Chapter 62: I Thought It Was a Speed Bump

***

“Don’t, don’t cry, this, this time it’s my fault, I definitely won’t hide anything from you in the future.”

Frantically wiping away the tears on Ning Xue’s face with the back of her hand, Bai Ning spoke somewhat incoherently.

“Then, pinky promise.”

Hearing Bai Ning’s words, Ning Xue sniffled and extended her hand.

“Okay.”

Almost instantly, Bai Ning reached out her hand. Although it was somewhat childish, it could comfort Ning Xue.

“I definitely won’t hide anything from you in the future.”

After making the pinky promise, hearing Bai Ning’s words, Ning Xue smiled through her tears. Although she relaxed, her eyes still carried a trace of concern.

She was truly panicked today. The moment she heard Su Youmeng say that Bai Ning might have been in a car accident, she felt as if her soul had left her body and nearly collapsed.

After asking Su Youmeng for the location, she rushed to the hospital without stopping, and only after seeing that Bai Ning was fine did her anxious heart finally settle down.

“What exactly happened yesterday?”

Hearing Ning Xue’s question, Bai Ning replied.

“It was just an accidental car accident. After the banquet ended yesterday, I was heading back when something happened on the mountain road.”

She glossed over the details, but it wasn’t exactly lying to Ning Xue.

After all, on the surface, that’s indeed what happened.

“Really?”

Seeing Ning Xue’s suspicious expression, Bai Ning’s expression became somewhat unnatural.

“Really, what could I lie to you about? If you don’t believe me, you can go ask the truck driver from that time.”

Hearing this, Su Youmeng rolled her eyes. Ask the hundred-ton truck driver? What kind of joke is that?

“I thought it was a speed bump, blind spot in my vision, didn’t see it. Talk to my insurance about it. We’re all trying our best to live.”

She naturally saw through Bai Ning’s concealment. Most people who attended the banquet knew this incident wasn’t simple, but seeing that Bai Ning didn’t seem to want to talk about it, she didn’t force the issue.

“Alright, Ning Xue, Bai Ning just had an accident and still needs to rest. If there’s nothing else, let’s not disturb her.”

Speaking to Ning Xue in front of her, Su Youmeng placed the fruit she was carrying on the side.

If Su Youmeng could see through it, how could Ning Xue not see through it?

But she knew that if Bai Ning didn’t want to say, no matter how she asked, she wouldn’t be able to get anything out of her.

With a smile on her face, Ning Xue chatted with Bai Ning as if nothing had happened.

The morning passed like this in the three people’s conversation, making Bai Ning feel much less bored.

Indeed, having such good best friends is wonderful.

Happily waving goodbye to Ning Xue, Bai Ning couldn’t help but sigh. Her previously unhappy mood from being hospitalized had improved considerably.

[Yes, such good “best friends”!]

Ignoring the system’s teasing, after all, it could turn anything black or white into yellow. Come on, didn’t she understand Ning Xue’s feelings toward her?

That was a good sister, a good best friend, someone she could confide in!

“Stop talking about those irrelevant things. Tell me, how exactly do I do this plot correction you mentioned?”

Just thinking about this matter made Bai Ning’s scalp tingle. She couldn’t really be expected to do these things as a female lead, right? And what exactly needed to be done, she was completely clueless.

She was good at causing trouble, but asking her to fix things was out of the question.

System: [Actually, it’s not that big of a deal. At most, it’s just issuing some tasks at specific plot locations to ensure the proper relationship between the female lead and the villainess]

Hearing the last sentence gave Bai Ning an ominous feeling. She swallowed and asked tentatively.

“For example?”

System: [Do things that would make the villainess want to bully you]

The corner of her mouth twitched slightly, and Bai Ning became resigned, her expression calm.

I’m tired, let it all be destroyed.

They really thought she was living too comfortably, didn’t they?

……

Outside the hospital corridor, watching Bai Ning’s happy expression, Ning Xue’s mood wasn’t so calm.

Clenching her fists tightly, there seemed to be a rage inside her that couldn’t be vented.

She was just an ordinary person, not even qualifying as ordinary. Without money or power, her life wasn’t good. Compared to those wealthy and powerful people, she couldn’t even catch their attention.

She couldn’t do anything.

Wanting to know the truth, the person who had a grudge against Bai Ning was definitely not ordinary. Bai Ning probably didn’t tell her because she was worried she’d do something foolish, but even if she knew, what could she do?

For ordinary people to achieve class mobility was such a long and difficult thing, impossible to accomplish in a short time. In the end, she still needed money. As long as she had money, she could do anything.

“Excuse me, are you Ning Xue?”

A surprised voice came from the side. Ning Xue looked up and saw an unfamiliar woman she’d never seen before, beautiful in appearance, currently looking at her with surprise.

“You are?”

She asked politely. Ning Xue didn’t remember seeing this woman before, but judging by her clothing, she should be some family’s young lady.

“Ah,” the woman patted her forehead, showing an embarrassed smile, and extended her hand toward Ning Xue. “I forgot to introduce myself. I’m Bai Ning’s friend, Xia Zhichu.”

“Ah, hello.” After hearing she was Bai Ning’s friend, Ning Xue repeatedly shook hands in response, then asked with a puzzled expression.

“Um, may I ask if there’s something you need?”

Although she didn’t know how the other person knew her, it was obvious that the other person seemed to have business with her.

“Ah, it’s nothing. I know about you from Bai Ning. She said you’re a very good girl, she likes you very much, and feels very happy being friends with you.”

Xia Zhichu smiled and said a string of words.

These words were naturally false, since she hadn’t even met Bai Ning face to face a few times, so how could she have heard these words from Bai Ning?

She said this purely to close the distance between herself and Ning Xue.

Obviously, the effect was significant. After hearing these complimentary words, Ning Xue’s cheeks flushed slightly, seeming somewhat embarrassed.

“Is, is that so?”

Ning Xue’s mind was now full of that sentence about Bai Ning liking her very much. Although she didn’t know if it was true or false, just hearing it made her very happy.

“Yes, Bai Ning often told me and Nan Zha that you’re gentle, kind, considerate, a girl very suitable for friendship. She couldn’t even imagine how happy the person who ends up with you would be.”

A string of complimentary words came from Xia Zhichu’s mouth, making Ning Xue’s face even redder.

The corner of her mouth slightly curved up. Watching Ning Xue, who was shy and somewhat flustered, Xia Zhichu felt her goal was about to be achieved.

Meeting Ning Xue this morning was completely accidental. Nan Zha had been busy with Nan Ziyue’s affairs these past two days, so she asked her to come see how Bai Ning was recovering.

As a result, when she arrived, she saw someone standing outside the hospital room. At first, she hadn’t planned to pay attention, but when she saw the face, her steps suddenly stopped.
