Chapter 63: I Have a Friend

***

Although she had never met Ning Xue in person, over these past few months, she had helped Nan Zha strategize countless times, and while she wouldn’t say she knew Bai Ning’s social relationships like the back of her hand, she knew them pretty well.

From what she understood, Ning Xue should be Bai Ning’s best friend. Although Ning Xue had no power or influence and was just an ordinary person, Bai Ning’s relationship with her could be said to be extremely close.

Originally, it had nothing to do with her, but the moment she saw Ning Xue, a brilliant idea suddenly flashed through her mind.

Over these past few months, she had been teaching Nan Zha how to get along with Bai Ning and how to build a good relationship with her, never thinking of other methods. The result was minimal progress and slow advancement.

Now seeing Ning Xue, she thought of an indirect approach.

Since making progress directly with Bai Ning was slow, she might as well target Bai Ning’s friends, obtain some information about Bai Ning through them, then create an information advantage to further advance Nan Zha’s relationship with Bai Ning.

When hearing Xia Zhichu’s praise of Bai Ning about herself, Ning Xue felt her whole being become dizzy. Originally, she was a very cautious person, but whenever it came to Bai Ning, her mind would easily go blank.

“You’re, you’re too kind. I’m actually not that excellent. Xiao Ning is the one who’s truly a wonderful girl.”

While speaking, her gaze drifted toward the hospital room, but she, who had been quite happy originally, gradually lost her smile when she saw Bai Ning in the hospital gown and the faintly visible bandages.

She didn’t understand why someone would do such things to Bai Ning, who was clearly such a good person, cute, gentle, though a bit scatter-brained, but with a strong sense of justice.

Her breathing gradually quickened, and a hint of coldness appeared in her eyes. This was the first time she hated her own powerlessness so much.

“Are you alright?”

Seeing the change in Ning Xue’s expression, Xia Zhichu was somewhat surprised and asked softly.

“I’m fine, just feeling a bit tired.”

Forcing a smile on her face, Ning Xue replied.

“That’s good. Um, I’d like to discuss something with you.”

Although Ning Xue clearly looked off, with a kind of low-pressure atmosphere, for the sake of her good friend Nan Zha’s lifelong happiness, Xia Zhichu still spoke up, using a consulting tone.

“Discuss something?”

Ning Xue was somewhat puzzled. She was just a poor student, how could it be a young lady’s turn to discuss anything with her?

“Yes,” Xia Zhichu responded, looking somewhat troubled. Seeing Ning Xue’s confused expression, she immediately continued.

“My friend Nan Zha runs a bar that’s currently short a management manager. The previous manager was fired by me due to some issues, and this position has been vacant ever since.”

Hearing Xia Zhichu finish these words, Ning Xue frowned.

“So, you’re planning to…”

“Mm, I’d like to invite you to try it out, because you happen to study management, and since you’re Bai Ning’s friend, I feel more at ease.”

Hearing Xia Zhichu’s words, it seemed quite reasonable, but she felt like this was like a pie falling from the sky.

“I’m sorry, this is a big matter. Let me confirm first.”

“Sure.”

After confirming on her phone that Bai Ning knew Xia Zhichu, Ning Xue chose to accept Xia Zhichu’s invitation.

If it were in the past, with her pride, she probably wouldn’t have chosen to accept, but after experiencing this incident, she realized that her pride was somewhat ridiculous.

With a determined expression, Ning Xue had figured it out.

She wanted to earn money, train her abilities, and have enough capital to protect Bai Ning.

Seeing Ning Xue accept her invitation, Xia Zhichu also appeared very happy.

She suddenly felt she was such a wingman, breaking her heart for Nan Zha’s love.

Her method of building relationships was just that simple. Ning Xue was an ordinary person with poor family circumstances, so she would use her money power to befriend Ning Xue, providing her with some high-paying jobs, then building a closer relationship.

Using Nan Zha’s name to provide this opportunity to Ning Xue, then Ning Xue would praise Nan Zha in front of Bai Ning, and her plan would be accomplished.

“This is my contact information. When you have time, you can tell me. You’re welcome anytime.”

After giving her contact information to Ning Xue, Xia Zhichu walked toward the room somewhat excitedly.

She hadn’t forgotten that her purpose for coming was to see Bai Ning. If she didn’t go take a look, she’d probably get nagged by Nan Zha for ages again.

Watching Xia Zhichu enter the room and start chatting with Bai Ning, Ning Xue lowered her head and stood there for quite a while, finally gripping the business card in her hand tightly and walking step by step toward the exit.

……

Many people came that day, basically all friends that Bai Ning knew, plus some business partners of the Bai family.

Her parents were abroad negotiating an important business deal, but upon hearing that Bai Ning had an accident, they all planned to return.

Later, Bai Ning insisted on doing a video call and walked several circles around the hospital room, almost performing a backflip, talking until her mouth was nearly worn out, finally convincing them to give up the idea of returning.

It had to be said that aside from some unexpected disasters, this female lead’s life was truly too comfortable, a wealthy family, parents who doted on her, caring friends.

Of course, if there weren’t the damn plot correction, she might be even more comfortable.

Thinking about this, Bai Ning’s expression became unpleasant. Just as she was getting a headache over this matter, a voice rang out.

“What’s wrong? You don’t seem to be in a good mood.”

The familiar voice rang in her ears, and Bai Ning was startled, suddenly opening her eyes to look at the newcomer.

“No, nothing, just haven’t woken up properly yet.”

Laughing it off, Bai Ning replied with somewhat evasive eyes.

“Not feeling well? Looks like we need another full-body examination.”

Jiang Xiyue looked at Bai Ning who seemed very busy, the corners of her mouth slightly upturned.

“No no, I feel perfectly fine, no need for you to go through the trouble of another examination.”

Hearing this, Bai Ning’s face turned pale. While speaking, she pulled up the blanket and wrapped herself up tightly.

“Dr. Jiang, please rest early. I’ll take a nap first,” came the muffled voice from under the blanket.

Seeing this scene, Jiang Xiyue chuckled softly, stepped forward, and sat on the nearby chair.

Bai Ning, who was secretly observing Jiang Xiyue through the gaps, began to sweat on her forehead.

She really didn’t want to experience another physical examination. Even if there were no problems, they’d create problems.

Just as she was thinking about how to get Jiang Xiyue to give up on the full-body examination, Jiang Xiyue spoke first, shocking Bai Ning with a single sentence.

“Do you want Nan Ziyue dead?”

She threw off the blanket and suddenly looked up at Jiang Xiyue.

Jiang Xiyue still had that smiling expression, her eyes calm, as if she had just mentioned something completely unimportant.
