful, but when pain reached its extreme, only numbness remained.

So numb that even when Tang Tian snapped his index finger, Yu Wei felt no pain.

It seemed… he was going to die.

But…

No, he couldn’t fall.

Yu Wei swallowed the blood rising in his throat, using the last remnants of Spirit within his body to seal the fatal wound in his abdomen.

His mind cleared slightly.

Yu Wei tried to gather strength to rise, but his limbs felt as heavy as lead, unable to muster any energy.

“After I finish my business, I’ll come feast on you,” Tang Tian leaned down and snarled viciously at Yu Wei.

Helpless, Yu Wei could only watch as Tang Tian entered the office building, likely going up to the third floor, then emerging again, bringing down a shrine.

Yu Wei strained to widen his eyes, barely making out the shrine’s appearance – it depicted a noblewoman-like deity with compassionate features, holding a child in her arms.

“Hariti Goddess,” Tang Tian cradled the shrine, laughing hysterically with rampant triumph. He pulled out a bag of foul-smelling blood from his pouch and splashed it over the shrine.

Moments later, the once divine shrine was drenched in blood, now exuding an eerie, sinister aura. The blood coating the shrine quickly congealed into strings, dripping down to form a small pool of blood on the ground.

Kneeling before the shrine, Tang Tian took out three incense sticks, lit them, and placed them before the shrine.

Incense smoke slowly rose, spreading the scent of sandalwood through the air.

While methodically performing these actions, Tang Tian said: “Master, I told you – I’ve waited far too long for this day.”

“Raised a whole bunch of little ghosts to occupy those freaks in your department, a diversion tactic, and then – then come kill you, hahaha!!”

“Yes, you’re the department’s powerhouse, you’re strong. In terms of combat, I can’t defeat you. But in my view, you’re actually the easiest to deal with.”

Tang Tian turned back, looking at Yu Wei lying weakly on the ground, sneering: “Because your weakness is just too easy to exploit.”

“Everything was a trap set specifically for you. To force me to this extent, you won’t die unjustly.”

After offering incense, it was time for the tribute.

Tang Tian placed the pink urn before the shrine, his voice carrying both devotion and madness: “Hariti, in your previous life, while pregnant, you begged five hundred pilgrims heading to Rajagriha for help. They abandoned you, causing the child in your womb to miscarry and die.”

“You? Filled with hatred, you? swore that if there were future lives, you would devour all the children in the city to avenge the unborn child in your womb.”

“You? Actually did it! You? ate so many infants, so very many! Your body is stained with the blood of slaughter! Awaken, Hariti, open your eyes once more and seethere is no Shakyamuni in this world anymore, no one left to redeem you! Don’t pretend to be the Goddess of Childbirth, nor play the role of Hariti Goddess. You? Are the ghost mother who feasts on infants!”

“I have used sinful human blood to rouse your ferocity, used Incense Offerings to awaken you from the Shrine.”

“I offer you the most delicious tributethough she has long lost her flesh and blood, she possesses the purest Spirit in the world!”

“Feast, gnaw, descend into depravity! Return to this wicked world, savor the tribute I’ve prepared for you, devour her Spirit, open your eyes, your sinful eyes, reclaim your title as the ghost mother! Make all tremble in terror, make them prostrate at your feet!”

The incense burned faster and faster.

The mist grew denser and more coiled.

In the unseen depths, something seemed to stir restlessly, awakening.

Yu Wei stared at the pink urn being offered as tribute, his eyes gradually turning crimson as if welling with tears or burning with hatred.

Trembling, he mustered his last ounce of strength, pulled a tube of pink potion from his pocket, and gulped it down his throat.

Finally, his strength returned.

Yu Wei roared, “I’ll kill you!”
