- Chapter 12 - The Stream Where Delta-chan and I Make a Katana
“And so, for today’s stream, I’ll be joined by my resident martial artist golem, Delta-chan!”
“It is my distinct honor to make your acquaintance. I introduced myself as Delta, responsible for material retrieval. I humbly request your kind regard.”
A strange girl just popped up outta nowhere!?
She has six arms?! What’s with this girl?!
She has a dignified air, a different charm from Beta-chan.
This one’s good too… I can “get off” to this!!
Reported to the guards lol
Alright, so for this stream, instead of the usual Beta-chan, I would be streaming with Delta-chan. After all, since today’s topic was making the katana I would be giving her, it was easier to have her here.
“Today, we’ll be making a type of sword… no, you could even call it a subtype: a ‘katana’!”
Both swords and katanas were weapons used to strike down opponents. However, in alchemy, these two weapons were treated as having vastly different purposes.
A sword was a weapon made sturdy, designed to cut down opponents. Rather than cutting, it was primarily used for thrusting, like in fencing. It was made to be hard enough to withstand repeated blows against tough monster hides—a weapon anyone could wield, so to speak.
A katana, on the other hand, was a weapon that prioritized sharpness to cut opponents. It was a weapon focused on achieving superior cutting power by being made thin and sharp. It was said that a master user could even slice through mountains—a weapon specialized purely for cutting. Conversely, to achieve that sharpness, its structure had to inevitably be thin, meaning it would break easily if not used correctly. It was a weapon that chose its wielder, so to speak.
A katana was undoubtedly a powerful weapon, and if Delta-chan, enhanced by streaming, wielded one, she would become an almost unbeatable, ultimate weapon.
However, it was also a fragile weapon. Besides, there was an alchemical technique in this world called ‘Alloying,’ and if one were so inclined, it was possible to use this process to give a sword itself the same cutting power as a katana.
Even so, there was only one reason I continued to give Delta-chan katanas.
“And so, today, I’ll be alchemizing this weapon of my particular preference, a katana!”
“Affirmative. Activating sound effect:Applause at this juncture.”
Clap clap clap clap!!
“Delta-chan! You don’t need to announce the behind-the-scenes stuff!!”
This is… pure, unadulterated airheadedness!!
We get it even if you don’t say it, so you don’t have to lol
A style that reassures ignorant viewers!!
In a different way from Beta-chan, she looks like she’s gonna leave her own legend behind.
Man, the viewers were so nice… If I’d said something like that back in the early days, I probably would have gotten flamed like crazy…
“Now then, let’s get right to introducing the materials! Delta-chan!”
“The material was magic steel, was it not?”
What Delta-chan prepared was a special metal called magic steel. It was formed when ordinary steel, buried in the ground, absorbed magical power over a long period. Recently, thanks to the power of ‘Alloying,’ it was possible to create it by imbuing steel with magical properties during alchemical processing, so it wasn’t that expensive or rare anymore. The magic steel we were using today was also an artificial product made through such means.
Furthermore, among magic steel, if it was saturated with fire-attribute magical power, it became something like fire magic steel, which possessed magical attributes from the outset. However, that stuff was super-duper rare, and it wasn’t suitable for the katana I wanted to make this time, so I would just use regular magic steel.
“Alright, Delta-chan! Prepare the hammer.”
“Exceedingly assenting, I have understood.”
“Exceedingly assenting + I have understood” lolol
Her speech patterns are too much lol
What IS this girl?!
Looks cool on the surface, but she’s actually the comedy type, huh!
Mhm, mhm, the stream was getting lively, nice. …Though if she got too well-received, it might interfere with my plans to change Delta-chan’s personality settings, so maybe I should stop there.
“Okay, first, I’ll strike the magic steel with the hammer.”
CLANG!!
A dull sound echoed, and simultaneously, the alignment of the magical power within the magic steel began to improve. Good, at this rate, I would align all the magical power within the steel in the same direction.
After about three minutes of getting it all aligned, I announced to the viewers:
“Now then, allow me to show you the true value of a katana.”
