- Chapter 15 - The Stream About How Her Talent Is Insanely Good
Reluctantly, I, Susuria, had ended up taking on a disciple. Just like with Scottish-san’s contract stream, the fact that I was taking on a disciple had already been broadcast via Tarata’s stream, so backing out now was probably impossible.
“Well, for now, the dungeon was the priority. We were entering an alternate dimension, so turn off the stream.”
“No, I shall continue it as is, I declared!”
Wha?!
Whoa whoa whoa whoa
Shouldn’t streaming be impossible inside a dungeon?
Also what stream is this that just started outta nowhere?
Um, it saysDungeon Stream?
But you can’t stream in a dungeon…
“The comments were going wild, but…”
“Ah, that was correct, it was! Click, it was!”
As Tarata-chan pressed a button, the comment screen vanished from before me. She had probably made it so I couldn’t see the comments. I rarely did it, but there were streams where the host didn’t interact with comments at all. Was that what Tarata-chan was going for?
“Using alchemy, I had devised a method to stream footage from within a dungeon, I declared! This time, while accompanying my master into the dungeon as her disciple, I intended to conduct a test!”
“Hoho. That was indeed an interesting endeavor.”
If I talked about the detailed mechanics, someone might try to copy it like with the katana-forging stream the other day, so I confirmed it via a simple memo she had handed me.
(I saw, a router, huh.)
Her proposal was for a magical device similar to what would have been called a relay router in my previous life. Just like a router boosted a weak computer signal to connect, the magical device Tarata-chan prototyped seemed to work on the principle of amplifying the stream’s signal to forcibly connect the inside and outside of the dungeon. With this method, it might indeed be possible to stream even from within a dungeon—.
From my perspective as an alchemist, judging by the quality and magnitude of its magical power, this dungeon was likely a small-scale one of about 10 floors. For a medium-scale dungeon of 30 floors or more, according to this memo, her device might still have been too weak. But for this small-scale dungeon, if it functioned properly, it should be able to serve its role as a router and connect to the outside.
A surprising magical device, good enough to be commercialized.
However, what surprised me even more was that she, without any memories of a previous life, had managed to bring this idea to the prototype stage.
Even I only thought of it after seeing this memo and with the aid of my past-life memories. Yet, Tarata-chan had reached this point with no such knowledge. As an alchemist, to possess not only alchemical talent but also this kind of imaginative power… it made me feel even more unworthy to be the master of such a hobbyist.
“Incidentally, my objective was success if the footage taken from within the dungeon appeared on the stream in real-time. If it took more than 10 seconds, it would require further verification, it was.”
“Make it 60 seconds or more. Your initial goal was way too high…”
First off, we didn’t even know if it would connect to the stream. Even routers in my previous life commonly had delays of several seconds. Aiming for under 10 seconds on the very first test was just being overly ambitious.
“Well, whatever. If you didn’t have a specific target floor, I wanted to gather golem materials around the 6th floor.”
“And, Master, what weapon would you be using in the dungeon? I would be using a sword.”
As she said that, she showed me a sword densely packed with magical enchantments. Incidentally, it was common for alchemists to possess some form of martial skill, not only for their alchemical talent but also with an eye towards gathering their own materials.
Gathering the materials used in alchemy, doing everything by oneself—that was the starting point for an alchemist. Well, in my case, I used a golem named Delta-chan to handle tedious material gathering and secure my time, so that was another way of doing things.
“Today, I thought I’d dive into the dungeon partly to test-cut a new blade.”
I showed her my main weapon for this excursion, the katana I’d made during that smithing stream, drawing it from its sheath.
Although I gave weapons to Delta-chan and had her gather materials, I still had my policies as an alchemist. That was, to ascertain the performance of the weapons I created myself. Verifying the performance of one’s own creations—I believed that was the minimum line an alchemist had to uphold, and that was the mindset with which I created Delta-chan’s weapons.
“This time, I had applied a magical enchantment with a rather different approach than usual. As the creator, my plan was to ascertain how strong this weapon was while also gathering materials that could only be found in a dungeon.”
“Beautiful… The hamon is beautiful…”
Tarata-chan looked like she was about to rub her cheek against the blade with an entranced expression. As she was, she would likely cut her cheek, so I used my free hand to push her away slightly and sheathed the katana.
“Ah, what are you doing, Master! I was just about to test its sharpness with my cheek, that is all!”
“That was the kind of idea a crazy person would have, you know.”
(Look, from a creator’s perspective, the hamon emerging on the blade was certainly beautiful, I would admit. But it didn’t make me want to rub my cheek on it. …And I hadn’t put any kind of charm effect on this thing.)
“Well then, instead of standing around talking in front of the dungeon forever, shall we head in?”
“Y-Yes, I shall! Then, from the 1st floor to the target floor at top speed—”
“Hup!”
SHLICK!!
Drawing the katana, I slashed at the dungeon entrance. Simultaneously, the space before my eyes distorted, and a floor teeming with nature appeared.
“Yep, the ‘6th floor appeared’ just fine.”
Seeing the Roman numeral ‘VI’ written on the wall, I celebrated the experiment’s success. Incidentally, such Roman numeral markings indicating the current floor were commonly seen within dungeons. It was a function inherent to dungeons, probably a kind consideration from the entertainment-loving Demon Lord Yuggy, but don’t ask me why he would do such a thing. Yeah.
“Alright, let’s go, Tarata-chan.”
I then proceeded to walk deeper into the dungeon.
“Wai-?! Please tell me more about that katana, I implore you~~!!”
