- Chapter 4 - The Stream Where the Alchemist Elf is Astonished by the Magical Stove Crafting
“So, as I was saying, today we’re fulfilling a request from the owner of the local tavern and making a Magical Stove!”
As Tarata started watching, an incredibly high-energy woman was announcing the plan for the stream. It seemed the stream had already started, but since she’d begun watching it as a sleep aid anyway, Tarata figured it was fine and decided to keep watching.
(The girl standing next to her is… Huh?! Is that… a golem?)
Her drowsiness vanished instantly. The golem standing beside the streamer was just so impeccably crafted. Its level of completion was so high it could almost be mistaken for a real human.
Golems were artificial dolls created by alchemists. Though called dolls, their sizes varied immensely, from literal doll-sized creations to ones larger than buildings.
Their primary purpose was to assist with simple tasks, and most were specialized for a single function. The more complex the command formulas written into them, the longer their processing time, rendering them useless. That was how they were typically utilized.
However, the golem in this stream was smiling at its creator, its alchemist Master, just like a human would. The simple act of ‘smiling,’ while seemingly trivial, was astonishing from an alchemist’s perspective. Just controlling the shape and position of the eyes and mouth—even achieving that alone required inputting an immense amount of command formulas. Furthermore, making it happen instantly at the perfect speed to appear natural was nothing short of godlike technique.
“The golem’s design, and furthermore, the advanced command formulas required to make it ‘smile’… Just who is this alchemist?”
Forgetting her original purpose of falling asleep, Tarata found herself completely absorbed in the stream.
“—-Okay, with the steps above, the prep work is complete!”
“Whoops!”
Too engrossed in the golem, Tarata had completely missed what the alchemist named ‘Alkemy,’ working beside it, had been doing. Hurriedly shifting her gaze, she saw the streamer holding a thin sheet of metal.
“Was that the Magical Stove…?”
The thin metal sheet didn’t match Tarata’s image of a Magical Stove at all. The ones she knew were cooking appliances that used fire generated from a fire-attribute magic stone, fanned by a wind-attribute magical tool. They definitely weren’t supposed to be flimsy metal plates like that.
“That couldn’t possibly be a Magical Stove, and yet…”
Her mind told her it wasn’t a Magical Stove, but for some reason, she couldn’t look away… While she was lost in thought, ‘Alkemy’ began working quickly on the thin plate with practiced hands.
She drew two large circles on the flat metal sheet, then drew smaller circles inside those. In no time at all, two sets of triple-layered circles were complete. Tarata watched, utterly captivated.
“Alright, now it’s time to inscribe the magic patterns!”
“Magic patterns…!!”
Tarata involuntarily gulped.
—-Magical Enchantment.
The very alchemical art Tarata yearned for, the one that had prompted her to leave the elven forest at the tender age of fifteen.
Forget about that, BOOBS! BOOBS!
“Ah, looks like everyone really does love boobs~. Alrighty, Beta-chan! Service time! Fill the screen with boobs while I do the enchanting!”
“You damn— Are you kidding me?!”
The magical enchanting, the part she wanted to see most, was completely obscured thanks to some boob-obsessed viewers.
About ten minutes later, the magically enchanted Magical Stove reappeared on screen.
“I wanted to see that…”
She frantically typed ‘Show the enchanting!’ into the chat, but it was too late. Lost in the flood of comments from viewers interested only in breasts, Tarata’s message unfortunately went unnoticed.
“Still, the finished product was quite impressive.”
Magical enchanting involved inscribing specific magical patterns, essentially, magic circles. It was a crucial process; if the lines were warped or the grooves weren’t etched to a uniform depth, the effect could be halved, or worse, the item might not function at all. And the enchanting done by ‘Alkemy’ featured magic circles more beautifully inscribed than any Tarata had ever seen.
“Finally, we place a lightning-attribute magic stone, and it’s complete!”
“A lightning-attribute magic stone? Such a rare stone?”
Magic stones were essential items for alchemists, found either within the bodies of magical beasts or excavated from specific mountains. While magic stones possessed various attributes, those housing the five basic magical elements—’Fire,’ ‘Water,’ ‘Wind,’ ‘Light,’ and ‘Dark’—were said to be relatively common. However, stones with attributes other than these five were considerably harder to obtain, making lightning-attribute magic stones quite rare.
“I’ve never even seen one myself. This should be interesting.”
She really needed to sleep soon, or it would affect her work tomorrow. She decided she’d watch Alkemy place the lightning magic stone, and then call it a night—
“Beta-chan, prepare to fire, Thunder Ball!”
“Understood, Master.”
“Eh?”
“Thunder Ball, launching!”
“Whoop, there! Oh, thanks! Now, just gotta turn this into a magic stone and—”
“Did that golem just cast magic— Huh? Is she… creating a magic stone right now…?”
A golem casting magic, and then catching that magic to transform it into a magic stone—both acts were utterly impossible according to Tarata’s understanding of the world. While performing the incredible feat of creating a magic stone, ‘Alkemy’ handled it as if it were perfectly normal, slotted the newly created lightning-attribute stone into place, and announced the Magical Stove’s completion. As if performing an operational test, she activated the stove, and—
Boof!!
“Oh, it lit up properly! Okay, so that’s it for today’s stream— Hyaaah?! Don’t suddenly glomp me, Beta-cha—”
The stream ended abruptly, just as it looked like the golem was pinning ‘Alkemy’ down again.
“Wha?! That’s the end?! How did she make the magic stone?! She called it a Magical Stove, but how does that thin plate produce fire?! What’s the principle behind this?!”
“Tell me more, ‘Alkemy’! Alkemy!!”
All thoughts of sleeping early for work had vanished from Tarata’s mind. Desperate for any scrap of information, she started binge-watching ‘Alkemy’s’ archives—
—-And ended up being incredibly late for work the next day.
