Chapter 9
The footsteps closely following Xie Qingling abruptly ceased.
The relentless, life-threatening surrounding demonic sounds finally stopped their harassment.
The Rakshasa Ghost halted not far from Xie Qingling, then turned and dragged its heavy footsteps away from her step by step.
She was safe.
The Rakshasa Ghost had temporarily given up on her as a delicious nourishment.
Yet, instead of feeling relieved, Xie Qingling’s delicate eyebrows furrowed even tighter.
The Rakshasa Ghost abandoning its persistent pursuit didn’t mean the problem was solved.
In this university, there were approximately ten thousand permanent residents, most of whom were defenseless students.
Facing the ferocious Rakshasa Ghost, they were utterly like lambs waiting for slaughter.
If the Rakshasa Ghost were allowed to leave the University Student Activity Center and enter the dormitory buildings, Xie Qingling could imagine how bloody the night would become.
The risk had merely shifted from her to others how could she possibly feel fortunate for escaping danger herself?
Not to mention distant consequences, just considering the immediate situation…
In this University Student Activity Center, besides her, there was another human… right?
Dong Jia was so timid had she run away or hidden somewhere?
Xie Qingling had no way of knowing.
But she was certain that releasing this Rakshasa Ghost would inevitably end with someone’s bloodshed tonight.
Having grown up as an orphan, Xie Qingling hadn’t developed any peculiar obsessive traits. Instead, she maintained psychological health and positive outlook.
Dean Mama had treated her well—Xie Qingling’s childhood had been as carefree as any ordinary child from a complete family. Supported by social welfare, she had grown up properly, successfully earned her degree, and was soon to graduate.
As a psychologically healthy young adult, Xie Qingling couldn’t stand idly by while lives hung in the balance.
[The angry and anxious Rakshasa Ghost still prowled, catching a scent that didn’t belong to a Psychic yet was equally delectable. Another human existed within this massive building. It decided to change hunting targets and pursue the truly defenseless human.]
[If it could devour one human, restore its vision, and retrieve its lost Ghost Blade, victory would ultimately belong to it again!]
So Dong Jia was still here!
At the very least, she had to strive for something.
For instance, preventing the Rakshasa Ghost from leaving the University Student Activity Center, or helping Dong Jia escape quickly!
Xie Qingling pulled out her phone, intending to contact Dong Jia and tell her to find a safe hiding place.
But when she checked her phone, she discovered there was no signal.
Xie Qingling quickly realized what was happening—
She was currently trapped in the Crossroad Ghost’s illusion, while Dong Jia carried the Bewitching Grain Branch. Though both were in the University Student Activity Center, they existed in separate dimensions.
Some force had isolated them from each other.
To contact Dong Jia, she first needed to break the Crossroad Ghost’s illusion.
Xie Qingling immediately moved, planning to return to the multimedia classroom to retrieve the Bewitching Grain Branch she had discarded.
If she remembered correctly, the multimedia classroom was quite close to her current location.
However, Xie Qingling had miscalculated.
Within the Crossroad Ghost’s illusion, this building wasn’t the actual building, and this path wasn’t the true path.
All paths traveled and all scenery witnessed followed no discernible pattern, making it impossible to retrace them from memory. Everything had descended into chaotic disorder. When Xie Qingling tried to retrace her steps, she could no longer find the multimedia classroom.
No—she couldn’t just sit and wait for death. There had to be another way.
Dong Jia was still waiting for her. She needed to find a way to break the illusions surrounding them as quickly as possible.
Xie Qingling unconsciously bit her lower lip, feeling the weight of pressure.
Even when facing the Rakshasa Ghost alone, she hadn’t felt this burden.
Just then, a flash of cold, sinister light caught her eye.
It was a bone-white object, lying blatantly at the corner of the hallway as if waiting for someone to pick it up.
That thing was
A blade!
The Rakshasa ghost blade of the Rakshasa Ghost!
Xie Qingling hurried over and indeed found the massive cleaver lying on the ground.
The blade was crafted from bone, lacking the sharpness of metal weapons but radiating an intimidating, murderous aura. Just looking at it sent involuntary shivers down one’s spine.
The Rakshasa Ghost had lost its ghost blade.
After a moment’s thought, Xie Qingling bent down, picked up the ghost blade, and gripped it in her hand.
The hilt was icy cold, like holding a block of ice, but fortunately, she could hold it firmly!
[Forged from the leg bone of a Rakshasa Ghost, honed through countless sharpenings, it has become a weapon capable of harvesting lives. Over millennia, countless souls have fallen beneath this blade.]
[Its pristine white blade is stained with the deepest shades of blood. Saturated with bloodlust, it possesses the power to break through evil forces. This blade can kill not only humans but also ghosts.]
[Fortune has favored you once more, granting you another thread of survival. If you can wield this blade, it may ultimately fulfill your wish to turn against its master.]
Good. Perfect.
Since mortal blades couldn’t harm the Rakshasa Ghost in the slightest, she would try this one instead.
The blade was heavy; Xie Qingling estimated it weighed around 30 to 40 jin.
With her arm strength, she couldn’t lift it with one hand.
So, she had to grip the hilt with both hands and drag the blade along the ground as she walked.
Scrape—scrape—scrape— the sound of heavy metal scraping against the floor was jarring and unpleasant.
Yet now, the tables had turned. Xie Qingling had become the one dragging the blade, like a butcher.
