Chapter 91
In the blink of an eye, the bite mark on Yu Wei’s instep from Tang Tian’s teeth had rotted to the point where the flesh turned numb. Like ripples, the decay spread outward from the bite. As the flesh putrefied, black hair slowly began to grow.
Yu Wei’s face paled drastically. “You… you’ve turned into a zombie. You’re a monster.”
He had been infected by Tang Tian’s Toxin.
Having dealt with Ghouls for years, Yu Wei was no stranger to this kind of infectious Toxin.
Tang Tian didn’t respond, instead continuously sucking and licking the blood flowing from the severed wound on his wrist. Soon, the gushing blood ceased.
Zombies have no soul or Spirit, feeding on flesh and blood. As long as they consume flesh, they are nearly immortal.
Ordinary zombies fear sunlight and blazing fire, but judging by Tang Tian’s appearance, his level was at least that of a Flying Zombie or higher.
He was a scourge.
Yu Wei’s gaze turned sharp.
“Bullshit! I’ve received the Bestowment of the Primordial Zombie General Chen!” Tang Tian retorted. “I’m not a zombieI’m the Zombie King! I’m not a monster; you people are the monsters! A bunch of perverted, self-righteous freaks!”
“With such immense powerable to soar through the skies, burrow into the earth, easily dominate humanityyet you choose to hide your identities, toiling like dogs, torturing yourselves. What’s the point?” Tang Tian’s eyes burned with ferocity, like a starving wolf lurking in the dark night, his tone dripping with sarcasm. “I can’t stand your self-righteous, holier-than-thou attitude. Do you really think you’re bodhisattvas saving the suffering? The world is vast, filled with countless weak and incompetent people. How many of you are there? How many hands do you have? Can you truly save everyone from their misery?”
“What do you mean I’m not fit to be an order-keeper, that I’m unsuitable for this job? Ha! How laughable. I never wanted to be someone who tortures himself! I want to be strongthe strongest!” Tang Tian laughed wildly, baring his fangs. “And I’ve done it! I’ve surpassed every single one of you! You can’t kill me, Master. You’ve grown old and weak, while I am now the strongest!”
A solemn, resolute expression settled on Yu Wei’s face. Gripping his blade with one hand, he declared, “I once took you in, taught you everything. You called me Master, and I regarded you as my disciple. Today, I shall cleanse our ranks right here, eliminating you, this disgrace, for the sake of humanity. Your blood will serve as an offering to our departed former chief, granting peace to the souls who perished because of you.”
“Are you joking? With what will you cleanse the ranks? With your frail, aging body? Or with the body that will soon be assimilated by my Toxin?”
Word by word, Tang Tian hissed, “Master, stop struggling. Soon, your body will become just like minerotting, stinking, driven mad by the scent of fresh blood. Your body will no longer obey reason, craving only to feed, feed, and feed again… Your face, your hands, will grow hair, transforming into the lowest form of Hairy Zombie. You will lose your soul, your ability to think, leaving behind only a putrid, decaying shell to be commanded by me. Accept your fate. Prepare to submit to my will and serve me!”
“Is that so?” Yu Wei’s expression remained calm. He merely retorted coldly without offering any rebuttal or explanation.
Then, amidst Tang Tian’s hysterical, triumphant laughter, Yu Wei used his blade to slice off the rotting, mold-covered flesh from the top of his own foot.
A chunk of flesh was cleanly severed from his body, blood gushing forth, yet Yu Wei didn’t even flinch, his face still composed.
“Since when have you ever heard me tell jokes?” He raised the blood-stained Remaining Might Blade, pointing it at Tang Tian, and continued, “This is how we cleanse our ranks.”
“You” Tang Tian’s face twisted with fury, “You’re asking for death!”
With a roar, Tang Tian transformed completely into a zombie, his body swelling as if bloated.
His muscles took on a putrid purplish-green hue, veins like earthworms bulging across his skin. The vitality of a living person drained instantly from his face, leaving it skeletalgaunt, grotesque, with sunken flesh and a dark bluish-black complexion.
Zombification amplified the host’s strength and physical advantages. Under its effects, Tang Tian’s previously severed arm regenerated, and ten long, sharp, jet-black nails sprouted from his fingertips.
The clothes he wore burst instantly, hanging off him in tattered strips like rags.
A Zombie King could soar through the skies and burrow underground, possessing the ability to levitate, extreme speed, and monstrous strengthalready a human-shaped behemoth, no longer human.
Seeing this, Yu Wei let out a fierce cry and charged forward with his blade.
However, Tang Tian was faster.
Tang Tian leaped straight into the air, evading Yu Wei’s fierce strike, then plummeted downward, claws bared, swinging his dark, tiger-like hands to smash into Yu Wei’s face.
Yu Wei crossed his blade horizontally, blocking Tang Tian’s palm strike while sidestepping to avoid the attack.
Yet, the broadsword in Yu Wei’s grip was pinned firmly by Tang Tian’s hand and slammed violently into the ground.
With a deafening “boom,” the heavy marble floor split in two, revealing the earth beneatha testament to the immense force.
Yu Wei’s blade was trapped tightly under Tang Tian’s palm, immovable. Tang Tian stretched his neck, baring his fangs and drooling foul saliva, aiming to sink his teeth into Yu Wei.
