Chapter 35

“I’ll kill you! I’ll kill you!” The Huapi Ghost, repeatedly provoked by Xie Qingling, wished it could devour her flesh and blood.

It clenched its hands in fury, its mangled body suddenly lifting into the air before diving swiftly toward Xie Qingling.

Xie Qingling retreated rapidly

But unexpectedly, the Huapi Ghost only feigned an attack as a diversion. It abruptly changed direction mid-air, charging toward the convenience store.

Xie Qingling drew Blood Oath and pursued.

Soon, angry shrieks from the Huapi Ghost echoed from the convenience store, accompanied by sounds of violent destruction.

“Why?! Why?!” The Huapi Ghost’s featureless, bloody face showed disbelief as it roared furiously, “Why is it gone?!”

Xie Qingling, who had followed close behind, saw the completely smashed counter in the empty store and asked, “What do you mean why? What’s gone?”

“Are you… looking for hostages?” Xie Qingling said. “Is that the only trick you Huapi Ghosts know? But there are no hostages here.”

“When I bought water earlier, I already had the shopkeeper escape in advance. And…” Xie Qingling smiled as she heard Dai Xingyu’s voice through her earpiece confirming the area was cleared, “I’m not fighting alone.”

“You I’ll kill you!” The Huapi Ghost, who had always specialized in manipulating human psychology, found itself thoroughly outmaneuvered by a human for the first time.

Enraged beyond measure, it resolved to kill Xie Qingling, then skin her to make a lantern, forcing her soul to endure eternal burning flames even after death only such torment could vent its fury!

“Come on, perfect timing I want to kill you too.” Xie Qingling instantly unleashed her Killing Field.

Gripping Blood Oath, she used the counter as a springboard, leaping into the air with her blade aimed straight at the ghost’s throat.

Yet the feeling was still wrong her blade didn’t connect with its throat as intended, failing to silence the ghost. It continued to emit its mind-bewitching wails.

The sensation remained deeply unsettling the Huapi Ghost’s hypnotic tricks were constantly active, distorting human perception and reason.

The Huapi Ghost laughed maniacally, “Is this all you’ve got? I’m not as stupid as Mother, to let you slash my throat!”

“I know,” Xie Qingling said. “That’s why my target was never your throat but your eyes.”

As soon as she spoke, the ghost’s cackling ceased abruptly.

A sharp pain struck its eye, plunging its left eye into darkness.

Its eye had been slashed!

Losing one eye made the Huapi Ghost stagger unsteadily.

“Because you’re so desperate to protect your throat that enables your Illusion, when my blade aims there, you’ll defend with everything neglecting other areas. But eyes are equally important.” Xie Qingling twisted the hilt of Blood Oath, preparing to strike again.

This time, the Huapi Ghost flinched in panic.

This woman was more terrifying than it had imagined.

No matter how I move, no matter what moves I use, she sees through everything!

This feeling of being completely outmaneuvered is utterly dreadful.

The Huapi Ghost retreated two steps, wanting to flee.

With intelligence surpassing other spirits, the Huapi Ghost valued its life dearly and understood the wisdom of retreat being the best strategy.

However, after just two steps back, it stopped this futile action.

It knew it was trapped in the Killing Field.

In the Killing Field, it’s either you die or I perish.

There was no way out.

From the moment it took this “shortcut,” this woman had calculated everything.

For the first time, the Huapi Ghost experienced bone-chilling cold, its entire body freezing.

No, it refused to accept being outsmarted like this.

There was one last move this move must turn defeat into victory and kill this detestable woman!

The Huapi Ghost gathered all its strength and let out a piercing shriek from its throat.

It would use Illusion to trap Xie Qingling, then strike her down when her psychological defenses crumbled.

Didn’t humans have morals?

Then let her taste the Illusionary Realm it had specially woven.

Let it see how Xie Qingling would handle it.

Morality those layered shackles binding humanity could only bring disaster!

“Sister, sister, come play with me.” Yang Xianxian, wearing her pure white ballet costume, tugged at Xie Qingling’s hand and pleaded, “Mom and Dad are dead. I’m so pitiful, with no one to keep me company. Sister, please play with me.”

She cried pitifully, her child’s fair, tender face streaked with tears.

She looked at Xie Qingling, spreading her lotus-root-like arms as if craving an adult’s warm embrace: “Sister, sister, hold me. My mom and dad left me. No one can hold me anymore.Yu Wei crouched on the ground, persuading Xie Qingling: “Qingling, put down the knife. Your blade is terrifying you’re scaring the child.”

“Xianxian is about the same age as my daughter. They’re so young and understand nothing. Put down Blood Oath. Don’t be stubborn. Don’t frighten the child.”

And standing before Xie Qingling was Jiang Lvlv, who had previously gone missing.

Jiang Lvlv looked deathly pale, her face ashen.

Suddenly, she collapsed to the ground, one hand clutching her chest, appearing to be in extreme agony.

She reached out toward Xie Qingling, her body convulsing uncontrollably, her voice hoarse as she cried: “Save me… Qingling, save me… Come here, Qingling… I’m here, in so much pain… Come save me…”

Xie Qingling’s eyes flickered, finally seeing the Jiang Lvlv she had been worried about.

“Lvlv, you’re safe. That’s wonderful,” Xie Qingling said, a faint smile appearing on her face.

All three of them smiled, looking immensely relieved.

See? She was already ensnared by the Illusionary Realm.

Watching Xie Qingling, completely unaware of her surroundings and immersed in her own world, the Huapi Ghost revealed a sinister smile.

But it still didn’t dare approach Xie Qingling’s body too recklessly.