The Rakshasa Ghost was searching for Dong Jia in the university student activity center, while Xie Qingling, dragging the blade, was hunting the Rakshasa Ghost.
Unlike agile, stealthy humans, the Rakshasa Ghost was tall and clumsy, its movements inadvertently revealing its location.
Xie Qingling quickly pinpointed the Rakshasa Ghost’s coordinates.
The blind Rakshasa Ghost stumbled around, searching for the tonic that could replenish its energy.
It remained completely unaware of the danger approaching from behind.
[Brave, reckless, insane—truly worthy of you, Psychic.]
[You have finally raised a slaughtering blade against a ghost. Though you may not have fully awakened yet, the instincts flowing through your blood have driven you to make this choice. You have taken up the blade.]
[Do not look back. Go and fight.]
Dong Jia was curled up beneath the lectern in one of the classrooms.
The dark, cramped space gave her a slight sense of security.
She had no idea what was happening outside, but judging by the vibrations in the floor and the occasional loud crashes, the battle must have been brutal.
She wondered how Xie Qingling was doing…
Dong Jia’s thoughts drifted aimlessly, her heart filled with unease.
She wanted to run out, but she couldn’t muster enough courage. She was afraid that if she stepped out, she might run headlong into a massive creature, and leaving the area where Xie Qingling was might put her in even greater danger.
Amidst these fears, worry for Xie Qingling also gnawed at her.
That enormous monster—had Xie Qingling managed to escape? She had said the monster was targeting her. Xie Qingling must not come to harm!
Dong Jia prayed silently, pleading in her heart.
The intermittent screeching sound came and went, stopping and starting.
What was even more terrifying was that the noise was getting closer and closer…
Was it coming for her?
She was on the second floor, and from the sound of it, the screeching had moved from the floor above to this one.
Dong Jia’s face turned pale with terror, her whole body trembling.
Clearly, she couldn’t rely on her roommate to miraculously appear and save her now. She had to depend on herself.
Taking a deep breath, Dong Jia shakily crawled out from under the lectern. Hunched over, she crept quietly to the window by the classroom door and peered outside
What she saw left her stunned, unable to react.
Because the person dragging a blade along the floor, creating that ear-piercing noise as they ran wildly, was not the enormous, terrifying monster Dong Jia had imagined. Instead, it was her seemingly fragile roommate, Xie Qingling.
Dong Jia had no idea what was going on.
She watched as Xie Qingling dragged the blade past her, but Xie Qingling seemed completely unaware of her presence, charging forward with her head down as if chasing something.
How had that massive cleaver ended up in Xie Qingling’s hands, becoming her weapon?!
Since when was Xie Qingling this fierce?
Dong Jia felt a wave of dizziness but also a sense of relief.
She tried to get Xie Qingling’s attention, but Xie Qingling kept charging ahead, still not noticing her.
…Xie Qingling no longer had the Bewitching Grain Branch.
It seemed she was trapped in an illusion.
Dong Jia quickly grasped the situation. Just as Xie Qingling was about to run another aimless lap, Dong Jia rushed forward and grabbed her hand.
In an instant, the Crossroad Ghost’s illusion shattered.
Xie Qingling saw Dong Jia.
[Under your relentless pursuit, the Rakshasa Ghost was terrified out of its wits. As the creator of the Rakshasa ghost blade, it understood the weapon’s power all too well. Enraged and horrified that its own ghost blade had become a Psychic’s weapon, the Rakshasa Ghost no longer dared to underestimate its prey. Convinced it stood no chance, it panicked and decided to flee immediately.]
At that moment, Xie Qingling’s face was as pale as paper, beads of sweat glistening on her temples from the intense exertion.
She stared blankly at Dong Jia for a full two seconds, her vision distorted as reality and illusion overlapped and swirled together, making her dizzy. Only after blinking did everything return to normal.
“Jiajia, help me,” Xie Qingling said.
Dong Jia nodded.
Xie Qingling asked Dong Jia to help her lift the heavy ghost blade, and the grating screeching sound finally ceased.
But with Dong Jia’s help, Xie Qingling rushed toward the entrance of the university student activity center at a faster pace than before.
She stopped and stood firmly in place.
“The Rakshasa Ghost is trying to escape,” Xie Qingling said. “I can’t let it get out. Help me.”
Dong Jia didn’t know what she intended to do but nodded anyway.
She followed Xie Qingling’s instructions completely.
At that moment, Xie Qingling crouched by the door, placing the massive Rakshasa ghost blade horizontally across the entrance, perfectly blocking the entire doorway. The blade was raised about five centimeters above the ground, with its edge tilted inward.
Xie Qingling gripped the hilt, while Dong Jia held the tip.
The two girls waited quietly like this.
Dong Jia wanted to ask but didn’t dare, afraid that making any noise might disrupt Xie Qingling’s plan.
And so, time passed second by second—perhaps a minute, or maybe less.
Suddenly, Dong Jia felt an immense force slam directly into the blade’s edge!
But it lasted only an instant before vanishing. Dong Jia sensed that the blade had seemingly severed something intangible.
Bright red droplets of blood instantly splattered across the pristine blade.
Then, with a loud “boom,” the ground shook violently, startling Dong Jia into stumbling backward.
Xie Qingling, meanwhile, yanked the blade out with great force, her face contorted fiercely from the exertion.
She struggled to lift the heavy cleaver and shouted, “I’ll cut off your head!”