If he could bite into Yu Wei’s artery and drain him dry, no matter how skilled Yu Wei was in combat, he would be rendered powerless.
Yu Wei leaned back, dodging the fang assault.
Simultaneously, using the anchored blade as a pivot, he exerted force, swinging his legs in a fierce kick aimed at Tang Tian’s head.
In daily life, Yu Wei primarily wielded a blade, but he never neglected physical trainingmilitary combat drills went without saying, and he was also quite accomplished in leg techniques.
When Shen Huaizhou practiced Hidden Flower Under the Leaf, he often sparred with Yu Wei.
A rapid and cunning series of leg strikes followed, forcing Tang Tian to dodge left and right until his movements became disordered.
Left with no choice, Tang Tian released Yu Wei’s blade and retreated, allowing Yu Wei to reclaim his weapon.
Yu Wei raised his blade with a cold sneer: “All you ever think about are crooked shortcuts, never willing to settle down and study true skills. No matter how flashy you decorate yourself, it’s utterly useless.”
Tang Tian leaped back and stood where his severed palm had fallen, chuckling darkly.
After picking up the arm Yu Wei had chopped off, he wordlessly stuffed it into his mouth.
Within moments, Tang Tian had swallowed his own severed hand back into his stomach.
A flicker of shock and sorrow finally appeared on Yu Wei’s usually gentle face, though his expression quickly returned to stern composure as he advanced with his blade.
Both publicly and privately, he couldn’t allow Tang Tian to leave this place alive today.
Tang Tian had become a complete monster who must not be permitted to continue harming the world.
The two engaged in combat once more.
Though Yu Wei’s leg injury was serious, Tang Tian remained unable to withstand his fierce assaults.
For a time, they fought to a stalemate, neither gaining the upper hand.
The office screens, rockeries, and floor were swept through – some shattered, others collapsed.
Plants corroded by toxin, floors destroyed by violence, the incessant sounds of collapsing objects and splintering wood all testified to the brutality of this battle.
When Yu Wei blocked Tang Tian’s attack with his blade, Tang Tian’s wrist suddenly extended, growing longer and larger.
The elongated palm bypassed the broadsword’s defense, striking directly at Yu Wei’s heart.
Seeing the danger, Yu Wei twisted aside to avoid vital points.
But they were too close – even as Yu Wei dodged, the palm strike’s force heavily impacted his chest.
Three ribs instantly fractured as Yu Wei spat out a mouthful of blood.
Tang Tian’s nails tore through Yu Wei’s chest, the toxin carried on their tips invading the wound with a searing, burning pain as if flames were consuming the injured flesh.
Seizing the advantage, Tang Tian pressed his attack relentlessly, scratching and clawing without pause.
Yu Wei’s broadsword was knocked away, leaving him weaponless and struggling. He could only draw a military knife from his leg strap to continue defending against Tang Tian’s assaults.
Tang Tian’s attacks grew increasingly ferocious. Like a general on the verge of victory, his morale soared while his expression turned increasingly manic. Meanwhile, Yu Wei resembled a defeated stray dog – ever since Tang Tian’s successful sneak attack, he had deflated like a punctured balloon, shrinking and weakening until Tang Tian finally landed a kick square on his chest.
Yu Wei flew through the air like a kite, his body crashing heavily against the courtyard wall before bouncing off and rolling twice on the ground before lying completely still.
The Yu Wei now visible was covered in bloodstains, showing no signs of breathing.
Pooled water mixed with blood on the floor, creating pale red streams that meandered and spread across the surface – a horrifically tragic sight.
Panting heavily, Tang Tian stared at Yu Wei’s motionless body for a long moment before bursting into loud laughter: “Master, I told you – you’ve grown old. You can’t defeat me anymore.”
“You never told jokes, but you’ve become one,” Tang Tian nearly laughed himself to tears.
“I merely extended the arm I devoured onto my other intact hand, and just like that, I broke through your defense. People really shouldn’t refuse to acknowledge their aging.”
“Now, let me chop off your hand and use your fingerprint to open the third-floor Shrine’s door.” Tang Tian laughed as he approached Yu Wei, “Master, I’ve been waiting for this moment for a very, very long time. As long as I can take away one Shrine, The Eleventh Citadel will reward me accordingly.”
“You lost my River God, so it’s only fair that I take one of your Shrines, isn’t it?”
Tang Tian’s body gradually shed its zombie-like transformation.
He wore clothes that could no longer properly cover him, yet his expression revealed the arrogance and triumph of a victor as he walked up to Yu Wei, bent down, and prepared to claim his prize.
He intended to twist off Yu Wei’s index finger to open the third-floor door.
But to his surprise, the moment Tang Tian bent over, Yu Weiwho had been lying with his eyes shutsuddenly snapped them open.
Seizing the opportunity while Tang Tian was bent over and defenseless, Yu Wei decisively swung his combat knife at Tang Tian’s head.
By the time Tang Tian realized something was wrong and tried to evade, it was already too late.
He was still struck by Yu Wei’s sudden attack, which sliced off half of his skull.
The white, tofu-like brain matter inside instantly spilled out.