After suffering repeated defeats at Xie Qingling’s hands, the Huapi Ghost knew just how deceptive this woman could be.

After waiting quietly for a while, Xie Qingling remained immersed in the Illusionary Realm.

She was indeed trapped by it.

The Huapi Ghost quietly approached her.

It must, it absolutely must seize this moment while she hadn’t regained her senses one hand gripping her spine, the other digging out her brainstem, then peeling off her skin.

This way, Xie Qingling would die thoroughly, without a trace of vitality left.

It would definitely use her skin to make a lantern!

Thinking this, the Huapi Ghost finally crept behind Xie Qingling.

And Xie Qingling still stood there dazedly, motionless, as if unaware of the impending danger behind her.

Good, keep it up, soon you will meet your death!

The Huapi Ghost’s eyes widened, one hand seizing Xie Qingling’s neck while the other prepared to strike. But the next moment, the supposedly trapped Xie Qingling suddenly twisted her blade, thrusting straight toward the Huapi Ghost’s throat.

Deceived!

The Huapi Ghost abruptly realized it had fallen for Xie Qingling’s trick, but it was too late.

At such close range, their bodies nearly pressed together, there was no possibility of missing.

It had actually delivered itself to her doorstep, allowing Xie Qingling to strike its most vulnerable spot!!

With a “swish,” the blade swept horizontally, cleanly slicing open a wound across the Huapi Ghost’s throat.

“Heh ” It only managed to let out this brief cry before falling completely silent.

Clutching its leaking windpipe, it staggered backward, staring at Xie Qingling in terror as if asking: Weren’t you under the control of my Illusion?

Xie Qingling turned to face it and asked, “Are you very surprised?”

The Huapi Ghost wore an expression of sheer disbelief.

“Your Illusion is too fake, completely illogical… Besides, it’s just you and me here. No matter how elaborately you fabricate it, I won’t believe it.”

Pausing briefly, Xie Qingling continued as if suddenly enlightened: “So that’s it. You wanted to exploit my soft-heartedness to distract me, so you could launch a sneak attack.”

“But how did you know I would necessarily be soft-hearted? Why would I feel tender toward false constructs?” As her words fell, Xie Qingling’s voice turned cold. She suddenly charged forward, instantly closing the distance to stand before the Huapi Ghost.

If you fear being controlled by Illusions, then let reason fully command your mind allow no emotion. Since you know everything is false, just destroy it all

Xie Qingling raised her Blood Oath high, and as it descended, it took another of the Huapi Ghost’s eyes.

A flash of bloodlight passed, and thereafter, the Huapi Ghost’s world was left in permanent darkness.

On the Blood Oath, the character “Zun” engraved by Ling Fang also drank blood with that strike. The slightly recessed symbol seemed filled with red pigment, spreading thin red lines.

Though only a small portion just the top radical of “尊” was stained red over time, this vessel would surely store enough “blood qi” to be released later.

“Heh… heh…” The Huapi Ghost completely panicked, now incapable of mustering any will to resist.

It only wanted to escape, to flee as far as possible.

But now, without eyes or a throat, it was nothing more than a piece of meat waiting to be carved up.

The Huapi Ghost soon couldn’t run anymore.

Because Xie Qingling had severed its two legs.

At the ankles, both feet detached from the Huapi Ghost’s body.

It crashed heavily to the ground, its face slamming into a muddy puddle, a sight too gruesome to behold.

No, no, don’t kill it.

The Huapi Ghost put on a pitiful, weeping act, mimicking human behavior as it knelt on the ground, kowtowing to Xie Qingling, clasping its hands together, unsure of what to say.

“Heh, heh… ah, ah…” By now, the Huapi Ghost could only emit a few pitiful monosyllables.

Xie Qingling watched it, her knife still tightly gripped in her hand.

After careful observation, Xie Qingling noticed the Huapi Ghost’s lips struggling to form a word:

Lvlv.

Jiang Lvlv.

It was saying Jiang Lvlv.

Was it trying to use Jiang Lvlv’s whereabouts to bargain for its own life?

Xie Qingling paused and asked, “Are you trying to tell me where Lvlv is?”

The Huapi Ghost nodded frantically, as if it had glimpsed a chance at survival.

“You hid her away.”

The Huapi Ghost continued nodding.

“You want to tell me that if I spare your life, my friend will survive, right?”

The Huapi Ghost kept nodding wildly.

Xie Qingling said, “Then… why don’t you guess why I’ve been so long-winded, talking to you so much along the way?”

The Huapi Ghost clearly couldn’t figure it out; its featureless face showed a confused expression.

“Of course, it was to buy time, you idiot!” Xie Qingling stepped closer to it. “It seems you have no remorse for what you’ve done.”

“The first time, when the department head sent us to the law firm, you anxiously tried to stop us. Even though you pointed us in the right direction, it was still suspicious.”

“The second time, after we finally eliminated the Huapi Ghost in the underground parking lot, you insisted on going back to the law firm to retrieve something. After all that had happened, you still dared to return to the law firm instead of fleeing to safety. Don’t you think your behavior was full of holes?”

“So let me guess, is there something in the law firm you didn’t want us to see? Were you in such a hurry to go back to silence someone?”

Ignoring the Huapi Ghost’s terrified expression, Xie Qingling tapped her earpiece and asked, “Department Head, have you found Jiang Lvlv?”

“Found her. She was in the storage room of the law firm, already unconscious. She’s being taken to the hospital for emergency treatment now.”

“Good.” Xie Qingling ended the call.

She said, “Then I can kill you without any worries.”
